My MiSTer is now installed in my Arcade 1UP Street Fighter cabinet. Working well so far, just need to get the on/off switch wired into the power cable. The resolution via HDMI is 720p, which means 4:3 cores appear far too narrow on screen, but changing the core to 16:9 makes them look better on the 5:4 screen... I just wish I could set the HDMI resolution!

I just got a DE10 Nano and an IO Board. I still need to get a usb hub, and a controller which will probably be the 8 button usb Genesis controller. As well as a VGA to Component cable so I can play it on my CRT. Mainly got it as an entry point to SuperGrafx/PC Engine since it was going to be a lot more money to get a SuperGrafx and an SSDS3. Hearing that the TBGX 16 Core is nearly or about perfect at this point with CD support made me feel MiSTer was a better choice. I will probably get the 128MB SDRam board later down the road since Neo Geo support is awesome and the Amiga was always something I wanted to try out.

@@Madlittlepixel I got the controller and everything I needed to get it up and running on my crt and it worked perfectly. I can't tell if there's any input lag with the controller at all which is a good thing. There isn't any CD iso support there on the tg16 core yet so I probably heard wrong on that. I know its in development though so it will more then likely be added in the future.

Hey LOVE your channel! You always have some of the best retro gaming info. So I just ordered a Mister and I'm going to use it primarily for Neo Geo. I also ordered the Neo Geo X dock and I was thinking of ways I would be able to fit that thing in there with proper ventilation and make it look elegant. The same thing you brought up in this video, have you gotten very far with that? Anyway, I have an idea and this is what I came up with: I'm going to order an empty AES cartridge shell, then put the Mister in there. I've always had an issue with the mini systems like the classic SNES and Sega Genesis because they don't have a cartridge on top. The cart just really completes the look. And since it's so big, there's a lot of space to work with. Heck, you can even put another fan in there. I may have to cut an inch or two from the bottom as I know that dock X door is fake. I just haven't decided how to connect it yet. But I think I can make it work as a port, I have some PCB boards lying around. My goal is to have it look nice and clean, just plug in the fake cartridge/Mister and get power and peripherals. The dock is still pretty cool, so I may still use it as storage for the Neo CD controllers (but I know it's quite cramped so it may not fit). Anyway, I'd like to hear your thoughts, once again, great stuff man, keep up the good work!

I'm wanting to play some arcade games and don't want to hassle with downloading MAME on my computer and just might buy one of these to have a crap ton of classic gaming consoles and computers all in one. I ordered a Retro USB AVS the other day it came today and I'm playing NES games on the Everdrive N8 right now and love the machine. I own original games for all my retro systems but got into flash carts mainly for convenience. I'll wait for the price of the Mister to come down right now it and the components are out of my price range.

Well, even the poorest and cheapest retro gamer who has nothing and not a dollar to his name can see the incredible value you get for the MiSter. The product is obviously not intended for you. I would be curious to know what you think is a good value for playing retro games. Even if you are fine with emulation, only a decent computer can get rid of the latency using RetroArch and certain options... and that is only on certain cores.

VADER GAMER he did in the links in the description of the video. You first need to get the DE-10 Nano kit, the mini usb hub and also the ram. Hooked together with a usb controller and an Sd card you can add roms and your off to the races. The IO board is optional, but recommended. It gives you a few additional options like easy reset and power buttons, a fan, VGA out so you can use CRT and monitors. Then you just add on what you want from there. You’ll have to Do lots of research as it’s a bit of a rabbit hole but a fun one. You don’t need to be incredibly tech Saavy either.

It's all relative. All-in it can get pretty expensive, but, when you factor in it runs ALL Neo Geo, TurboGrafx, SNES, Megadrive, etc, etc, old computers and arcade cores, honestly, I think it's incredible value for money. The de-10 nano itself should be selling at 4 times what it can be purchased if not for Intel subsidising.
@Jucelegario
@Jucelegario 5 лет назад
I emulate old NES games at 4k on my Pc and accuracy is almost, if not, perfect and while for other consoles it probably won't be 100% accurate in the near future, I would love to get into the mister but the DE-10 Nano FPGA tops at 1080p, which isn't bad but now that I have a 4k tv and I have tasted the ultra sharp pixels, I don't want to go back lol Any word on a future fpga chip capable of 4k? Will the already written cores for the DE-10 Nano FPGA work on future fpga upgraded chipsets from the same company? I don't mind paying $300 for an fpga chip capable of doing what the mister is currently doing but at 4k.
@user-rd5wj2mm8n
@user-rd5wj2mm8n 5 лет назад
@@Jucelegario I'm far from an expert with how FPGA chips work. I think however it's very unlikely 4k is possible, least on the de10 nano board. Software emulation is great as it was for me for the longest time. Got TONS of use out of my Pi3 and I recently just got a Pi4 (4gb) variant. However. Once I sampled MiSTer, basic board and 32ram, I couldn't then go back to Pi emulation. 1080p of MiSTer is no 4k but still plenty sharp and more importantly for me is the lack of input latency. Even for a 'casual' such as myself I noticed I could beat sections on games once again I had struggled with when using Pi3 previously. Everything just feels so immediate.
@Jucelegario
@Jucelegario 5 лет назад
@@user-rd5wj2mm8n man, if you are young or if you only tasted emulation before touching the real consoles, YOU ARE MISSING THE FEELING, its not the same thing, it doesn't feel the same, you don't get the same impact. A system emulated at 68%, 75% accuracy vs one emulated at 99 or 100% or the real deal, is a world of difference, its hard to explain but this is real. This happened to me when I first emulated a console, I tried playing a game I knew back and forth from the 90s and it didn't feel the same and I couldn't understand why because at first glance you can't see it. At the same time, the best way to get this feeling is with the mister, which is what you just told me you are into.

@@MrMassivemanmeat I haven't seen any video from any youtuber saying they ran into artifacts with the mister. I don't think the latest pi version is strong enough to emulate retro games up to the dreamcast with high accuracy and without problems. By the way, why would you like CRT effects on your LCD? I lived through the CRT 80s era too and I didn't get the nostalgia for the scanlines which I know were there but I knew it was a tv thing and games could look better with other technology. LCD, Oled, those are the best representations old consoles can get, like they were intended to. You are like asking for a Betamax look on movies shot on film, which have a native resolution of 6k on average and some, maybe a little more.

or maybe I misunderstood you. Why would you like the nostalgia effect of using a CRT? lol LCD is way fking better and a "truer" representation of old games. Scalines were a limitation of tvs of the time. I did read somewhere that 720p and 4k integer scaling is pixel form correct for 2d old consoles and not 1080p. But yes, of course ticking the integer scaling option while playing at 240p for a console that originally output that is correct and the same goes to playing lets say ps1 at 480i and ticking the integer scaling box for it too.
