Yes, great to see this side of their humanity, especially since most of the RU-vid clips involving umpires focuses on the disagreements and heated arguments. But what about 7:23
6:03 Damn good catcher to be able to understand what happened and what he needs to do before turning around to help. I mean damn he heard it and immediately stuck his arm back to help. Same at 6:50. I havent done much catching but the little I did I know how strong a bond is between a catcher and home plate ump. They trust you to do your job and keep them safe the best you can. Its why you rarely see catchers get ejected from games.
Timothy D Allen Nah. I bet if you showed this to the guys getting hit in “the dinger” they’d find as funny as it’s intended to be. Sanchez’s smile in the last segment is evidence of that. Not so funny at the time, though.
Really admire the batters and catchers helping the umps, especially grabbing their to keep them from falling and possibly getting hurt worse. Those are great reflexes.
One thing you'll notice is that if an umpire gets hit, the catcher is usually the one to react. If the catcher gets hit, the umpire is usually the one to react. Each of them understands what it's like to have that happen. The next time you're watching a game and either the catcher or the umpire gets hit, watch what the other one does when it looks like they'll be able to continue. The catcher will usually go out and talk to the pitcher, while the umpire may walk the new ball at least part way to the pitcher, or he may brush off home plate. In both cases, they're buying time for the other one to recover a little bit more.
I tried playing catcher one day in little league. I didn't last two innings. I felt like a pinata. I have no idea how these guys do it. How do you keep your eye on the ball when the batter is swinging? How do you jump up from a crouching position to throw a runner out at second? How do you block home plate when a guy is running for home as fast as his feet can take him, catch the ball, and make the tag without being knocked unconscious? Who would even want to play that position? Respect.
Spot on. If I wanted to hear that I'd taken my Nintendo system out of retirement and played the original Super Mario Brothers. Bloody fucktards if you ask me.
Those catchers turning like the way did and grabbing the umps so they don’t fall shows that no matter how mad they get at each other there is still respect between them and shows great comradery
I'm with Jim. It's absolutely asinine. If I wanted to hear it I'd got out my classic Nintendo 36 bit game console and played Super Mario Brothers original. Bloody fucktards.
Took a hit to the jewels when my daughter was munchkin-size. She was at that run-away train toddler phase. Two speeds. Stop and go. Took a hit that probably registered on the Richter scale. Thank God for ice packs, beer and understanding wives. Videos like this make me wince.
it’s really nice to see the batters be compassionate and concerned about the ricochet ball. a lot of pitchers and, most, batters don’t seem to care. it’s classy, no matter what sport you’re in.
The sound effects (the bell) reminds me of Jim Bouton's book "Ball Four." He wrote that whenever the catcher got hit in the cup, the players in the dugout would yell, "Ding Dong!"
Clicked because I read the title wrong and thought that all three of the guys in the thumbnail got hit at the same time, stayed because there were hits I've never seen.
The hockey goalie style mask is soo much better for these catchers, very small chance of taking a blunt hit to the head. Glad to see more guys switching to it.
@10:20 I think the announcer knew the pun he was dropping 😂😂😂😂 man get hit in the nuts... Then youre like yea it should be 0 and 1 after that pitch 😂😂😂
This kinda showed good sportsmanship. Like most of the opposing teams showed some sympathy and both teams ususally helped the umpires. Pretty sad, but wholesome
OMG.....At 9:11, the sound effects from getting hit and then jumping up and down are hilarious. I feel bad for him, but that was too funny. It's like he's trying to get those nuts to drop back in place. Why would the organist be playing the theme song from "Green Acres"?
The groin strikes reminded me of a famous Brian Johnston (not the AC/DC singer) cricket commentary. Thearticularly fierce fifth ball of on over (an over for those not faniliar with cricket ha 6 balls) had hit the batman in the groin. After receiving treatment he got back up and took strike, to which Jonners said "he's fine and taking up strike, one ball left". Cue laughter from the rest of the commentary team
I was like wow good on these catchers for helping the umpires not fall down, and then the clip at 7:26 happened and the dude just walked away from him lmao
I fucking lost it when you added those Mario sounds while he was bouncing around I needed that good laugh oh man I played for 4 Years so I know there are many different injuries
9:13 "Ah we can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance Well they're are no friends of mine"
Although not baseball related, I went to play paintball with some friends a few years ago, and I debated for like three days whether or not I should wear a cup I decided not to. About three hours in I had 4-5 people sneak up on me, and I was posted up down a trail shooting up at them I saw the first paint ball splatter about a foot in front of me and then second hit me square in the the family jewels. After I crawled away, I sat out for about 30 mins. If you think you might need a cup, just wear the cup. You know unless you want a story to tell about getting hit in the nuts.
Out Of ALL The Dings In The Video, And The Lightspeed Pain From The Catcher's " Two Friends In The Winnebago!..." Atleast This Pitcher Acknowledges The Fact That His Pitch (Hence The Slowed Down Scream!!!...) Did Some DAMAGE Too His Teammate!!! ROTFF!!!...😆😆😆 LMFAO!!!...😂😂😂
