A screen riser to go with the desk might be a good addition. It helps lift the screen to eye level like Doug wanted at 10:04 but it keeps the keyboard at a lower position that is more comfortable to type with.
@jonevansauthor
@jonevansauthor Год назад
I wouldn't recommend that to someone using a sit stand desk, because when you raise and lower it, there's going to be some wobbling. Plus the giant monitor/s you'd have on such a desk are even more dangerous if they fall off it. I'd use a monitor arm. Although, as I said elsewhere, I need to see their mounting solution being used on an equivalent quality monitor before I'd trust that design. I can't wrap my head around how it would actually work and be safe.

thats what the mount mount is for
@jonevansauthor
@jonevansauthor Год назад
@@SurelyLightFoot it did occur to me you could the mount style that requires you to drill through the desk. Useless for many of us, because you cannot predict where you need to mount a future monitor. They're not usually centre mounted. The size and shape of the monitor and your current seating position dictates all of that. So you need to be able to use a normal mount, without drilling through the desk, along the entire length of the desk. FYI everyone called that out in every video they've done about it. My hope is, that you can clamp to it and they tested it (again lots of us did say they needed to test it). Their desk will be feature risk, which immediately puts it in a higher bracket. If I can't position monitors securely though, wherever I want along the back edge, I have no reason at all to buy it.

For the cable management box - loops of some sort that I could run cable ties through would be great. Because while HIDING the cables is nice, MANAGING them is another part of it. Desk is absolutely killer. Great work.

Agreed, even if you just throw in some Velcro loops
@SurelyLightFoot
@SurelyLightFoot Год назад
I mean just throw a Velcro strip on the top and use velcro straps. Any additional manipulation is going to drastically increase the cost. I will say that the trough is probably a bit over kill. Even with recording equipment and dual monitor setup a 2x4 cable rack is plenty. This adds a huge footprint and weight which will ultimately decrease the longevity of the motors. I think a sheet metal track that has brackets to mount into the accessory track would be a more elegant solution and wouldn’t draw away from the overall design due to its smaller profile. Could even make it out of veneered ply.
@Total_Egal
@Total_Egal Год назад
na no need for. did you saw that cable tray? its enclosed from all sides. you can make cableloops and velcro them in itsself and just trow it in there. close the door and you are done. if you use lot of stuff you can just velcro it to the others and it will stay somewhere in this huge tray. nice point with such a large tray is you dont need to organise it a lot sinde there is enough space and its hidden enough. (you can also just screw in something if you realy need a solid fastening point somehow))

I love where this is going, and I might end up selling my existing desk to get one of these depending how it works out. But there's a few things: 1) I'm not that confident in the monitor mount. Most sit on top of the desk, sandwiching it betwen the plates. Having it hang off the edge makes me nervous about the strength. Instead of the weight pushing into the tabletop itself (as every other monitor mount does), it's hanging off which gives it leverage against the rails. I honestly don't think the current mount looks strong enough. Especially the bit that goes into the slot, that looks to have too little surface area, and that overtime it'll make a dent in the top of the slot, leaning the entire thing backwards. And even if it is strong enough, how much will it wobble when you're typing quickly? People will have 32" 4K monitors (people with the money to drop on this won't be using cheap monitors), and potentially multiple, all resting on those rails. If you test it you need to have several to spread the load across that entire rail to see if it can withstand the 30+lb monitors people will have. 2) The cable trough seems way too overengineered. I get wanting it to look good if the desk isn't against a wall, but it looks like it'll be far too expensive to be worth it for a lot of people. It's very tall too. And for all of that overengineering, the entire middle floor opens out, meaning anything resting there will fall too. Wouldn't having just the front open still give you lots of room to get your arms in, without losing space to manage things in the middle when it opens? 3) Will you make a non sit/stand version? Could be a cheaper/more afordable option for those that don't want the sit/stand functionality. Or just selling the tabletop itself so people can mount their own legs/use cabinets for the desks (which is very popular for Ikea stuff, to get the nice looking tabletop on top of cabinets for storage). 4) You mentioned the larger cabinets but didn't show them. Will they be able to be open the entire way through, or will they have something across the middle? I've got a small form factor PC (NR200 case) which looks like it might fit in a larger cubby (though I'd probably have to mod it to get enough airflow).

I agree with this. especially sense most people that have the mounts have more then 1 screen thats kind of one of the biggest things in mmo community is to have more then 1 screen. i would move the stand from the back of the desk and put it on the middle back. and if the person does not want to use it. design a plug with your logo. and when you have the plug out. its a coaster or a cool paper weight

The desk looks great. I think if you're going to have the wireless charger accessory it would make a lot of sense for it to be wired now you've got a desk with power at it. Having it battery chargeable makes sense for the MGT but I think a desk version should be more permanent and hardwired

@PluralPaul

They should make something that sits between the desk and the wireless charger accessory that can charge the accessory AND allow for it to be used while plugged in. Then they don't need to change how the accessory works already, and now the charger becomes an on-the-go option when you're in a pinch.

