This song... God, its beautiful. I'm a Marine, who served in Fallujah, Iraq, as well as Afghanistan. I lost a lot of brothers. People can never see what we have. And I thank God above for that. When my wife asked about my PTSD, trying to understand, I just played for her this song. When it was done, she just looked at me in tears, and it helped her grasp that it isn't just being sad. We all lose something when we deploy. And we can never let go of what we've been through. But the military is a family. And even if we don't know each other, we love each other.

Hunter, may I just say that my husband also has PTSD but his is not combat related, and I still struggle to understand. It is very hard to deal with and has changed our lives, not for the better, I might add. May God bless you and your family this Christmas and throughout the years to come. Love and blessings from Australia.

16 years for me and I still have my moments. I have to work night shifts as working days regularly is uncomfortable and abnormal for me. Loud noises and explosions do not affect me still to this day. This song is almost a perfect rendition of myself and many of my friends from the desert.

I am taking the liberty of sharing a friends story. I know George would not mind. He has been my dentist for 18 years and became a good friend. He is now 72 and stills walks like a soldier. I knew he was in Vietnam in the early years and that he was a pilot shot down behind enemy lines and survived on his own for two weeks. He was not the one that told me that. His office is on the second floor with big windows. I would think, WOW he is waiting for me. This last visit, I asked him if I could ask him a few questions and he said sure. My first question was what are you looking at out the window? His reply "the fighter planes". My second question was do you often think of Vietnam? His reply "every day". God bless him and all of our service men and women.

I hear rotor blades and engines and I'm right back in Bosnia. A lot of folks don't know a lot about what happened over there... it was a news blip a couple of times, but they never really tell people what was going on. They boil it down to ethnic cleansing, but it was a whole lot more than that for my Army Company and I. I am there every single day...

I served as a medic and combat advisor. Baqubah Fob warhorse november 05 to november 06 and mosul marez/diamondback november 2007 to February 2009. I hear alot of things when I close my eyes. I hear the screams of our men. I hear the desperate cries of full grown men screaming for doc. Pleading with me to save our brother who is already gone. I hear the snap of bullets cracking over my head. Every night when I close my eyes I relive both tours. My body came home, but so much of me I fear, will never return.

"You can take the kid out of the military, but you can't take the military out of the kid." Sometimes that's a good thing. In the worst of cases, it's not. Welcome Home, elder Brother. To a Vietnam veteran, your courage is a testament to the resilience and strength that define you. You answered the call of duty in a time of uncertainty and faced challenges that many will never fully comprehend. Know that your bravery and sacrifice have not been forgotten. You are a symbol of endurance and honor. Continue to hold your head high, knowing that the grit and determination you showed then are still within you now. Your service was not in vain, and your legacy of courage will forever inspire those who follow.

I wish my Daddy was here to hear this beautiful song. At 17 he enlisted in the Army to go fight in WWII. He went on to become a career Air Force pilot after college on the GI Bill. He served in Korea and Vietnam. I think dropping bombs as a B52 pilot haunted him. I know the affects of those 3 wars stayed with him for the rest of his life and had a huge impact on his poor relationship with my brother. He left us in early 2020 at the age of 96, I miss him every day.

I cried the first few times hearing this, and kept coming back to it. It haunted me for a while. My Daddy is a Marine, and my sweetheart is an Army Veteran. I finally found what God intended for me to hear... it's the last verse. Don't you know the American Soldier will always win the war...

Still hands down one of the all-time greatest songs I've ever heard. Never fails to hit like a truck right in the feels. I am a US Soldier and combat vet that just left active duty and am now trapped in this miserable civilian existence 95% of the time. No they never taught me to take it off, but i don't think I ever really want to. When I was wearing that uniform was the only time in my life that I was something. Without it is nothing but hate and whiskey. Never should have taken it off while I still had a breath in me.

bro, I appreciate this. Given that you said you were chinese I am assuming you live in China, and it just seems so weird nowadays for foreigners who don't have direct contact with US military to not despise them. Every soldier sent into combat is like Jesus in a way. They came from a good place and go to a bad one, to protect people they don't know and risk and sometimes die for them. There is nothing we can do to repay them for that We all thank God for all our soldiers.

I have spoken with a few men that served and your words could not be any more truer, we have to do better for our servicemen and women of war, in helping them once they return to help them past a battle / a fight that truly does not leave but returns at times like a thief in the night, robbing them of Peace that they so deserve... My prayers is that we remember you all in our prayers, and get our communities to bring such awareness for you that somehow / in someway we can have a place for all to go for support when they are battling the Battle of the Bale Out of The Red, White and Blue... God Speed and God be with you all...

To all you heroes reading this thank you for service. If any of y'all ever need to talk I am here I won't lie and say I understand. No civilian can ever say they truly do. My daddy served from the day he turned 18 until cancer took him from us.

Thanks to ALL American soldiers that are suffering from a wound or PTSD from battle. My Dad left to Afghanistan 5 years ago and when he came back, he was not the same. I know what its like to go through it. You have the power and strength to push through. We Love You! :)

As an exserviceman (not american) I can still identify with this song. Not only marines served. Many countries supported, and still support you. I can't forget my uniform and the days I wore it with pride.

As a mother of a 68 Whiskey who will deploy soon for the first time and a son who sign his contract soon this made my heart fill with pride but so heavy at the same time. Much love to every single man and woman who put that uniform on. 🇺🇸❤💙

The uniform will never completely come off,it became part of your life.I am extremely sorry for your pain,please seek help,i know its not easy but baby steps will make you feel a little better.Sometimes surrounding yourself with other vets helps,or at least it did for my ex fiancé..Thank you for your services and may God bless you.

WHY is this not getting any recognition?
@madmaxxa8994
@madmaxxa8994 9 лет назад
because most people just dont care anymore, its truly sad
@bloodnsteel26
@bloodnsteel26 9 лет назад
because people refuse to believe that this is a true and very common fact of war. Those of us that have to live with it find a reason everyday to carry on. I have 2 kids and a wife that supports me through it all and that is the strength everyone of us need
