Direct them to Season 2, really. Everyone's character kinda just exploded in plenty of beautiful colors, leading to the improved -season- *everything.* To me, this show is just flawless.
Not only that, it’s a legitimate lesson in philosophy. A good portion of our actions and beliefs are based on our own experiences, so a good portion of our empathy literally comes from us being able to recognize the feelings one is experiencing in a certain position, even if the other person’s position and situation is different. “I help, for I have known helplessness. I am brave, for I known fear. I care, for I know what it means to be careless.” And so on and so forth.
Wander could've been complete without the Helper side of himself, even though all of the other aspects of his personality were needed beforehand... Then he was in a rush to leave and said that he was much better without that last piece... Then, when Sylvia presented the Helper to him, he recoiled from it. I have reason to believe he actually hates that part of himself. Not necessarily helping others, because that's his whole thing, but *feeling helpless*. Rarely in cartoons does the goofball character get a deeper side like that.
it used to be a lot less rare for cartoons/"kids shows" to have some decent morals to them. but in the latter years everything was dumbed down and made to cater to the slapstick side of things. It's good to see some newer cartoons finally embrace having a good story/moral/characters again.
Exactly my thoughts. He's scared to death of feeling helpless and vulnerable. I have reason to believe that before he met Sylvia, he never felt like he had a home.. but him saying "home" as she gathered him up made me think that he feels like being with her is his home. Like in a non-romantic way, she is his home. It made me tear up a bit.
OH MY GOD!!! HE SAID "HOME" HIS NAME IS WANDER! HE NEVER HAD A HOME AND FAMILY AND PEOPLE TO LOVE HIM, HE WAS HELPLESS, AND NOW SEEKS TO KEEP OTHERS FROM THAT SAME FEELING OF HELPLESSNESS *struggling for air* *dies*
*put his glasses on* His name isn't Wander. It's just how folks call him (just like they called him Tumbleweed before). We don't know he's real name. We don't know anything about him.
@@cheatseychespin2792 also is Disney fault, because, we don't had a kinda Wander's backstory. There was a theory that wander is a donkey because sometimes when he is mad he acts like a monkey. And probably hater was a human and that. And now in this day of 1st june 2024 we don't have a conclusion. Of this show.
did you realize he said "Oh, its ok! I'm a lot better without him!!!" and then he is scared when Sylvia has PastWander ready to be in Wander? He does know is his past, and he doesn't wants to remember it... i am very interested to know about his past.... WHY WOULD DISNEY NIT WANT SOY ANYMORE, WHYYY?!?
+findingbuglantis But he said "home" meaning that his home was destroyed, or something bad. He obviously had parents but they didn't have enough time to name him, or maybe he just doesn't remember his real name. After all, Sylvia is the one who actually named him.
Sally Acorn I interpreted it as meaning that Sylvia was his home. Home is where the heart is after all, and as long as Wander has Sylvia by his side, he is home.
@@DrenixWarriorKnightGenerally that line is wrong, but in this context they are all fragments of one person in need of restoration; if she had been selective about what she restored, it meant she didn't value her friend as who he is.
The fact that Wander wants to get rid of his helpful side was actually kind of intriguing. The idea that on some level he wanted to be able to let out his rage and anger, to avenge. But that the part of him that remembered fear and pain and helplessness was able to overpower that and still aid others. It makes me very intrigued about what wander might have been farther in the past.
Later on in the episode, he says that he "wouldn't want anyone to have to go through what he went through". On one hand, I really want to know more about Wander's past! But on the other hand, I am nowhere near ready for all these feels.
@@thatoneguydjdoodles we definitely have a chance. Even more so because of Disney Plus. If there’s a Wander over Yonder Movie I swear I’m gonna commit acts of terrorism on my RU-vid channel
2:10 and 2:50 made me even more curious about Wander's past. He seemed like he really didn't want to have the 'helpless' part of him again, and he looked sort of scared. Besides "The helper seeks to help because he knows what it is to be helpless" makes me wonder (no pun intended) what happened to him earlier in his life, before he met Sylvia. And when he said "that was the most important part" he looked a bit rueful. Wander really does have more to him than we thought.
