Those original Continental Tires are especially made for the Tesla and have noise dampening foam. I've had good experience with with Generals on a Camry and Consumer Reports rated one model very high in wear resistance and noise, but that's without a foam layer. Of course the reason for the layer of foam is EV's are so quiet because there's no engine so you hear tires more. I wonder how much of a difference the foam really makes.
Love the video, Ron. Hard to find videos on the process of installing that are not trying to sell you something, so thank you for being honest. Happy New Year and Happy Motoring 😊.
Thanks for creating the videos on this bike! I’m looking to purchase one and have been in contact with Zen. Quick question: your Topeak trunk bag - did you get the topeak rack adapter to get it to fit the rack? Or another solution? Any problems with the bike? What size bike did you get? Thanks again for posting the great content:)
On the bag I didn’t buy any adapter. I use large zip ties to hold the back down and the front clips onto the rack. I did have to modify the bottom plastic piece of the bag. The sharp edges of the plastic would eventually cut through the zip ties so I trimmed off some where the zip ties bend around. I still love the bike however just last week the shifter got real hard to turn. Got a call into Zen now. I have well over 4000 miles in the bike.
Thanks for the initial review and follow up. You mentioned that you got the large size. Can I ask how tall you are and how the bike fits you overall? Cheers.
do you have to enable the HOLD everytime you drive? could you set it up as default, so it statys like that all the time, even when ou shut down the car? Thank you
Live in NJ. Not exactly the boondocks. Just got my first set of new tires for my M3LR. Saving one of my original tires for a spare for the few times that I will travel long distance. Will never attempt to change it myself. I think it makes sense.
Hi - now that you’ve had your samurai for a while, how comfortable do you find it for say three hour rides? Is the hand pain you had on the previous bike gone? Great introduction to the bike, really enjoyed the video.
My longest rides now are just over 2 hrs. I do get tired but it’s mostly mty legs. No numbness in hands although I do move them around a bit. Will make another video soon as I have over 3,000 miles on the bike.
Surprisingly my wife loves our EV (not a Tesla) because of the smooth ride. It also has some of the familiar controls for the climate system, wipers and glove box.
After getting an EV and installing a mini-split heat pump for heating and cooling we expanded our solar array from 3.3 kw to 5.2 kw. We do take advantage of free Level 2 charging at our Community Recreation Center about five times a week. That covers all of our weekly town driving. We only charge at home about once week that’s only a partial charge. I do drive the EV more than I thought I would because it is so nice.
Thanks for your video. I just purchased my 2023 Tesla Model Y long range a few days ago. Also that same day did a test drive in the Model Y. So right now waiting for my VIN number and delivery date. I also am retired and will be just driving around town and short single charge trips. I don't have solar, but will be mainly charging at home via 220 volts. I am really going to like all the features of the Model Y and is a fun car to drive. Really love single pedal driving. I am just going to stick with the Basic Auto Pilot. EAP (6,000 dollars) and FSD (15,000 dollars) are just to costly right now plus I really don't see a need for them. Take care.
What about the battery bank to store that energy. If you work you can’t charge your car during the day during peak sun light hours? Are you just getting a discount through your electric provider
Battery banks are still too expensive. I rarely lose power and generate more solar than I need. Some day I will have a car that can supply power to the house when needed. That will be my bank.
Found out the hard way got flat and was surprised didn't have spare on the Leaf..then checked my Ariya also didnt have spare..so had to buy 2 spares tires but rather have them especially since i travel a lot and getting stranded in Arizona 120° even few minutes its not fun. Rather chnage tire myself than waiting hours for roadsides assistance
Great review. Have you had a chance to test drive a 2023 MYLR with the new Tesla stock "comfort suspension"? Wondering if it would benefit from the MPP kit? I have the Gemini 19" wheels with the new 2023 "comfort suspension" from Tesla and it still seems quite harsh.
Moral of the story.... go bigger then you think by atleast double! I have 6kw inverter 9kw panels and 11kwh battery... summer will cover me easy.... thing is winter when it's about half production at most.
Did a DIY install of 17 panels in S.D. about 10 yrs ago. Since then, have added two electric cars, so I expanded the system with 6 more panels. The key is use microinverters. They are relaible and allow expansion easily.
Teslas generally are more prone to getting nails because of the sheer weight of the vehicles as well as Regenerative Braking. I’ve already had 4 or 5 in mine.
Excellent video. Just purchased a new Modern Spare tire kit off of Craigslist San Francisco for 250 bucks. Did a test fit on our 2021 Tesla Model 3. It was a great price, and it works just great. Our rubber pad did not sag like yours; you might want to purchase a different brand. We will only carry this spare tire for long drives to LA or Vegas etc.
Wow your power company is ripping you off with those rates. Both the net metering buy back rate .13 cents on the dollar and .62 cents per kwh at night. SDGE that's San Diego i'm assuming? It's ironic how politicians are pushing for people to go green yet allowing bills like this for the power companies to pass.
Simply a question but: WHY No battery? In your case it sure sounds like you bought a bike and found out that you really needed a truck. Too much retirement and too little knowledge on your travelling needs, retirement does not mean your life stops and that you have less time. Retirement means more time to explore and get around to doing those things in life you did not have time to explore when you were a working dude. More Solar is always the way to go PERIOD and by all means get yourself as much battery as you can afford Charge up on Low electricity and use that battery when the power is expensive.
Batteries sound good but are currently way too expensive compared to using the grid as a backup. My electric bill is $10 a month and. Battery bank costs $13,000 for each unit. Most houses get 2 units. Not very economical if the grid is available.
@@grandparonstesla5141 Actually the reverse is truer. Charge up your battery when electricity is cheap and use that power to electrify your home. Saving the grid during the day for selling your excess power generated and negating any and all Electricity Bills. Some people need things spelled out I guess. Other things just need common sense to figure it out.
