I stand corrected. I worked it out using both whole and quarter pounds and the answer is 40# for both.

Why at examples no.1 and no. 3 you dont combine the total amount and total money? I combined it but it gave me a negative and different answer. Are there an exceptions about that? It really confuses me a lot.

The right side of the equal sign should be 10(5.2)X+20
@northerneclipse9021

Great video. I think there may be an error for the final answer for problem 3. You stated 40 pounds needs to be mixed in to get a mixture at $1.30/pound. That would be true if we were dealing with whole pounds. We're dealing with 1/4 pounds. So you need to divide 40 by 4 giving us 10 pounds that should be mixed in. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@FortBendTutoring
@FortBendTutoring 8 лет назад
Thanks 4 watching David! The units of measurement were already adjusted when we found the cost per pound. Your variable remains as the amount needed to create a price per pound that is $5.20 which is equivalent to $1.30 per quarter pound. Therefore, you don't need to divide by 4.

I'm not catching the reasoning for when the last cell in the price column is needed or not needed. Any insight?
@FortBendTutoring

+Calvin It truly depends on the problem. In most situations, you can calculate the value regardless if I use it or not. I’m just using my experience to be lazy. You can learn how to be efficient from that, but just continue checking out my word problems with tables to find the pattern.

+Kaydean Harmon If you're referring to eliminating a decimal from an equation, multiply by 10.

Can anyone tell why the worth of dimes is .1 and worth of nickels is .5?
@FortBendTutoring
@FortBendTutoring 3 года назад
Hello Elma! A dime is worth 10% of a dollar or 10 out of 100 cents of a dollar. Converting 10% into decimal notation or dividing 10 by 100 gives you 0.1 for the dime’s worth. Likewise, a nickel is 5% of a dollar or 5 out of 100 cents of a dollar. Either description converts into 0.05 for the worth of a nickel in dollars.
@guavapastries2727
@guavapastries2727 5 лет назад
why don't we multiply the (21-x) by 100?
@FortBendTutoring

It was already multiplied with the decimal.
