I’m building a mast that will attach to a trailer hitch, it’s a telescopic mast that I can drive around with the mast around 10 ft, then I can stop somewhere and extend it to 35 ft. Being that the antenna will be up above my truck and far away from sheet metal, I should be ok right?
center of the cab would be recommended, however with a sunroof I would mount it closer to the bed. As there is a better ground plain there than near the front window
mobile antennas are always a compromise... all this 'pastern' information on this video are almost laughable.. depends so much on band and type of antenna... you need a good connection to the chassis of the car is by far the most important thing. I have 2 HF mobile antennas mounted on my car at the base of the hatch lid. According to this information on this video, I shouldn't even be being heard... well.. I work a ton of DX from my car and have tried my antennas in various places.... the thing I've found most important... have a good mount and a solid connection to the chassis of the car... the rest is just what works best and is safest for you and your vehicle and circumstance..
