One of my favorite Wyrmlyfe moments was when everyone was huddled around the screen watching the numbers for the MGT shoot through the roof and everyone freaking out. We haven't gotten kickstarter reactions since the MGT and I really hope we can get that for this campaign.

I can say why I'm personally out on it. It ultimately comes down to price point. Which I totally understand why it's where it's at, happy for yall to move more towards being positive in the books XD. From the get go I was so on board with getting one of these. Then I saw the padauk snippets and I think it is a legitimately inspirational piece. Major props. But on the flip side I work for a small mom and pop custom fine furniture business so I have the skills and machinery at my disposal. I'd rather take 5-7k and buy myself more equipment for my home shop and then find another avenue to support Wyrmwood. Is it expensive? Ya. Should it be expensive? Ya. Does that price you out of lower income demographics? Ya. But isn't that the point? Super nice shit costs money unfortunately. The goal of the modular game table was to make an affordable version of gaming tables. With this project it felt more like you were aiming for a modular desk version of the prophecy, not an affordable version. And you guys definitely delivered on that aspect, development looked super tight. Now it's time to cash in on that sweet, sweet design work.

Woodworker here. I love this desk simply because I will use the concept to make my next one. But from a cost point of view, it is not THAT expensive. It is not cheap but given all you get and quality it is not bad. That being said, I will not use left overs, everything will be 6/4 6 foot long boards. I understand why they use the patchwork, but I dont like it.
@RC3117
@RC3117 Год назад
@@AlainPilon This is exactly what the project ended up for me. As they kept adding stuff I could only see the price point going up. As well some design features really do not appeal. So now I have a CAD design for my own desk that has inspiration from their desk. And it will cost me about 1/8 the price of even the cheapest option from this Kickstarter. That is not to say I do not love what Wyrmwood does, but to quote the greatest add of all time. "Wyrmwood, not for poor people". and with pricing in CA right now, my once roomy budget has gone very tight.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I just built my "dream" desk for fun and it came out to 6K dollars 😭. This is such an incredible project. From the design to the finishing to the accessories it truly looks like a high-end, well-crafted, and beautiful desk but that price point just hurts! I'm planning to get the desk (I've spent so much damn money with Wyrmwood), but there was one part in the video I wanted to really talk about: why someone like me would get a desk like this. Yes, it has a ton of great features and looks fantastic, but when it comes to using a desk like this, there are two implicit traits that are incredibly important to use with your value proposition: the centerpiece that it is to your home office, and the tone it sets when you get in the room. Setting this desk up is going to help me define my mindset when I get to work, and will be the first thing that myself and others will notice. It'll let me shift my thinking from the comfort of one room to the productivity of THIS room, and the desk brings it all together. I can't wait!

I was actually going to get one of these today as I have available funds, but after building the desk I want and looking at the final cost, over $7k I couldn't justify the purchase. I agree the only problem I foresee is that this product doesn't super focus on your current audience (of course it pertains to them). I feel you're aiming at a different audience with this desk the real question is how do you make sure they see the product and know the quality. If everyone knew about this desk you'd have no problem selling it regardless of the price but currently, the streaming/content people are all focused on the Secret Lab sit-stand desk that just came out that's less than $1,000 and is a very nice desk (nowhere near as nice as yours of course) but the question is how do you reach that audience? Maybe reach out to people like Linus Tech Tips and try to get them to review your desk to put it more in the public eye.
@HonestAuntyElle

Streaming / content people largely need value before all else, because they could spend the 2k difference on sound/cameras. Unless they are straight ballers, it's not a market that will jump on. It feels like a lot of people are getting drawn into it because it looks great when its fresh, but I have a feeling its going to come back around in the future when people who don't know Padauk turns brown overtime see their desk fade away from the bright red they wanted. @@jasonjoyce7835 Yeah the thing about Padauk (and less so Purpleheart) is that you have to love what it looks like when its old. You can avoid the aging if you keep it out of the sun, but that only helps so much. That incidentally is also why Cherry is heavily underrated, because it only gets better with time and sunshine, but unless they age it beforehand (which it seems they did for the examples they have for this table, so good on them) it can look unimpressive. If you're not into the darker woods but also want something thats going to stay amazing basically forever, Cherry is the way to go. I have two trays, two sets of dice (prismatic and obsidian), and three dice vaults... oh, and a tower. But the more I see you grow the more I worry about the price wall in the company. It is logical, yall need to grow and y'all need to be successful... AND judging by what I'm seeing it's worth every penny... but what about the poor working people. This is not a criticism at all... just an honest worry I have had. If I can ever afford one of your desks I would buy it in a heartbeat... but at this point, it's more cost-effective for me to buy a beatific live edge slab and a stand. Would it be as pretty or well-made? Hell no,. But would it be equal parts more cost-effective for me... yes. I know y'all are better... I don't know the answer... I think pricing an indisputably luxury item appropriately, at a luxury price point, is actually healthier for customers. People should not expect they can buy everything they want that's actually beyond their means. It's not classist to say some things are just too expensive to buy. And if we're going to care about manufacturing jobs staying domestic, companies have to be able to set realistic prices.

