The comparison to quantum computing, while I imagine is familiar to your Dr. Ackley, helped me realize that maybe a theory of computation focusing on robustness would not yield faster 3D graphics and faster spreadsheets, but like quantum computing the "robust-first" approach would lend itself to applications in which "hardware determinism" is outperformed. As of now, are you aware of any "Shor's Algorithm" or "killer app" with the robust-first approach, other than the immense potential for security generally? Wow, the cell membrane thing @7:46 blew me away. I did a lot of research into implementing some kind of space allocation thing with ULAM, and I got to something but I had to move on when I realized it couldn't actually contain anything due to how the logic worked out. The fact that you were able to get a mobile membrane with empty space inside has re-kindle my interest in this again; I'll have to read the paper.
