The Cleveland Guardians have the #1 pick in this Sunday's MLB Draft and could take Travis Bazzana, Charlie Condon, JJ Wetherholt, Jac Caglianone or Chase Burns.
MLB Draft expert Joe Doyle joins the show to discuss the pros and cons of each of the top prospects.
Mock Drafts are starting to show a little agreement on who the Cleveland Guardians could select with the number one overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Bleacher Report released their latest predictions over the weekend and have the Guardians taking Oregon State 2B Travis Bazzana first overall.
“The possibility remains that the Guardians could look to cut a deal at No. 1 overall in an effort to spread out their draft pool, with West Virginia infielder JJ Wetherholt the most popular name in that conversation. However, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com recently surveyed 20 scouting directors across Major League Baseball on who they expect to be the No. 1 pick. It's going to be Bazzana. First time 1/1 pickers, Cleveland will not handle this like past 1st round picks. They will get Bazzana for 9mil at 1/1 or Bazzana goes 1/4 and gets less. Bazzana exhibits a high baseball IQ with goal oriented, laser focus, great vision and physical vitality, all which will cause him to only get better and better over the years. His presence on a team will naturally lead by example. He fits the Guardians player type and what they are trying to produce in their other players. Therefore he is the perfect specimen for Cleveland's player development. He is faster than Condon and stronger than both Condon and Wetherholt. When you see him in person, you see his compact power and bat speed. He has the developed tools and a mind to continue to strive for elevating those tools. I think the front office notices this. The goal oriented Bazzana will take the 1/1 money that Cleveland will offer because he wants to be number one to check off the goal. He is going to gleam off Jose and be the next leader of the team. He will sign a longer term contract early. Book it! (I'm not a profit but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.)

Did you just say bazzana is stronger than condon? condon literally has 10 more home runs in 70 less games than bazzana. Yes, I said that right. If were talking about power hitting, condon is on a whole different level its not even close. However, i agree they are going to pick Bazzana which pains me a lot. We will regret not getting Condon for a very very long time.

Pitching ,Pitching, and more pitching....why do you think the bookies base the odds on who's pitching...Chase Burns is definitely in play...However I do think the Guardians will pick Bazzana....Cape Cod numbers project well...Wetherholts hammy injuries and Condons..road play and marginal cape cod play will matter. Jac Caggs...very intriguing...unreal power and if that's all he focuses on ...wow..Antonnetti said it's about the group of players they select..get ready maybe for a surprise if that's the Case...Burns or Cags....Guardians want that 36 and 48 to reallly cunt!!! Can't go wrong with any of the top 5!

I think they will take wetherholt, he will take the discount to go #1. They need a power hitter but wont take the 2 best. It's all about the money for cheap ass dolan.

I Watched 2 UGA CWS games and I did not see anything special from Condon. he didn't get a hit or walk in either game. Bazzana from all intents and purposes has been the top guy since before the season started so let's see if thats what Guardians do

McKenzie and now Allen in the minors, you can defiantly make a case. Cleveland has the ability to identify what could be a diamond in the ruff and then develop. It probably will come down to if they feel they can get several good pieces of coal down the draft or not.

yep, if this team is serious about winning a World Series, they need a #2 or a #3 starter even if Williams pitches well. If we want to continue to be a cheap, just win the division, and pat ourselves on the back on what a "well run organization" we are, do nothing and get smoked by the Yanks in the playoffs.

They need starting pitching now. You do realize Burns would at best be 2, probably 3 years away from being in the majors. Drafting a pitcher at 1st isn’t the play this year.

@@geoffreyjames5475 yep, although, I don't think anyone they draft will help this year. Yes, if they are serious about wining the world series, they need Williams to pitch will AND a #2 or #3 starter. Also, they might want to look at how their pitchers prepare before entering the game. They seem to get smacked around in their first inning as if they are using their first inning to "warm up." We saw it from Bibee and Hentges last night. And we just saw it with this Howard clown today.

there are no overall #1s that you can build around this year. bad year to have the #1 overall because there is such a large chance of blowing it. please no more middle infielders unless you trade the current glut for a proven mlb commodity.

I wouldn't misconstrue the lack of a "can't-miss, superstar" with a lack of talent. The top of the board has several 50 grade prospects, normal years have the occasional 60 and a few 55, but a 50 grade draft prospect is still an avg to above avg every day player, with the potential for more. Also, MIF are always going to be the flavor of a draft, as that is generally where the most talented/athletic/highest ceiling athletes are playing in college and HS.

I disagree, when was the last time a hitter had the most home runs and highest batting average in the NCAA? & even better when was the last time that has been done against SEC pitching? Condon is the real deal. Bryce Harper vibes.

@@caitlynjenner6241 there were records being broken all across NCAA this year. What Condon did was impressive, but not sure it’s comparable to previous years. He’s not even remotely in Harper territory.

According to other sources/analyst Bazzana & Condon are both worthy of the overall #1 pick. Both probably would get moved to the outfield if drafted by the Guards. This is the first time I’ve heard an analyst downplay the top of the draft chart, others have stated they’re both projected future all stars, that’s what you’d want in a top pick, right? Not doubting his knowledge in the prospects but the optimism in me will buy more into the more positive outlook into the potential of the prospects.

Better not be another middle infielder so instead of picking players in rd 25-30 give it to the top picks push some chips in and get a true #2-#3 pitcher a true everyday RH RF and LH relif Tanner Scott
