Hey everyone! It’s easy to step up and use a treadmill, but here’s some of my top tips for getting the most out of it. I love using the treadmill, it’s really easy and helps you to train at a good pace no matter what the weather is outside. All footage filmed at St. Mary's University, London.

This is how it should be done. As you retire and before you loose all your inability to train. You teach the next generation your secrets to success. Thanks Mo.

No secret, be born a freak of nature genetics wise, train hard for about 8 years and supplement some PEDs if you're close but not number one.
@TheSteinbitt
@TheSteinbitt 6 лет назад
So who do you think would win, a doped up genetic freak or a doped up normal person? If the sport is reasonably clean (don't know which sport that would be), then genetics and training prevails. If not you need additional help. And why would you sleep in an oxygen chamber, to lower endogenous epo? lol I bet that you couldn't break 2.20 marathon after 10 years of quality training and the best drugs in the world.

Absolute legend mo…just getting my treadmill sorted out now in time for the winter so no impact on my training…have to confess that after a year of training on roads and trails I am slightly hesitant to get back on the treadmill as feels like a step backward but I think benefits in winter outweigh disadvantages 👍

@Ligerpride
@Ligerpride 5 лет назад
@@wriches No it isn't! It's 9 km. It's clearly a metric machine. He's asked for his kg weight. Also, when talking about pace he clearly points to the machine he's using saying "some machines give you the kilometer pace" - which matches the speed showing. "how fast do you go first mile?" "Reeeally slow" really slow isn't 9 miles per hour. Look at the number when he can't get by with just walking. It's just 7....which is about right at 7km per hour. He can't walk casually at 7 miles an hour! Then he moves up to 9.....which is an easy saunter.

First I did run from 8 to 9, 10, 11.5, 12.5 and I had 5km's in 27 minutes. Now, I wanted to achieve 5km's in 24 minutes and started right the way from second 1, running 12.5, so that I could reach my goal in 24 minutes. Very bad idea, I stopped right the way after 4 minutes running 12.5 without any warm-up. I will do it today again, I will do it as I did it the first time but better and follow your example. Thanks mate!

I've made the mistake of trying to set off at 10mph (16kph) and hold it for 30 mins which is 5 miles tempo pace. I can do this outside on a good day but on the treadmill I was nackered after 10mins. Although now I ease into the run more like Mo said and it works much better.

Hi Mo, I discovered something awesome recently, my flat out 5k time on a treadmill was 20:30 and when I decided to modulate the speeds from 17kmh for 5 mins the 3 mins 14.5, 2 mins 17, 3 mins 14.5 etc etc I immediately got down to low 19 mins! The 14.5kmh 3 mins zones acting as a recovery phase helped me hang on. Is this a recognised way of running? After a year of no improvement I improved by over a minute in a week!!

Thanks for another one Mo. Could you do one on 400m and 200m track intervals to train for 5k/10k events, please? How long are your warmups before you get going? How many do you? At what pace (threshold/anerobic)? Do you split them into sets of 10 each for example. And do you jog in between the intervals or walk? How often: once per week or bimonthly? Etc. Thank you, Sir!

Hello Mo, do you have any tips for increasing pace durning a training run or a race. Whenever I use a treadmill I can keep pushing the speed until I finally give out. On the road it seems more elusive to hit that negative split. On a side, I’m mid 40’s and only started running three years ago so I’m still on the upswing of things.

Thanks for your inspiration! There are now also curved treadmills - I like the idea, but are they suitable for long-distance training. Because you run in the curve to accelerate. Does this have a negative impact on the foot position and the muscles because of the different angle. Does anyone know?