One thing that would be a nice discussion on the desk is offering the desk top for those that don't want/like sit stand. One popular thing done on /r/battlestations is people using a couple nightstands from ikea with a butcher block counter top resting on top. I have no need for a sit stand. I would be paying for something that I never use but would love the desk top version of it to rest on the stands. I don't feel like it would be too difficult. and gives customers more options.

+1 agreement on the over-engineered cable trough. An open sheet metal channel with some contact points for velcro loops, paired with a simple front skirt board, would be significantly cheaper, simpler, and lighter for the consumer and company. Something that simple (and already-solved) isn't where Wyrmwood's innovation is needed. Where it IS needed is on the ergonomics side. As has been mentioned here, a keyboard resting on the same plane as a standard monitor will likely result in uncomfortable/medically-bad resting posture, so a solution for a monitor riser (or a lowered keyboard shelf) should be part of the MVP product, not an add-on.
@ShadrolGER
@ShadrolGER Год назад
Personally i think that cable trough is waaay too overengineered and bulky. I guess the bulk comes a bit with the territory; wood needing more thickness than metal. Of course all that real estate on the wyrmwood through is that youll never have any problems with cables that are too long or with plugs with large adapters. One problem I see though is that the floor falls away when the latch is opened. So it seems to me that cables or power strips would fall out when cable managing. The solution on my personal sit-stand desk is simply 2 mounts with 4 strong screws that hold the through on its 4 corners and trough itself isnt affixed directly to the table but rests on those screws. This way you can easily swing it either direction and take it off for cable management. It seems almost cheap in a way, but from an ease of access perspective I prefer it over any other solution with mechanisms that actively lock the throughs in place.

My initial thought was also surprise and concern about the cable tray design. However I understand why Jason chose this design the more I look and think about it. He's balancing accessibility, functionality, cost, and design valiantly here. There is definitely room for power adapters/power blocks on the left or right, or velcro strapped to the wood ventilation slats if accessibility demanded that. If I were to consider how I would organize my current cables within this design, I don't think I would have many, if any, issues. Velcro straps or command strip cable bundlers are easy enough for us to install ourselves. I think if the door hinged in the center of the floor of the box, it might assuage people's concerns about the bottom entirely falling away when opened. This design may also be too bulky vertically? It looked decent when Jason opened it, so 6 inches might be the minimum height, which if I had to guess, its probably 8 or 9 inches right now?

Pretty sick, I really like the cutout where you sit and the cable management holes. An option for a monitor standoff box like the trough along the back of the desktop to sit your monitors on and get them off the desktop surface with the same cable routing grommets would be cool. A lot of monitor stands don't have very good height options and it could double as more/alternative cable management options to the trough. The other question my engineering brain asks is what is the weight limitation on the legs being used (Assuming they're dual motor and not the final choice either). My guess is the specs on the legs (based on the ones I bought years ago) used are in the ballpark of 200lbs-ish. With the solid wood tabletop, trough and a couple large cubbies (or XLs) I would guess you're eating a pretty good chunk of that with just the desk hardware. Slap a few monitors on there, some other gear and maybe a PC on your desktop and it adds up quick. Probably overestimating some of that weight though, my butcher block tabletop is a thick bitch... I REALLY like the idea of the mount mount for monitor/mic/camera, etc arms, interested in the weight tests on it. Last thing anybody wants is a failed mount dropping their monitors on the floor.

I need like 2 cabinets, one on each side for documents, folders, binders and such. Personally I can't use the he sit stand feature and I'm skeptical about that monitor arm thing. One concern is how the PC cables will run. The cable tray looks great but if the PC is on the floor there are still long ugly cables next to the desk to handle the slack of Z-movement. PC data cables are typically not very long so likely have to run outside the cable tray. If you place a small PC in the drawer box, you have continuous cooling issues with no ventilation there. Best look might be to place a big, heavy PC on top of the desk so cables run smoothly. I’d still like to see a big PC hanging underneath the desk for smoother cabling. Try showing some photos on the Kickstarter page to indicate how a fully wired PC looks neat with the desk without hindering the Z movement.

I will totally buy one... Along with a modular gaming table (pretty please with nice sparkly dice on top?)

The desk is very very tempting, it all depends on the dimensions. Specifically the depth. It looks great though.

My highest wow level would be 120, and that was the old cap before the level squish. The level cap right now is currently 60, and I have about 12 level 60 characters. One for each class.

So I don't have the budget for a $2000 desk right now, but if I did, I would be a bit worried about the mount-mounts not holding my monitor if I wanted to put it on an arm, because my monitor is 32lbs without any kind of stand at all, and putting that much weight into that small of an area with the center of gravity that far away from it would make me worry that it would, over time, break the wood. I'd love to see a mounting system that distributed the weight over a larger area so those of us with chonky ultrewides, or triple monitor setups (i.e professional programmers), could attach them without worrying about it snapping off and killing thousands of dollars worth of screen and desk at the same time.