$3000 as the buy in point is way too expensive in my opinion. I know plenty of people who have expensive PC setups worth 5-8k+ who would be unwilling to spend that amount on a desk. On the topic of people spending on computer parts. Those parts add something to the performance of the computer. A new graphics card adds better video, a better monitor can add better resolution and a faster hard drive speeds up load times. All of these pieces adds something to the joy of pc gaming or whatever you use your pc for. The desk brings aesthetic but not performance and aesthetic is optional expense. A desk is also a solo experience a dining table or a gaming table is a shared experience. You want a nice one to show off to your friends and the nice thing about wyrmwood tables is they bring something unique to the wood table design. This desk looks amazing but it doesn't really bring anything new that I see and it isn't something that can get showed off. Plus the launch of the kickstarter is also competing with the cyberone which is at half the cost and offers some truely interesting features but is not a wood desk. I am defintely curious how this kickstarter will preform. Good luck and wishing you guys the best tomorrow.

I can pretty confidently say you're mistaken in your estimation of where the expense is. I priced out lumber for a "butcher block" style desk I was considering making a couple years ago. Even then, the price jumped to stupidly large numbers when you started looking at solid lumber planks of the more exotic hardwoods. Gave up the idea when I realized doing it myself wasn't saving much, if anything. Can only imagine that's even more true now with lumber prices over the last year.

I also feel like I'm directly in your target audience for something like this, and I definitely balked at the cost of my dream Padauk desk. I mean, at $7,000 it really gave me pause. There's a cost-benefit ratio there that I just can't overcome at that price. Oddly enough, I think it's mostly because I work from home and my current sit/stand is pretty good, whereas if I was in an office, in a client facing role, that would change the ratio in a huge way. Something like this is definitely a statement piece, and I imagine you'll attract people whose desks are more "visible to others", rather than those who just work remote and want a good desk, like me.

for a $3000 pre-order, i'd wait for the base model. for a $3000 kickstarter i'm excited. for a $3000 kickstarter pre-order with a cap, i'm out. it's a sexy desk. i want that desk. i'm not gonna stress about a desk. hell, i wouldn't sweat that hard over tickets to my generation's legacy comeback tours....and i'd rather see My Chemical Romance than be in slight debt for a few months over a desk that will last longer than me. i hope the success allows for a sit/stand 2.0 (which can add on a drafting skew....which is what i need)....but this one is not for me.

I thought the exact thing as soon as Doug started talking about "they shell out for high end monitors, headphones, why not a desk?" Because the desk doesn't improve the performance of the PC. At absolute best, it improves your aesthetic experience of it when not gaming, but yeah it's not going to make the graphics better, or help you hear footsteps in an online match. Not the same thing.

I would 110% buy this desk had I not built one myself a little prior to the pandemic. It’s not as nice as yours but I’m pretty sure we landed on the exact same base. I have a ton mounted to my desk and it’s a longer/narrower desk. I wonder if I would have liked your larger desk style more. I certainly would have liked having more storage options, but my PC tower is stored under the desk as well. So if I had shelves would have to rearrange what is on my desk and that gets complicated because I have SO much on my desk for work, personal time, and streaming.

Here’s the thing: I love these desks. I could even technically afford one fairly easily. But I just can’t justify 3000 for a desk. I got a medium table with a topper for about half that. I understand cost of materials have gone up, and I understand you took a loss on those tables up to this point. But the draw on those tables was the VALUE and I just don’t see that with the desks, as beautiful as they are. Given that the desks use the same production processes as the table and they are already in place, accepting that a desk costs twice as much as a dining room table/gaming table is a tough pill to swallow. I hope to see these available in the future at a better price once things become more streamlined and you recoup some losses.
@PanCircumsonus
@PanCircumsonus Год назад
100% agree. Yes it is a practical and beautiful thing, but the cost is hard to swallow given the current state of the economy and inflation that Wyrmwood itself has highlighted. Was designing a premium top line product the best choice for the current economy? Is there a market that is sustainable for this level of product? We will find out today and it’s very interesting either way!

