I didn't buy too many modern US commemorative when released. The coin shows do have good prices on after market varieties. I did ok buying the silver baseball coins when first released and won big with the Eisenhower chronicle sets. If you want modern with a chance of keeping value then get ATB's and burnished ASE's in slabs. The bullion ATB's can also be winners or at worst the same value based on the history of the series.

Thanks for all the information again. Kind of a bummer and let down for the folks that bought into some of these because of the low mintage. That's usually how my luck goes to Lol!

As much as we don't like to admit it the bottom line is it boils down to what the traffic will bear. It's astonishing how the interests in the hobby seem to change with the weather. As an example Peace Dollars were at one time very popular as were Half Dollar Commemorative's but now you never know what's popular and what isn't until you try to sell it...I couldn't believe some of the dealers at the recent Fun show and how their interest in various coins differed so greatly ...Some were all over everything while others wouldn't give you the time of day...Thanks again Daniel for the fine presentation !

I'm a new silver/coin collector this year. The silver ATB quarters and state quarters appeal to me so I started from there. Now I I'm interested in modern commemorative coins silver dollars and clad half dollars. And the older commemorative dollars and half dollars. Pretty much any silver in coin change.The gold I am interested in but not purchasing at this time. I like the numismatic value of the silver. As well as the low mintage of the modern commemoratives in the last 5 to 6 years. I like the fact interest is low as well. Because it won't always be. Getting them now there affordable and if the price of silver spikes and that's likely, but who knows when. There's a good possibility that some of those modern commemorative dollars will be sold for the silver melt. Making them even more rare. If coin collecting interest picks up (also very possible in the future.) The US Mint is actively promoting coin collecting again because interest is currently very low. The w West Mint ATB quarters in this year's 5 coin offering this year in 2019 is one example. Also this year for the first time the ATB quarters are 99.9% silver the half dollar and dime are as well. Also a first. The modern commemoratives are definitely a long term investment. But one that (In my opinion) can only get better from here. What do you think?

A buddy of mine brought over some commemoratives to look at, He had Dolly Madison Botanical Gardens and a few others I can't remember.... They were nice.... He had one of the sets of Botanical Gardens but it wasn't the one with the special nickel in it, I think it's a nickel ??? There's something about that set that's special and I forget what it is.

You have touched on everything that I've been worried about since I've started collecting...Through the years I have collected modern commems from the U S Mint, the Royal Canadian Mint, the Perth Mint and the Royal Mint. Some of these gold and silver coins as you mentioned are sold at a huge premium over the price of spot and were very expensive. If all I or my heirs can expect to receive is spot or less from these coins I wonder if I would be better off to sell my collection either by starting my own RU-vid coin auction channel or by selling locally through Offer Up, Craigslist, etc. to get a better offer.

the 2000 P Leif Ericson $1 Silver is a really nice coin, and they only minted 28,000 of them. As far as older silver commemorative coins go, the Oregon Trail coin was made for a while and its beautiful. James Earl Fraser and his wife designed it. Fraser designed the buffalo nickel.

If I only care about the precious metals and I can get these for a lower premium then A 1/4 oz Gold bullion coin, peace dollar, or 1 oz Silver bullion coin then are the gold or silver worth it? Especially since I can sell even a 1 ounce silver round to a coin shop for two or three dollars over spot right now.

My local dealer said the Unc 1982 Geo Wash 50C is worth more than the proof because the proof is in a sealed capsule. Basically these coins are either melted down or sold as junk silver. I find modern commems a bad way of owning gold or silver because they can be difficult to sell. I think my local dealer pays $1 under melt for 1986-1993 silver dollar commems. I'm surprised the grey sheet says the 1982 50C is worth $8 when it's not even worth that in melt value. I think a dealer would pay $4.

I love this coin. I have the proof . I think the clad is worth a little more because there were actually less of them minted than the proof.
@ZXC_ZXC1
@ZXC_ZXC1 4 года назад
@@76biggdogg The Geo Wash commem silver half has no collector value whatsoever because over 7 million were minted in both Unc and proof. They are just bullion coins now. However the US Mint sealed the proof halves making them difficult to remove and make a roll of 20 out of them.
