Brake fluid interesting I would never have thought of such now I'll be running out to my shop to get some brake fluid LOL and see what it'll do. 🙂Thomas over at The Model Hobbyist

It worked good for me, I have heard others say it softened the plastic, I'm thinking they left it in to long.... After four hours looked nice vs 3-4 days with the Purple power..

Do you reuse the brake fluid? I think I'm gonna have to give it a try. I've had a Dart sitting in Super Clean for a month now and it's not even half way gone, including using a red scotch bright pad

ive used brake fluid in the past but ive found qcs which is non toxic and works really fast. i have a video showing how it works. its the best paint stripper ive ever used for models.

Nice.. figured there would be another solution for a fast removal. I was not sure how the brake fluid would work, I had heard others talking about it melting plastic.. I will check your video out.. Thanks Onix!

@@kregskorner8851 I works well, that was what I used before I took my 30 year break from modeling. Recently, I have used Purple Power, and it worked pretty good on enamel paint. I want to get some of that QCS by Stripwell. I seen a couple RU-vidrs use it, and it is great.

I started using dot 3 kept all the bottles to put back have used purple power not so good results 91% rubbing alcohol works really good on metal flake and enamel paint

I had a bad experience with Dot 3 trying to strip paint that was on a 66 AMT Ford Fairlane that was painted over a decade ago. Took almost a week to get enough paint off where I felt I could proceed with another paint job. Scrubbed it with Dawn 4 times and it just seemed like the greasy feeling would not leave the body. Primed it and the primer took almost two weeks before it dried.

That sucks.. This is the first time I had tried it, thought it would damage the plastic, I was surprised, this one was about 6 years ago or more since painted. I wonder if the type of paint being removed makes a difference, maybe a type of reaction from model paint or rattle can? This one has Testors model paint from a can, I'm curious on that... I was shocked the purple power did nothing, always had good luck with it.. Have a good one Jeremey!

@@kregskorner8851 I've never had an issue before using it. It was automotive touch up paint, which I also never had an issue with. Oh well, must have just been a random thing.

Hi Stefan, this was my first time trying this, I thought it would damage the plastic, to my surprise no harm done. I had thought about cutting it with something to save on the brake fluid and the plastic, I may try something different next time.. Thanks for the comment, have a good one!

@@kregskorner8851 BF will harm the plastic!Depends on how long its in the fluid!It then will make the plastic brittle!

@@kregskorner8851 My pleasure, yeah, I used to use paint thinner, making a mess and someone told me about it. For multiple layers, it may take a few sprays. Best wishes!!!

@@kregskorner8851 The beauty of oven cleaner is that it is sprayed on and you use only enough product to coat the model part. With brake fluid I cringe at the amount you have to use to soak and submerge a body part in, plus the container you have to source for the soaking procedure. You would want one that can contain the car body for example and be deep enough to submerge it (or just fill halfway and flip the body) but if it is too big in another dimension, that's a lot of brake fluid you would use to fill to get the fluid level up to where you want it. Disposal of all that brake fluid causes me some concern, that's all.

WHY, do you do it like that ? All you need are to brush the Brake fluid on the model, and it works. It's not harmful for your skin. I have worked with brake fluid in many ways, and never experienced any discomfort with it at all. You have to wait a bit, of course, for the fluid to work. And the it's almost only to peel all the paint off.
@kregskorner8851
@kregskorner8851 Год назад
I like to submerse it, mostly because I will do multiple body's, plus I have lots of the stuff, I work automotive and always have bottles laying around, I don't usually strip too many down, but if I do will try to do multiples from builds way back. I know its not that bad on your skin unless you let it set or if its in a cut due to it is caustic. I always go the extra on the safety end when it deals with online or the public, for me not a biggie, I have chemicals on my hands most of the day and never bothers, I know some can be sensitive.. Have a good one!
