When they cut back into the live room at 2.21 is probably some of the best sounding drums I've ever heard!!

It appears as if he's checking levels L & R where he has basically lapel mics in each ear which he wears via a band on his head, vs. using the Dummy head that you see a little later for Binaural recording.. That's my take anyway.
