*PLEASE NOTE, I DO MENTION THIS TT WILL BE UP FOR SALE IN THE NEAR FUTURE BUT THIS ALL DEPENDS ON MK7.5 GTI PERFORMANCE PRICES WHICH ARE CURRENTLY HIGHER THAN THEY WERE WHEN WE BOUGHT THE TT MAKING THE COST TO CHANGE TOO HIGH SO NO PLANS AS YET*
In this REAL WORLD, UNSPONSORED video I give you a full and frank summary of the costs of running a 210 PS second generation Audi TT Coupe with S tronic automatic transmission and 'quattro' all wheel drive. Due to the nature of the motoring media, it's uncommon for long term reports of this length to be published, particularly on older cars. However this used to be my favorite part of specialist car magazines like the late Audi Driver and VW Driver magazines and therefore I hope it's therefore of interest and use to you guys who like me live in the real world of trying to buy good value older cars.
Apologies for saying "shitty" in this video, I try and avoid bloody swearing and it's right pissed me off that I didn't edit that bugger out. Sorry.
This video can be divided into the following chapters;
00:00 Quick preview
00:10 Introduction
01:47 Insurance costs
02:46 Fuel consumption
03:53 Depreciation
05:11 What's gone wrong

I have a 2010 TDI quattro. For me the diesel powered unit suits the car really well. 50mpg regularly, great low down torque, stage 1 chipped to 210bhp and the AWD system is great for our Scottish winters. Had a full Haldex plus filters service. The car is a weekend car but is a great daily driver too. The smaller 17” alloy wheels suit a more comfortable ride.

I have exactly the same car, TDi, same year, and also a Stage 1 Dyno tune. Mine is silver. 140k on the clock and still runs like new. Not a squeak or a rattle anywhere. Nothing broken (touch wood). The interior and leather upholstery and carpets is like brand new. I have changed the interior lights to LED’s ( much brighter when you open the door), changed headlights to Bi-Xenon, added a concealed rear camera a new 9” head unit with awesome Sat Nav with wireless Apple CarPlay & Android - built in sim so no phone needed for Apple Maps Sat Nav. Kids watch TV and RU-vid. Stereo is Awesome. And I have fitted an aftermarket lift up lid matching leather top cubby bin between the two front seats. Good for sunglasses and bits and bobs. Can lean on while driving which is great. I love car so much I will never sell it. ❤

Thanks for the review, I bought a 2009 Quattro Tdi in 2019, with 67k on it, with full service history, I had a full + Haldex service in 2020 at a cost of almost £1000 by an independent (think it was a bit too much, tbh) to be honest the car doesn't do a lot of mileage as it's now only done a little over 75k, as I don't drive every day any more. Insurance at £426 Fully Comp, I feel is a bit steep considering I'm late 50's early 60's with full NCD , it gets a service with MOT once a year, nothing serious in my ownership has gone wrong (touch wood 🙂) only needing a front drop link replacing 2 years ago, even driving briskly it'll return late 30's to 40's mpg. I absolutely love the car, it's comfortable on a long drive, quick enough for a bit of brisk over taking, handles pretty nicely, down the lanes, although it doesn't much like the pot holes we have down here in the South, even on the standard 17's, it's a bit crashy, the real-ish issue was the normal rear light earth problems, which I fixed with some extra earth leads to a near by earth point after watching a YT video, no more real light issues after 2 years. Overall I'd highly recommend a Tdi TT, even over the 225 Mk1 TT Quattro I had previously, which drank petrol at an alarming rate driven across Europe and back, also the cost of taxing it was over £300 at the time, and on these $hite roads we are forced to drive on I feel is too expensive when my Mk2 Tdi is now just £155 p.a. I'm going to be keeping this little beauty for the foreseeable. 👍

I disagree about the value of Quattro, I had a mk1 A5 2wd 211bhp and you couldn’t put your foot down in the wet, wheel spin pulling away and torque steer when overtaking. I’ve now got a mk2 252bhp Quattro and its on another level.

I've had my 2013 mk 2 quattro TT 4 1/2 years it's awesome,I got it with 34,000 on the clock,it's now done just over 50,000,milage around 49 mpg it's 0-60 7-2 sec it's cheap to insure and run,only faults are brakes and a bearing which is wear at tear,I also had to get earth wire at back fixed which is a common fault with them, service is cheap I can't fault it,where else are you going too get a 2 door sports car,rear seats were put in by Audi to cut insurance down,running costs are not dear,never go to main audi dealers as to expensive ide rather go to garage I trust,mines is serviced every year, awesome car,

I have found that keeping an ageing VW has become expensive. My 2008 MKV Gti has cost me lots of Aussie dollars. It has 90,000 kms on the clock. Over two years VW maintenance and repair at a dealer $10k. Lots went wrong and costly to fix. Dealer mechanic charge like wounded bulls. It had new tyres November 2022 again $1k. I still own it. But it hurt my wallet. A lot. Cheers.

