I show and discuss which options and upgrades I chose and those I didn't go for on my Model Y Tesla. Considered paint protection film (PPF), a clear Bra to protect from those rock chips, a Ceramic Coating for the paint, bigger wheels, and custom lettering. These are simple things you can do that don't cost a lot to give your new vehicle a special custom look.

Good decision to apply a ceramic coating to your car. My wife and I have two SUV's, one is a 2012 and the other a 2013. I bought them both used and after doing a good cleaning I applied the Armor Shield brand of ceramic coating from AvalonKing. Both look like brand new paint. I applied it to the wheels too and all of the glass. They both stay really clean and are very easy to wash. Even break dust washes off in the rain.

From one Grand Pa to another love your down to earth videos. I'm retired and stretched our budget to buy a MY, I too think I'll do a DIY Ceramic Coating. I have detailed all my cars to include 7 vette's and have a great routine: Wash with Dawn Detergent, Wipe with a Clay Towel, Spray with an Iron Remover, Wipe down with an IPA than apply my favorite polish which has been ZAINO for the last 20 years or so. But I'll try a ceramic coating this time. My MY is being shipped from Kalif to Chicago on a train, then trucked from Chicago to St Louis. Rail dust will get embedded in the soft fresh paint which is why I need to use an Iron Remover. I take delivery of my MY on Sat. Anxious in Illinois. But before I apply it I will carefully inspect the freshly stripped paint for any issues and have the SC correct them before I apply the coating.

the only thing a ceramic coating does to protect the paint is reduce the UV and slow the fade of the paint and make washing with ultra soft cloth and mild or no detergents

I really enjoy your video Ron. Now that you have a great base coat of ceramic on the car you might consider using Meguiar’s hybrid ceramic wax. It’s worked really well for us on a few cars.

I did the Xpel Stealth on the entire MYP in MSM and it was $5k so not cheap as we know but the stealth sure does hide the terrible paint defects Tesla seem to have and my insurance covers it if something should happen to it. I also left off the bashing and used black vinyl versions of them instead. I’ve done so many high end ceramic coating that I felt it wouldn’t save the paint so I went with a full PPF.

Hi, Ron. I just ordered my Model Y and am awaiting my VIN. Question: how long do you have to wait for the paint to cure before applying the ceramic protection?

Normally, give it 30 days. You should wait a few weeks before washing it the first time also.

the only thing you can do to the Y to improve is to trade it for a model 3 or mach e or run it off a cliff

Not sure why you are so opposed the the Y, it is based on the Model 3 and is very similar, just a little bigger.

@@grandparonstesla5141 tesla is a symbol of innovation and future thinking well when they made the y it was the laziest thing ever and when the 3 is better in every way where do you see the vision of future or innovation to make this car slope down in back was retarded it should have had a rear more like the mach e with a more vertical lift gate they said it would be a SUV but no its a CEV i wanted a model y with ground clearance but no they just put bigger wheels to get it higher lol..... there was no brains used to make this car it was a step back it is a tact like VW would do..... and for some reason those clown car windows are way to big and the blind spot is the most unsafe in its class and tesla will likely have to recall the car because under diver side seat debris can pass under with ease and interfere with pedals just shit on shit on shit

I love what you did but the font of the lettering looks really out of place. I would have personally gone for a more minimalist font. But if you like it then keep it on
