it's also really hard to explain to people that disease progression isn't necessarily linear I know my father-in-law has an autoimmune disorder and he has whole years that are good years that he can get out and be more active and then he has years that are so bad he's pretty much house bound there's general progression but it's not just a straight.

Isn't Parkinsons a genetic disorder? Also his diagnosis in his 50s is not too off from the normal diagnosis age

@meaturama ok then, someone who worked on a research into Huntington's, thus becoming to know a lot about Alzheimer's, Huntington's and Parkinson's. These are neurodegenerative diseases. Not caused by stress. It's genetic. All of them are caused by certain genes and proteins, a defect in mitochondrial dynamics etc. It's not caused by stress, that's bs. It doesn't help, but it's not caused by stress. Someone with Parkinson's would develop Parkinson's even if they lived the calmest lifestyle ever. It just progresses and thus gets more noticeable and worst with age.

Joseph Andrews the MLM people definitely lie and exaggerate. My old corporate job at a major financial institution allowed people to work from home permanently or temporarily if they had personal struggles. I have anxiety and my manager ASKED ME if I wanted to work from home when she was I was stressed. Of course some jobs aren’t like that but it doesn’t speak to all corporate jobs when one has poor benefits or management. There are so many other companies.

They also paid for five therapy sessions and I was allowed to come in late on the days I went to therapy.

Many companies, bigger ones at least, have programs to help people with family tragedy. Oh and they give benefits 🤷🏻‍♀️ pretty sure mlms don’t give health insurance

My husband has a very good job in government contracting and while it's a "full time 9-5" he works from his office in our house, has the freedom to work a little more one day to cut out early another or to take time out of work to go to doctor's appointments, has LOTS of paid vacation leave, and can work from anywhere he can take his laptop. And there's that whole "health insurance" benefit as well. Huns love to talk about 9-5s as if they're all Office Space style cubicle jobs, but so many aren't. Many people do work for amazing companies that take care of them. It's all a farce.

A lot of jobs wouldnt of allowed all that time off.

My grandpa had Parkinsons too. He was not corporate but had an honorable job as a career policemen.

The majority of places don't pay for FMLA time off, as FMLA was created soley to protect your job. However more and more companies are voluntarily offering pay during the time off. Mine will pay 60%, which may seem little but it is much more then the nothing that the government mandated!

Also, the FMLA doesn't have to be taken all at once, it can be taken intermittently. Yes it's unpaid but at least your job is protected.

Mama&TheKid FMLA also is only mandated for employers with 50 or more employees

My workplace does not pay you under FMLA. If you have enough annual and sick hours then you will get paid. If you do not have enough annual and sick hours you get unpaid leave of absence and your job is protected up to 12 weeks.

I'm getting non-medical care, for help with housekeeping, shopping, cooking, etc. If I needed more help, like showering or medical help, that can be added too. You can also hire a family member or friend to do non-medical care instead of an agency, but then you're responsible for the payroll stuff (taxes, I-9's, W-2's, etc). BUT, I qualify because I am at the poverty line, and they don't pay for round-the-clock care like a family member might give. They only pay for services rendered by a nurse or caretaker. And honestly, the pay isn't great for the non-medical staff. If it was a family member, I can see it helping out at least, but it's not income replacement. If you want full-time comprehensive caregiver benefits, you have to buy Long-Term Care insurance before you need it, or be a veteran to get it through the VA. www.aarp.org/caregiving/financial-legal/info-2017/you-can-get-paid-as-a-family-caregiver.html @forevergirl, Despite what I outlined here, please check out Medicaid in your state to see if she can at least qualify for some of the help she needs. When I went vegetarian 5 years ago, this girl that i went to college with used that as an excuse to ask me about being vegetarian/vegan and then said she makes these smoothies with this awesome plant based protein, and me asking what the protein was, was an in for her to try to sell me It Works! and I kid you not- she texted me every SINGLE day. until 2 months later i had to finally say “STOP.” When I was getting married, It Works had a table at a bridal showcase and they were pulling aside brides and telling them they needed to lose weight for the big day and were putting wraps on them. So gross and distasteful AND demeaning to women.