Kinda reminds me of the scene in Cars 3 where Cruz talks about her first race with McQueen and how she says she didn’t “belong” with the other racers and she turned her back the first race and became a trainer. Seems like even the goofiest and sweetest cartoon characters have a tragic past.
+Emma Guldbjerg Maybe it's a Doctor Who thing? Like, his homeworld got destroyed when he was a baby and he began to roam the cosmos alone, scared, sad, and lonely. Until one day he decides to help a majestic blue kangaroo-horse thing, and from there the two bonded and became the best of friends and the greatest of teams!
+Chauntel Nauman He also has a device(his hat) that is capable of pretty much anything, a very unorthodox way of traveling, and impeccable knowledge of the universe. They are pretty much equals.
+xX “WRPBullet” Xx But Wander already helped people before he met Sylvia. (Spoilers for the episode "The Bad Hatter") Like when he stole the hat and Sylvia didn't know anything about it.
when people ask why i bother watching cartoons when they are "for kids" i show them a moment like this. where the kooky funny and well made things people put their very hearts into brings so much emotion into a small little moment. to those who say cartoons are just for kids and are not to be taken seriously. that's just fine, these moments will just be seen without you. have fun missing some of the greatest moments you will have from watching a cartoon.
+MsZigzagger As all of us, Ms.Zig, but I think it will be better to wait for more clues and hints about their past, something to make the fans wonder even more about the characters, wouldn't be that a little bit more interesting than an entire episode with their past and that's all?
Good point there. Still, it'd be nice to see glimpses of Wanders past, such as his home planet, his family, and who he was before he met Sylvia. The characters would be even more interesting if they're allowed to develop positively and we learn more about them. It makes us care for them even more. That's just my opinion, though.
I'd also like to see Wander as a tiny baby/toddler in a diaper waddling around trying to help people and using baby talk. How cute would that be??? I actually found some amazing fan art on a tumblr page that showed baby Wander with his parents and siblings (fanon of course).
With heart-touching moments like Wander’s helper personality, I still can’t wrap my head around why Disney would cancel this amazing and under-appreciated gem. So, my fellow fans, I’ll say this again: #SAVEWOY
There's something incredibly inspiring and endearing about people still saying #SAVEWOY, even after 7 years. It makes me think that, if there are enough people who remember and love something, then maybe it won't just be another one of those things lost to the flow of time.
@@carnage0685, well, it’s not like that. I’ve been waiting since 2016 for a third season of WOY. It ended way too soon and I’ve been waiting forEVER for Disney to announce a third season for the show.
Fun fact: It's hinted that "Wander" isn't his real name. He got that nickname from Sylvia from the time she called him a "wandering weirdo." One time, he even went by the name "Tumbleweed."
I think that's so interesting! I wish we'd find out more, but it doesn't seem like we're gonna get anything anytime soon, or at all. Also! Another interesting thing about the character is that I think it's implied he's immortal? Or at least can live a long time. He was there for at least two planetary conjunctions, which would make him 1200 years old at least, but probably even older than that
+uberdude102 Actually, I'd say the lesson of this episode is learning to accept all aspects of a person, flaws and all. Sylvia learns that she has to accept the mischievous/contrary/constantly running off part of Wander. It's a character flaw, to be sure, and one that he could learn to improve on; but it's still a part of him, and he's her best friend. As she said, "Every part of [him] is important," and he's not complete without it. Curiously, Wander has to learn the same lesson, here. He has to accept the most vulnerable part of himself, and though he was reluctant to face it and even tried to (literally) leave it behind, once he accepted it he admitted that it was the most important part of him, because it obviously represents an important aspect of his life and is part of what shapes his core personality.
