Moen Cartridge 1225 Replacement Mistakes to AVOID 

Have to use cartridge by the company. Call tech support for the company of the faucet.

Yes...they are key according to moen. the chrome ring dingy.

ya know after thought....I had a valve passing. I cranked on it again and shut er down. Maybe water pressure even though just drip and with cartridge in off position was the cause of me not being able not to drop er down into faucet body...gonna have to go watch vid again.....I thought of this last night.

I actually went back to vid. this job was a lesson to me in itself. all was good and guess what they are about to remodel kitchen. More work...so much work out there. thanks John and as always good eye plumber.

@@ChuckBarron I’m not demeaning ,im laughing out of frustration with you …..I love your videos…WTF causes that. I’ve never seen it b4, u said Moen helped ,professional services, you made mention of a pin or stop with the geese. What additionally was it . I saw you put a reasonable amount of grease on it. Was it grease Moen doesn’t=approve ?

JIm......you say what I thought when I edited that.....I was lucky I did not chip sink.....#5 mistake don't toss tools in cast sink....

or any sink, tub, shower, toilet flooring.......... nothing like fudging up a $500+ item on a $100 quick repair ;)

same problem

leave cartridge alone and pull handle off.....reverse handle only. maybe plumbing is reversed too.....

I had the same problem with the hot and cold being swapped. I fixed it by...Pulling the retaining clip and then used the white plastic tool and rotated the cartridge 180 degrees (did NOT have to remove the cartridge) and then I installed the retaining clip and reassembled. Presto bingo, hot is on the left and cold is on the right (single lever faucet). Good luck!

@@russlum3885 Heres a tip Russ there is an 1/8" hole in the outside end of the Moen cartridge for orientation ,,it always should be pointed up, while installing ,,,then you wont have to mess around swapping hot and cold, you'll get it right the first time.

ok wow....many lessons.....especially the grease thing. Now that I think of it I had that happen before. the handle dropping. the grease will wear off but I tell ya when that happened after the other bs I almost lost my mind...

yeah, don't use aftermarket cartridges, it's usually a bad outcome or doesn't last long

I had this problem too after replacing the 1225 cartridge - you need to replace the black clip that is under the handle - the one that the Phillips head screw goes into. Amazon had the part for mine under 10 bucks. Made my handle work like new again. Search Amazon for Moen 100429.

replace it. may be time.

I had the same question...the Phillips head screw/bolt won’t come out of the top of the handle and just spins.

Man! so close. deeeeeeeeeeeep breath

best to call moen. could be stripped.

By the way, I did not use any grease and I reused the double D washer. Moen is sending new parts but I'm not sure that they will fix the problem.

this was a killer for me too.

The ring made all the difference. I cannot recall. moen got me out of the jam. Good luck. Moen the best

At the 7:32 time you will see Chuck attach a part to the faucet. When I called Moen and told them what was happening with the weight of the handle turning the water flow off they sent me a new one of these parts. I had no confidence that this would help, the old part looked just file. However, the new part did fix the problem.

I tried to sink the ship and it would not sink.

wasn't even planned....just went south by the minute.

ya I used the tin of plumbers grease from supply house. Moen said to use their gear.

there's different grades of "plumbers grease" haven't seen any that isn't silicone based in ages. the difference is the amount of silicone and how long it stays without washing out. whats listed as "plumbers or waterproof (faucet) grease" is usually lower silicone content, washes away more over time, but is NSF and FDA approved... the stuff labeled "silicone (faucet) grease" has higher silicone content and stays around far longer, but it doesn't appear to have approvals ;) I can say one works very well and one not so well, no need to guess which............... EDIT: I take that back, the lowest end grease still is petroleum based (dirty vaseline most likely) which was the other go to grease for many years before.. not good for rubber or synthetic rubbers. so more or less junk now days ;0

also be careful, much of the grease that just says "plumbers grease" may not be for "potable water" at all. guess I've forgotten about it, being I've only used pure silicone plumbing grease for years :O

@@throttlebottle5906 yeah all the stuff ive encountered big box stores when you look into it from oatey etc say contains petroleum or not for potable water maybe that's me looking at the manufacturers websites etc

ahh, never used it, I've always looked for "silicone" they usually have small tubes or containers of silicone for around $3. maybe the lure to the other is the price and I assume larger tube lol make that $4 for 1/2 ounce!

yes..and the wrong grease i put on....i got the right stuff from moen.. also thanks on tip with white block...never knew that until someone else pointed that out. Read instructions? why would i do that.......lol

oh here we go a plumber that has done everything perfect. Thats the point here. Pro's even struggle.....

Most first year apprentices I know can change a moen cartridge blindfolded and one hand tied behind their back !
