I *love* him as an umpire. The longer he umps, the faster the development of the A.I. to replace him. Seriously, we have the tech to track the ball... we don't need to rely on the eyes/reflexes of some old man.
he makes a complete embarrassment of baseball. The one at 1:17 to Wyatt Langford doesn't even tell half the story..not even half..he called 3 in a row that were 2 feet outside. It was FAR and AWAY the worst thing I have ever seen an umpire do. He did it just for spite. If I tune in and see he is part of the game I tune right back out.
I can’t imagine showing up to work every day and everyone that you work with tells you how terrible you are at your job, but for some reason you still don’t quit.
It is actually not Hernandez's fault. He is useless. He has disengaged and lost respect of the players. He has compromised the fans enjoyment of the game. He consistently brings baseball into negativity and disrepute. Everyone knows the man has no pride or self respect as he consistently puts himself above others. He knows the damage he is doing. And he just doesn't care. It's all about Angel Hernandez and no one else matters. All he is doing is using the system because he knows he can. It's no secret. A dead ant knows all of this. However the fault is the system and it's management for allowing this to continue and not resolving the problem. For the games sake make a stand and an executive decision. Never let the man step onto a baseball field under the guise of an umpire ever again by quoting ineptitude and a failure to produce minimum required results. If he sues, so be it. If he wins, pay it. The game is far more important that this individual. Do whatever it takes to get rid of this unwanted stain on the great game of baseball...
I would trust Bernie Madoff with my life savings more than I would trust Angel Hernandez to umpire an MLB game! He could be watching the clouds pass by instead of watching for balls and strikes and the MLB won’t do anything about him…
It's a relic from a time that fans would literally attack the umpires about bad calls. Angel sucks, but some of the powers that umpires have are the result of violence.
@@CapnRiggs2k5 Thats not how it works a Union does not grant carte blanche power of protection. MLB just doesn't care enough probably because they are in the mind of any publicity is good publicity
I honestly wonder if the rest of his umpire crew ever gets tired of the drama that he causes. "Really? I have to argue with this manager because you made a crap call.... again....?"
I bet many of them are happy for the cover he gives them. "I may have made a bad call, but it won't stick with my reputation, because Angel will do so much worse."
Not that he ever cared, but in the last two year of his tenure, I'm convinced that he was intentionally bad...he lost his lawsuit-TWICE, and was dead set and taking his frustration out on the game of baseball.
Here's the thing with Angel, he does it all on PURPOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!! He knows what he's doing, he's not stupid, in fact, he's very smart. He loves to make bad calls on purpose, just to f**k with players and managers. And, by the looks of it, he's doing a great job!! I mean, the guy really likes to screw with players, if he's behind the plate he will call a ball a strike and a strike a ball. To even it out, sometimes he will make some good calls. He has to, otherwise it would be too obvious LOL!! I think he's got the record for most overturned calls at first base, and when they overturn his call he always has this goofy look on his face like "WHOOPS" did I do that?? O well, one of these days he's bound to do something so crazy that baseball will finally be able to fire his ass. Patience.
Angel Hernandez is the worst umpire ever. It's a joke that he's still employed by the MLB. Hernandez, Ron Kulpa, Greg Gibson, Hunter Wendelstedt and Will Little, among others, have no business being umpires in the MLB. But of course, Joe Torre won't do anything to improve the terrible umpiring going on right now.
MLB’s umpires union is disgusting. You should be ashamed holding players and fans hostage from Hernandez, Kulpa, Gibson and of course Wendelstedt etc. it needs to stop. Turn the tables on Hernandez with his playbook, a law suite. Stop this sham!! Quit protecting Angels flock.
Imagine a biopic on angel in like 15 years, it’s centered around his plot to infiltrate and absolutely troll the MLB for decades purely for his own enjoyment
Towards the end of the year when 2 teams who are out of the pennant race both team players should refuse to play when Angel is umping behind the plate. No game--no revenue. That will get their attention!
How did he make it through a 20 year career of not only bad calls, but being absolutely smug about it, without getting a haymaker planted across his face?
Everybody keeps scratching their heads about Angel Hernandez? Come on, you know he's on the take! Somebody's making money off of these seriously wrong calls!
I think I've figured out why Angel is so bad; calling Balls as Strikes, Strikes as Balls and everything else he's screwed up. Back in Cuba somebody gave him a very bad translation of the rules. Now he's either too stubborn or completely unwilling to acknowledge that the problem might lie with him.
And Bill Miller, and Doug Eddings, and Hunter Wendelstadt, and John Tumpane, and Chris Guccione, and Ron Kulpa and Phil Cuzzi and Mike Estabrook and DJ Rayburn and..... shall I go on?
Has there ever been an umpire even remotely close to how bad Angel Hernandez was? Thank heavens he has finally retired, but MLB needs to use much better judgement in the future!
If a good ump decides to place a bet on the game he's calling and swings the game with bad calls, it would stand out immediately. But a bad ref notorious for bad calls? Indistinguishable.
Honestly, I think “I loathe you” would be one of the worst things I could ever hear as an umpire. You get that, then you know it’s personal and he hates you
Instead of putting good calls where players threw a fit, why not just go find all the bad ones he’s made? He once had something like 19 missed calls in 3 games, so it’s not like they’re hard to find clips of.
You didn't do the Schwarber one justice or even the Harper one. Schwarber went on a good while telling him he's be wrong all night for both sides. The expression on the pitcher's face - even he knew it was a bad call. The Houston LA call and Orioles one got way too much time imo at the expense of Schwarber
Yeah he is a violation umpire he violated against the players call them strike three call on the bad pitch out of the strike zone plus they didn't swing the bat so that is a ball instead of strike he is a douchebag.
The sad part, and I don't wish this on him or anyone else, is that I think the only way MLB will actually get rid of Angel Hernandez is going to be after he makes a bad call and a player goes after him with a bat. Ideally, it shouldn't take that much. And again, I don't wish that on him. But when someone, such as myself, who doesn't even watch baseball not only knows your name but also knows why you're known, it's getting pretty bad.
I am sick of people blaming the union. Unions represent their members to ensure due process. That is their job. If they fail to do so, they can be sued by the very people they represent and fined by the NLRB. It's not their job to evaluate their members' performance. If you want to blame someone, blame the league office, which does not have the stomach to go through that due process.
In 1998, Mike Piazza said "the call was the worst he had ever seen in his baseball career". (it was a horrible missed call. dude never touched the plate. easily youtubable) 26 years later he still gets to do this shit?
Look at him smile, like he knows what he is doing and enjoys it. How would MLB and the umpires union react if one day when Angel is behind the plate both teams just refuse to play.
