Lesson 2 Supporting middle management
Workplace culture is how people think, believe, and behave. Every organization, especially legacy organizations, has work cultures that need to be understood to best support staff. This module will explore how to understand your organizational culture and history and repair harm among your staff. Building a relationship with your employees will increase the trust needed for challenging conversations around new directions for the organization. You need to know your staff and their needs to create and implement equitable policies.
David Tulin, President of Tulin DiversiTeam Associates, lists twenty-four possible areas in which substantial gains can be made through a comprehensive diversity and inclusion strategy. These include more effective managers, more motivated employees, increased employee morale, successful teams, less absenteeism at work, fewer lawsuits, saving training costs, improved recruitment and promotion policy, a safer work environment, and more innovative problem-solving. These are only some components of your business case that explain what's in it for your management and organization regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies.
