Good clip...Our ZK 2017 outlander CVT just crapped its pants after only 83000km..Dealership doesn't know why and said it's a sealed unit that needs to be replaced as a complete unit and will take 5 weeks as there are no transmissions in Aus.Thankfully covered by warranty...I'm abit concerned about the longevity of CVT'S as our vehicle has always had it's servicing done on time at the dealer...How often should CVT's get serviced?????
@YepThatsIt
@YepThatsIt 4 года назад
hi, on conventional transmissions i recommend a filter service ( remove trans pan, replace filter, clen trans pan and magnets not just fluid change ) every 50,000km when trans has done under 200,000km and then every 30,000km to get max efficiency, reliability and life out of your trans. on cvt, dsg, dct transmissions i recommend every 30,000km and every second service to remove the cover and clean any magnets present as well. cvt, dsg and dct transmissions create alot of fine metallic debris that will cause premature issues ( as you have experienced ) once enough of that muck naturally created, contaminates the solenoids. cheers
@deanwhitaker67
@deanwhitaker67 3 года назад
Many thanks for your explanation especially regarding metallic fragments within the CVT Valve body which now explains the Engine / Fault codes regarding the Primary Pressure Solenoid Valve and Inhibitor Selector Switch. On servicing my CJ 2008 VRX I found metallic fines around the magnet. The car has been driven with the engine fault light on for some 12 - 18 mths with no apparent issues. Do you think if I remove and clean the solenoid coils the codes may disappear ? BR Dean

My vehicle Mitsubishi Outlander 2011 2.4 HAS BEEN GIVING lot of trouble. Like vehicle is not moving immediately after acceleration.. If I stop n start the engine it moves and again if I slow down issue repeats. Engine check light is on.. My mechanic told coolant and transmission oil mixed hence he changed oil filter, oiler cooler, cooling tank , engine oil, transmission fluid and coolant.. Still issues remains same . Faults code says Secondary solenoid value pressure.. Pls guide me what to do ??

Just to let other fellow owners know, Mitsubishi recommends to change the transmission fluid AND transfer case fluid every 30k miles (48k kilometers), this goes for the CVT on the 4 cylinders and the 6 speed on the V6 With these cars weaker transmissions, make sure you keep up if you want it to last!
@YepThatsIt

hi, i recommend while trans has done less than 200,000km to do a filter service every 50,000km, then once has done over 200km to do a proper filter service every 25,000km and from start add more magnets. cheers

Hi, thanks for your descriptive video, I have done the service as explained and changed both filters. The problem is that the car is not shifting the second gear automatically after the service. The rpm continue to increase while I'm speeding up. I need to remove my leg from the fuel pedal so it will shift (the rpm will drop) and I can accelerate afterwards. The rest of shifts are okay. Any ideas is pretty much appreciated.

In another comment you mentioned bypassing the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger on my mitsubishi asx leaked trans fluid into the coolant. Is the solution to just replace both fluids/filters and disconnect the heat exchanger from the cooling system or do I need to replace the heat exchanger?
@YepThatsIt

I'm a little confused, metal shavings are normal for these CVT Transmissions? The mechanic doesn't seem too concerned about metal being in the fluid. I'm old school and metal in any fluid usually means big trouble..So this is normal?

Is there a software update for this CVT? I think my CVT is choosing a much higher "gear" than it should going up hill. As soon as I accelerate up hill it's as if the car chokes. I wanted to see what gear i'm on, so I shift it to Tiptronic mode (doing 40kmh) and the gear shows number 4! Car has done 170,000km and I suspect the tranny hasn't been serviced much if any. My Outlander is experiencing similiar issues, although in my case the transmission cooler has failed leading to the coolant and trans fluid mixing. Wondering if the trans is damaged or if I can just do a flush.
@YepThatsIt
@YepThatsIt Год назад
hi, filter service is a maintenance thing, it wont fix anything unless the fluid level was wrong or fluid properties were very diminished from heat etc. if coolant has entered trans, depends on how long was there for? often the coolant absorbs into clutch linings and affects the friction capability and/or cause the linings to peel away. if trans has low mileage its worth fitting a bypass cooler asap and maybe if you get it quick enough -flushing fluid a few times ( see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1paq5RbiTNQ.html ) the problem is that often you only realize coolant has been in there too late, so choice is your to make. if helps cheers for beers link is in description

@YepThatsIt

hi, initially you need to warm up the transmission over 80degC if it has a flow valve if you have replaced the cooler line filter inorder to purge any air out. otherwise check at operating temp with engine running. cheers

Did you resolve the low power issue on this car? Possible that the ecu is torque limiting the engine to try and save the transmission. Does your scan tool read the tcu data correctly? I tried a few but only the genuine dealer MUT-III software would read it. There’s also some android software called cvtz50 that will read the tcu but it wouldn’t work on my 2007 outlander.
@YepThatsIt
@YepThatsIt 5 лет назад
hi, i have a few scanners, usually one will get codes that others won`t. and after all that, it is always better to bench test solenoids and sensors for resistance and leaking when they are heated up. scanners won`t pick up on leaking solenoids, they only record electrical readings outside of parameters set inside ecu. basically a code will only tell you there is a fault, it won`t show you exactly where or what the fault is ( this is why many mechanics hate auto transmission ). faults can be anywhere from the ecu to the wiring, to the connections, and finally to the sensors/solenoids etc. if you need to replace one solenoid, it is always best to test them all or as many as you can, while you are working in that area. valve bodies can also wear out. hope that makes sense cheers

Loved your video mate, this is something I want to do on my 2007 2.4 outlander before I take it to a specialist. 3 months ago it developed a whine that is directly related to the speed it travels at. The higher the speed the higher the pitch and wine. The lower the speed the lower the whine and gets softer. It doesn't fluctuate with engine revs. Almost like a diff whine, I don't know. She has high Km's and the transmission specialists did a service about 4 years ago which is just over 40 000 so I know now by your video that she is overdue. I hope a recon box can be done but I don't know who to see on the Gold Coast mate. Any ideas?

@YepThatsIt

hi, not sure of exact torque setting after so many years i just do them up by hand. i would say max 120inch pound. pattern wont matter so much on trans pan,just do up evenly. on valvebody ismore important to get pattern to tension it down evenly. cheers