I look at it like this 3k is a lot of money but when you see wat 1-2k can get you if you want actual wood it’s just a plank of wood with crappy legs for the most part, in my opinion this desk is worth way more for the quality and usability not to mention all the accessories and on top of that the choice of some of the best looking woods out there you would expect the base price to be 5k so 3k being the average is a steel Unfortunately I don’t have 3k to spend tomorrow but hope I can buy one before it becomes a 2 year wait list

absolutely fantastic promo video. I'm one of those people who just watch for the content as I don't have the finances to support purchases, but if I had the money and wasn't already interested in the product from what had been shown on wrymlife, that promo video would be an instant sell. The shot composition is fantastic, the cuts on beat are perfect, but the part that truly shone brighter than the rest was showing the bare desk and cutting through adding more pieces onto them. The shot panned up so perfectly consistent, nothing moved between shots so the framing stayed the exact same. It's just executed so insanely well through and through.

2K for a base desk that doesn't even move is too much. WW was originally making stuff affordable but this seems like a outrageous passion project for the higher tier people and lost focus for those of us who would of wanted to get something like this. Someone else in the comments mentioned the Secret Lab desk for less than a 1K and my friend bought two of those for himself and at this rate I would have to go that way if I wanted a desk of this tier despite preferring a quality wood. I get that it's going to be pricey between the quality, sustainability and I assume you're paying everyone fairly but I don't see how between everything it should cost a BASE desk 1800. There's a smaller wood/epoxy company I watch in Canada that makes same quality tables for less and they don't have nearly as much of a production facility as you, and to think I use to think they were charging a bit much. Really lost me here, WW. That hurts.

BUT, could *really* use a mount-mount for the MGT so I don't have to use tripods and spring clamps to stream my (2x) weekly D&D games to anyone that can't make it in person. Or, a similar solution that will put a 1/4-20 mount onto the MGT rail quickly and easily for mounting webcams, etc. Happy to help if you want to contact me. Best of luck on the KS, y'all!

MAKE BIGGER DESKS! I don't have $12K laying around (which is what it would cost for everything that I'd want on this desk in wenge hardwood). What I DO have is a large tower, 8" bookshelf speakers, audio interfaces, a mixer, microphone, camera equipment, 2 monitors (and a TV), headphones, keyboard, mouse, external hard drives, a stand for my laptop, and a drawing pad. My current desk isn't even a desk. It's a teak patio table. It's 70x36 and it feels TINY. Half the aforementioned things I have aren't even currently on the desk, because they just don't fit. That twitch streamer setup is way too clean, number one. Number two, nobody working from home with a desk this big has just their desktop - they also have a laptop going. If I had my big ass 17" laptop, my writing pad, and everything else I keep on my desk ACTUALLY on this desk, that "executive" or "gamer" setup would instantly feel cramped, trust me. Oh, and I didn't even mention the fact that since the drawers don't have cable passthroughs, you can't stash any tech in there like you would with a media console. 78"x36" IS NOT BIG ENOUGH, especially if you start adding in drawers that begin to limit how much you can physically move around the desk before your legs start hitting the cubbies. Y'all need to start considering looking at doing something like an XXL desk. 90"x40" would be more in line with a product like this, because SPACE is paramount - both width AND depth. I have a limited amount of floor space, which (counterintuitively) means as much desk space as possible is necessary. I spend 12+ hours at my desk every day. I NEED SPACE.

If I hadn't already bought my sit stand desk for work this past year and gaming the year before that, I would buy this. Unfortunately, I just can't justify the price point when I already have wood-topped sit stand desks. Maybe in the future I can buy this when I want an upgrade (if it ever becomes a real product on the website), but the timing just isn't right for me. A year sooner and I would have dropped the cash for it but the stars didn't align. Hope everyone who gets one, loves it. I do think that the branding on this launch could have been a little more consistent with the price point. This desk is great and warrants the price point that it's at, but it is not a spiritual successor of the MGT -- it's (IMO) too pricey for the "modular" branding. I agree with comments that it would have made more sense to position this desk as part of the Prophecy line. That's just my thoughts on the matter. I hope it does well, but it reads as much more pricey in comparison to the MGT.

Don't be too disheartened if you miss with this. It's significantly more expensive than MGT was, and the comments on these videos reflect that. Question is like you said: where is the ceiling? You never really got to find out with MGT due to the timeframe. There's also a question of how many additional supporters have you gained since MGT -- I've no idea. And people saved up a lot even for MGT, which was much cheaper. Where are people financially now, not long after the GM screen too? And has the MGT troubles lost you any support? So lots of variables. Very hard to predict. Personally based on the MGT numbers, I'm guessing 3,500 backers for this at initial buy-in, though I wouldn't be surprised if you hit 5000 in the end. I will be surprised if you smash it immediately, but anything can happen.
