Welcome! I’ve created this special, Mixed Media Collage Lesson just for you!
I am honored to be featured in the beautiful Somerset Studios Winter 2020 issue! To celebrate, I want to share this FREE mixed media collage lesson creating the piece that is featured on this issue’s cover!
It conjured up powerful, fiery imagery in my mind. I decided to do a mixed media collage and play with creating an image that conveyed my emotion.
Collage is such a fantastic way to hone your design and composition skills so enjoy moving around the different elements and composing something that speaks to you! I speak at length about this in the lesson.

This is definitely one of the best art videos I've seen. I found it to be so exciting to watch the whole process and see the end result. The finishing touches to her face, etc, really added that extra special effect and brought the whole piece together beautifully. Loved it. 😀

Dear Ivy, you gave me the answer to my big question: why why why do I always refrain from sitting down and just let go for a moment of creativity although I know I can do it, although I am burning to do so, although sometimes it even hurts... you said it and I finally understood: IT IS JUST A LACK OF TRUST and this lack of trust is spreading over on a big part of my daily routine.... This is the most beautiful Mixed Media i have seen. I have wanted to do Mixed Media for years but when trying to find inspiration I just see very very busy mixed media with (for me) way too much going on. I didn't know how to keep it clean and minimal but still make it look purposeful and amazing. You showed me it can be done! Amazing job.

I had a lazy day and came upon your videos here... This is very encouraging as I have been working with image transfer and collage without knowing really how to meld it all together. I have a piece that is just sitting in my studio unfinished since December. I just set it aside as I felt I needed practice elsewhere to finish it, and that is true. These videos are so helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and techniques! Really nice piece you have done here... it has a collage feel and I love the incorporated painterly effect, as you said. Much more where I want to go with collage. It has a tiny art deco feel too, which I also like. Thank you. I will look for your classes on more of this!

Ivy Newport I enjoyed your technique working with pictures and napkins and paints yes patience is definitely needed but we'll worth it as your joy is obviously showing in finish artwork for your journal page. This gave me permission to put the focal point in place and build around it. I had been doing a background, then layers . . . then trying to put a focal point in place. That has worked but I want to try the way you did it as well.

There are times it's challenging to watch another Artist, as there are areas we see and want to make it to our eye's desire. (Her right cheek at chin are, left from our view, I just wanted to shade it to give a more symmetrical feel), and her shift, I wanted to expand the sides just a bit ... Typical me, lol. The focus point of the message of flame was excellent and would make for a truly beautiful painting on canvas.

Ok...I think this is a beatiful piece of art. You had fun doing it, (that's the whole point , yes) and, we had fun watching. Now, to my questions. The red dots in her hair, and, the copper dots above the moth, on her neck....What are those about? I kept waiting for you to smudge them, or somehow blend them into their surroundings. I'm sorry. I really won't mean to sound critical. I'm new to collage, and more specifically, painting, so, who am I to judge? But, I kept saying to my tablet, (what, so maybe you'd hear me?☺️) Don't forget the dots. So, there's my question. If I don't ask, I don't learn, right? ...I did learn a lot from this. I might just glue something down, and add some color to it. (I hope she doesn't end up looking like a hooker!😊)