+TimeyWimeyAura Beautiful statement. If you REALLY want to get philosophical, then we can look further into why Wander was so reluctant to get Helplessness back. When people grow and develop more personality traits, most of those traits are connected to memories or experiences that help create them. "The Helper seeks to help for he knows what it is like to be Helpless." Something must have happened to Wander when he was younger where nobody was around to help him. Maybe he was abandoned; maybe his planet was destroyed and he was the only survivor; maybe he was kidnapped as a baby. Either theory could result in him seeking a kind person to help him, but nobody was there. If this is true, then Wander must have some trauma in his life that the hates to think about. But Helplessness is important in Wander's case because it taught him empathy. It taught him how refusing to help or be kind to someone can have damaging effects on you. Think of the time you had to learn a life lesson the hard way. Like you told a lie that hurt someone close to you and they never trusted you again, so you make a vow to be as honest as you can. Or maybe how making selfish choices can lead to life-shattering results, but it taught you to be selfless. The best and most important lessons are the hardest to take and - when we look back on them - the negative and pain will open up some old wounds and you wish you could just erase them from you mind forever. But if you did that, then you'd likely forget what an impact that moment had on your life and how it made you a better person. We all have done things we regret and have had painful events happen to us that we wish we could go back and change or erase, but it's like chipping away at a stone to make a statue. It may hurt in the process and there will be pain attached, but it's another way to grow as a person. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I'm not sure what happened to Wander that made him helpless, but he wouldn't be Wander we all know and love if that didn't happen. Now, I'm not saying we should be happy with pain in our lives, but as long as you focus on the lesson and less on the pain, you will continue to grow.
uberdude102 Oh, I'm sorry! Do you need help putting it back together? Seriously, though, I really hope the show has more moments like this. This is all fascinating.
I always imagined that Wander was the one who helped Sylvia and that's how they become friends. I like the idea of Sylvia finding Wander as a little defenseless toddler more
The fact that he was so terrified of getting that part of him back and that his body started functioning without that last part says a lot, perhaps he knows wanting to help is making more damage than good, or maybe he hates what motivates him to help people. Maybe he knows what motivates him to help others is not because it's good and the right thing to do, but because he's so desperately trying to fix/fill something in his past that happened because he didn't got help
Just started watching all Wander over Yonder episodes and I am very judgemental when it comes to animated series. So far this show made my days, making me laugh after so long over its humor. And after coming to this episode, I never imagined I would cry for so long. This show and Gravity Falls really uplifted my inner kid and happiness. After Disney got infested with sit-coms, I'm just glad there is still a work of art and imagination put into the studio.
Abdullah Baqir This is a story about someone's personality being split up as a means to explore a character. Too many pinkie pies is the best doppelganger story out there. They are both great.
There's no way MysteriousMrEnter is gonna turn down an admirable animation review of this! It's not only a great episode with a beautiful message at the end, but it also provides much needed depth into both of the characters. The message, which involves accepting every part of yourself (even the ones you don't like), is especially poignant for anyone who's on the autistic spectrum.
Wait.. wait! What if Helpless Wander was just a Child-Wander?! really! we dont know anything about Wander's past.. he say: "The Helper seeks to help, because he knows what it is to be helpless" and "I wouldn't want someone else to go through what I went through"does it mean that something horrible happend with Wander in his childhood? And this is why he is so helply..
+Amelia O'Harra That's quite a huge possibility, even from before, Wander is always ready to help others, and feels stress when he can't do anything, like he feels betraying that little part of himself... Until now, we must wait for more episodes to come and discover more about Wander and even Sylvia as well, and their quite unique story together.
The not going through what I went through part referred to the happenings in this episode, I guess. He doesn't want anyone else to be split up into thousand parts of his personality and nearly dying from it. :) But still I'm very interested in Wanders past and I am impressed (not really though, McCracken & Co. are awesome) how deep the mostly easy and lighthearted show can go. And it's also "weird" how it causes Wander to freak out (The Fugitives, The Helper it was called I think). At first you just thought it's like a reflex or instinct to help that is deep infested in his body and mind, but after seeing this, you think about how much of an impact the helpless Wander part has in Wanders life. If he can cause such physical and psychological stress! I love how much thoughts the show can give you in a few seconds that also let you think back to earlier episodes and how they could be connected to this! :D ♥
you know why he doesn't want little wander back in because he don't want to remember his past because his past was heartbroken and he use to a home and family but until his home was destroyed when he met sylvia they became friend and travel together in the whole galaxy wander feel like sylvia was his home and the whole galaxy who care about him truly was his family
This episode has set so many inspirations to me that I'm following them now. Not much people are selfless anymore. It only seem like people help others in the middle of a crisis, but people should be together all the time.
