Hence why I knew at age 9 in little league that only position I DIDN’T wanna play was 1st base. I preferred 3rd base cause it’s about throwing, not catching and I had a good arm that I just needed to direct and channel better
I remember going to a week long MLB tryout camp at the Bucky Dent baseball school in the early 90's, and there was a Yankee scout there who would say "pick it big moose" every time I made a good scoop. That was a fun week.
Played short and 3rd in my playing days, but 1st base picks are always a pleasure to see. Especially when you're throwing to a guy with a scoop. Have so much confidence in making a throw over there, that he'll pick it. A great first baseman makes every infielder better.
My teammates say, if you are at the first base, we can throw without thinking about anything.I think It's my biggest achievement in my baseball carrier.
Imagine you're falling from a building, and someone catches you at the exact moment your feet touch the ground - but before the rest of your body makes impact. That's what a first base pick is like.
chris davis has awesome fundamentals. too bad he's in a really bad offensive slump. and the O's are stuck with him for 4 more years at 161mil. O's can't grow with that over their head