Great video, my wife bought her 2nd mk2 TT just last year. She previously owned 2006 mk2 TT TFSI front wheel drive manual in Garnet Red for 5yrs. We purchased for 6k with 68k miles & sold for 4k with 98k miles. No major issues, except rear taillight bad earth fault (fixed myself) & drivers window regulator. Her new mk2 is a 2016 black edition TFSI front wheel drive manual in Samoa Orange with amplified pack (RS spoiler etc) & just done 33k miles & we really love. There is one thing, the clutch bite point is low (no slipping) at just around 2-3 inches before engaging, so this maybe a big bill sometime soon. I didn't realise about the tyre foam expiry dates, seems high price for an Audi one, wouldn't a generic tyre weld foam in a can do the same job?

Thanks for the video Andrew. Very relevant as you’ll remember me purchasing an exact same model (in Red) from you in Nov ‘21. Have done around 9k in that time and the car has been ‘almost’ faultless (I had the problem with rear lights blowing due to Earth connections - a common problem I believe). Just regular servicing has kept everything tip-top. I can obtain high 30’s mpg - but that really is steady motorway driving. Very impressed with car overall though and it still looks great among newer stuff on the roads. 👍

Hope the next car isn’t losing fun for practicality as the RS6 shows you can have both :) albeit not necessarily cheaply but life’s too short to drive appliances 😂🎉

My 2012 golf GTD had the same brake squeal and burnt smell in this cold spell. And the pad had dislodged slightly out of position after being on for 2 years. The pad had worn down to the bare metal. So replaced the pad and could hear the brake grinding for a few hundred miles because it was squaring the disc wear back up ( in hindsight we should've squared the wear up slightly before putting the pad on) but fine now. Didn't fit the anti rattle shim this time as it's extremely tight for some reason and may have contributed to forcing the pad out of position. A set of brembo pads £18 🤣 for the rear. (Brembos all round), the passenger side still had plenty of meat on pad and didn't have the squeal but have replaced anyway

A good video - like you said, it's very rare to see long term reviews on older cars. I wouldn't disagree about the paint finish on Mk7/7.5 Golfs! My 7.5 R estate in lapiz blue (how predictable 🤣) seems to have picked up quite a few marks (at least one of which is due to seagulls - my work car park is bad for that), definitely could do with a machine polish & ceramic coating, I think. My old Night Blue Mk7 GTD seemed to have better quality paint. Haldex issues are definitely something I'm aware of too - think my R is due a Haldex oil change this year (20 plate), won't skimp on that.

Audi warranty worthless unless your engine blows (I have bad experience of owning a used approved Audi S3, never again). 4 wheel drive rear diff for S3 is £7000 from Audi. 10:00 In terms of servicing in theory a timing chain is better, but VAG don't have the greatest of reputations with this series of engines and the quality of the timing chain components. Am I right in thinking the TTS continued to use a timing belt beyond 2011?
@volkswizard
@volkswizard Год назад
Yep Mk2 TTS was always EA113 as there was no high output EA888 available until 2013 for 8V S3 (and then Golf R). Scirocco R continued to use EA113 until it was deleted in around 2018. No timing belt and far better mpg make an EA888 a much easier engine to live with unless you have to pay £1000+ for a new coolant/thermostat module of course on a Gen 4 EA888.

I think Black Edition bits work really well with silver, don't think every Mk2 TT wears it so well.

@@volkswizard I think the facelift mk2 TT in s line or black edition look very good, mines the facelift s line in silver. Pre facelift or sport model doesn’t look as good imho

Good spot sir! Having been into Birmingham today I can see why a 30 mph average is so telling :)

The Quattro is not primarily intended for bad weather driving, its to keep the S line, TTS and TT RS on the road due to the higher performance. Do you want a TTS with FWD?🙄
@volkswizard
@volkswizard 10 месяцев назад
My GTI Clubsport S has more power than a TTS and just front wheel drive so probably asking the wrong person 😆

Timeless looks that model IMO. Hmmmm, comments therein and comments here..... Got me thinking about longer term reliability on my MY19 7.5 Golf R....🤔😬
@volkswizard
@volkswizard Год назад
7.5R is OK but 2 inherent issues, coolant leak and Haldex - all manageable if you don't pay main dealer rates - there is something very wrong about paying their inflated rates to fix things that shouldn't have gone wrong. Better add clutches to that on the manuals too. £2500 there easy.

@@volkswizard many, many thanks Andrew. Thankfully I have a local, independent mechanic. German chap, in his 70s now. Mercedes Benz apprenticeship in his youth back home. Just does Merc, BMW and VAG. Workshop resembles F1 pit garage, immaculate, nothing out of place. Anyhow nothing beats experience. 👍

Well it's still here and no rush to shift it on. I have to see things from the normal person's perspective (i.e. my wife's) and a TT is a much more desirable car than even a Mk7.5 Golf GTI because a) it's an Audi and b) it's a handsome sleek coupe. On that basis it's not going anywhere :)
