Who were the most disappointing hitters in MLB for 2023? Carlos Correa (Minnesota Twins), Giancarlo Stanton (New York Yankees), Kris Bryant (Colorado Rockies), Jose Abreu (Houston Astros), Tim Anderson (Chicago White Sox), Anthony Rendon (Los Angeles Angels), Trevor Story (Boston Red Sox), Bryon Buxton (Minnesota Twins), Javier Baez (Detroit Tigers), and Anthony Rizzo (New York Yankees) all struggled in 2023, so let's look at their disappointing seasons, and why each of them underperformed this year.

I will forever stand by this. I’m so happy the cubs moved on from Bryant, baez , and Rizzo. The last few years with them we weren’t getting enough production and now all 3 of them have been struggling on their new teams. Can’t imagine how they’d be if the cubs kept them

With Javy there's a bit more to the equation on both the professional and personal level: His biggest issue to me is that the stance is all off. Tigers commentators started calling attention to it near the end of the year but I've noticed it since Spring training. Idk if it's the pitch clock or the yips or what, but his timing is completely off, his high leg kick is not consistent, and even the way he holds/moves the bat pre-swing changed day to day as if he was never comfortable in the box. Couple that with things like getting hit on the same spot on the same hand several times causing clear discomfort and other little injuries from his diving plays, a lowering in bat speed, loss of his grandfather, lowering in confidence, being moved down in the lineup to spots where he can't make an impact, etc and you get this down year. I do think he will bounce back, not just because I'm a Tigers fan and he has been my favorite player since well before he even came to Detroit, but because of his RISP numbers this year. With RISP Javy produced a line of .312/.361/.468 with an .829 OPS, when the team performs around him he improves greatly, and with a solid core developing in Detroit I think he will have the opportunity to continue that trend. (sorry for the whole ass essay, I just have a lot to say on this)

Lots of MLB players don’t deserve to make that much money this year Diamondbacks are in the World Series with players that make less than 15 million dollars and they’re in the finals, all those players who makes more money and they don’t prove that they are better that sucks. Like Alex Rodriguez who used to make $234 million dollars that makes me believe that just him by himself can play against a whole team making all game positions like catcher , pitcher out fielder etc. why having all the other players if him was making even more than the whole team?

But isn’t disappointment a matter of the distance between expectation and reality? No one who’s been paying attention should be disappointed about what Correa, Stanton, Bryant, Anderson, Rendon, Story, Buxton, Baez, and Rizzo did this season. We’re talking about guys who’re never healthy, guys who haven’t been good in half a decade, guys who are undergoing obvious, rapid declines. You might as well put Miguel Cabrera, Zack Greinke, Joey Votto, and Nelson Cruz on your list. Some actually disappointing players? Off the top of my head, I’d mention Guerrero Jr., Cease, Burnes, Nola, Urias, and Tatis Jr.