Dammit, I'm crying! Need! Backstory! Answers! Why can't the 28th come any sooner! I can't bear another 2 weeks in between episodes after this FEELS Storm!
+HorakhtytheCreator Craig McCracken confirmed that there would be no backstory this season, probably something here and there but not a full backstory. But they have already planed season 3, if Disney give the show another season, we could probably see a backstory or close.
+starnebula from what hints it gives us, i make out that wander is an orphan or got lost or abandoned. screwball was a big part in wanders past, possibly even a past partner, and somehow he has angered hater a lot, and met Sylvia sometime along the way. Sylvia had rider as her past partner, and we heard about him, but judging by what syl says, she has most likely had more partners in the past. lol sorry for the paragraph, just had some ideas. did you know that dinos had big ears?? #rockfact
Craig McCracken confirmed that season 3 would have the backstory, but only if Disney let them make another season. That's why this show needs more official views and populairy, so it can ger a third season.
I wish I could walk you through it, but it's hard to explain. I think it follows the similar chord progression, but I can only recommend you listen to the original song a few more times. Trust me, it's a reprise of that theme; there is a connection.
Wait...WAIT...I GET IT! HE SAID HOME! HIS NAME IS WANDER! HE'S NEVER HAD A HOME! HE NEVER HAD PEOPLE WHO CARED ABOUT HIM, SO HE WAS HELPLESS, WASN'T HE? OMG THAT'S SO SAD!!! dies
I know this popped up until a lot of people recommended if they've been watching a lot of Disney shows but man and I was a really little kid I cried to the same multiple times it wouldn't matter if I was happy that day or not if I watched the scene I instantly start crying because I feel this same feeling whenever it helps someone else cuz I know what it means to be helpless even though a lot of the people that I help don't deserve it I helped them anyway
This episode brings me back. It was one one if the most important episodes for me. This show is still one of my favourite of all time. Also this scene also means a lot. The thing i most wanted to see when this show was still airing was to see more of Wanders backstory. Like not the real real (The wander who was on sylvia when they tried to leave did say ”Thats okay!! I’m alot better without it, Lets go go go!!” Like he was so paniced. Also that line ”If you dont exept one of us, you dont exept non of us” has stuck with me. Gosh i have so much to say about this scene. Like after like 6 years later i still wanna know more about wanders past
I think it's because it hurts to be helpless. But the tragedy is that people need that pain. Our memories of being helpless allow us to be compassionate to others. That's why the full quote of what Wander says here is "Thanks, Syl. That was the most important part."

I have two theory on why he doesn’t want the helper part of him. I think he might have trauma from being helpless or maybe there are times when even HE knows he too nice for his own good but he just can’t help it. Or maybe both.
Wander is a merry, goofy and sweet little guy. He loves helping and searching the good in people (even villains), he is patient and brave, etc, etc. However, in the Heebie Jeebies episode, we saw a trully terrified Wander 😯. He rarely showed fear along the show (example: "The Pet") 🤔 I wonder if that creepy and lonely forest was a reminder of a trauma or a painful memory from his past (Did Wander get lost? Was he running away from some danger? Was he abandon by his family? Is he the only one left from his specie??) 😳. It hurts the fact we never got an episode focused on Wander's past.
It's kind of sad Wander's afraid of his helplessness, but it's touching that even though it seems to be the smallest, it's the the biggest reason why he helps others in the first place.
"the helper seeks to help, because he knows what it is to be helpless" EXCUSE ME WHILE MY HEART BREAKS INTO TEN THOUSAND PEICES THAT IS JUST FUCKING SAD NOO also why is wanders help part so small and cute Xd
