The ending was satisfactory and realistic. left no loose ends and didn't try to pull unbelievable horse shit

Well... I think Edgar made the ending so ambiguous in case the movie got greenlighted for a sequel, and he could play off the "it was all a dream" route.

mr_anderson right but that's what made the ending kind of bad. All of the driving scenes were unbelievable and it Was fun. Baby driver is far from reality. They should have kept it that way instead of trying to go real at the end

Yeah. I like the idea that baby get caught instead of pulling of some unrealistic maneuvers but i think they could've executed it better. Still, it's a good move, highly recommended. And yes, I know I'm replying to a 3 yr old comment.

Vezok Neema Yeah, Cr1tickal and the rest of the guys on The Official Podcast (except Jackson) have this thing where an ending could ruin an entire thing for them. The reason they say they hate Mass Effect 3 is purely based on the ending, ignoring that everything up to it was good. Thankfully in this case it did not ruin much for him.

@ElyskeTheDonut
@ElyskeTheDonut 7 лет назад
I liked the ending as well - it basically said, you can't run away forever. He steels himself and gets his punishment. I think they put that real soft ending there so that if it had ended on the bridge, people would've been upset because it was so final, they didnt get the resolution. It also pays off on Baby's character being inherently good, not evil. He doesnt run, he faces his consequences for his actions.
@bythetimeyoufinishedreadin9083
+ElyskeTheDonut If they wanted to portray Baby's character as "good" they could've ended it at the bridge. It would show his sacrifice, and not be this lazy writing. While the action scenes were good and all, the whole romance thing destroyed the entire movie for me. It was just so cliched and pathetic.
@ElyskeTheDonut
@ElyskeTheDonut 7 лет назад
Like I said, they don't end it on the bridge because it leaves too much unsettled. Romance is the drive for him to get out of the business else he would have just continued.

i think if they wanted to they could've cut off the prison thing and just drop it at him getting out of the car and being arrested, coz it was personally the best checkpoint they reached for the end. at the same time maybe an ending where the car the had/the police pull over is like a random car, and they either used a different model of the same car and swapped plates or sold the car, alternatively a smooth escape could've been nice

I really liked the ending even though it did annoy me. It showed how the love between the 2 characters and the way everyone testified was super sweet. Yes the coulda driven off into the sunset but that seems too easy which is what I think made Wright change the anticipated ending to something a bit more.

They could afford that car, and they had a plan: escape. The point of the ending was like showing how everybody that became a victim of his crimes actually reacted in a forgiving manner because although a criminal who steals cars and works with murderers, he had a good heart and people actually noticed that also, by the end I assume they were going to head west in that car that they couldn't afford, that was the whole goal. Also Lily James is fine af and it just gave me 15 more minutes to gaze upon her beauty.
@max81261
@max81261 3 года назад
Good analysis. I’d add that the point of the ending is first and foremost to show the main character owning up to his mistakes and fully accepting the consequences for them. As someone with tinnitus I see a connection here that escaped most people, in that resisting the ringing sound or trying to cover it or run from it isn’t the way, it’s all futile in the end. It will only ever grow stronger and eventually it will catch you whatever you do. So the one thing you can do is to stop running and start accepting it as a constant in your life, and only when you’ve done that will your perception of it be diminished, and after a while it won’t feel so crushingly bad anymore. You could live normally, happily even, like Baby ends up doing. Had ringing for the past 7 or so years (gonna stop counting at some point) and this ending hit me like a truck. It’s such a perfect metaphor it cannot have been by accident, this ending was exactly the way it was meant to be. Hopefully someone lets Charlie know about this at some point because he couldn’t be more wrong on this one.

For those saying, "The ending was great, to each their own I guess." I think you're confusing the ending of Baby Driver with the *idea* for the ending. When I read the screenplay and it says,"Baby sacrifices his freedom after narrowly escaping foes for the entire movie, for the purpose of sparing Debra, whom shared a dream of newly found freedom", it sounds great. It sounds remorseful. It sounds... Heavy. But, as Charlie said in the video, it dragged on. The Antagonist (Kevin Spacey) turned into a good guy, which could've lead the story into a new direction. It built up to that moment for 88% of the movie's run time. How long was he a good guy before immediately being killed and replaced by another bad guy? 43 seconds. And who was the antagonist replaced by? A bad guy who was once a "good guy" (I say good guy because he was the only robber who defended Baby, besides Spacey, when others attacked him verbally). And not only was he once a good guy, but there is absolutely *NO REASON* he would be upset at Baby. In the movie, he claims it's his fault that Darling died. Like wut m8, Baby KILLS Jamie Fox (something Darling asked the new antagonist to do), and the two just get out of the car because the car breaks in the process. THEN, they *GET BACK IN BABY'S CAR*. Willingly. Darling gets out and for no reason goes duel wield rambo on them there copperionos, obviously gets butchered because neither UMP she had contained a military grade compensator shooting compressed air to counter recoil from 25 meters, and come-over man who played in that one movie with Zac Gaflinukis is bad man now mommy. So, 15 minutes are now wasted where bad man mysteriously uses Baby as an anger scapegoat, which changes nothing in the movie for Baby, other than killing Kevin Spacey who could've died in numerous other ways in order to prove he was a good guy all along with morals and fondness of Baby. Then, bad man dies in a "oh no is he gunna getz da baby oops he fell of building welp guess baby is free" kinda way. 10 more minutes are wasted where Baby goes to jail. The reason? So they can have a 25 second scene where the courtroom can say "yo babiez a gud mayne, he gave me da purse back", as if you need random-ass citizens telling you how he's the good guy. This shortens his sentence of Double Murder/heisting to 5 years then parole, because the writers were like "oh sheit if we make it an actual sentence den we have to pay for makeup and can't make sequal where he still baby, it be oldy driver starring with morgan freeman and that british dude who plays himself in every movie and also a bat man movie". This removes any "heavy feeling" that the movie built up to when he did that badass "key off the bridge super flick fancy foley sacrifice me self to get that puss later bae" moment. Honestly, set it up so Baby has to break out of jail. Set it up so Spacey doesn't get ran over and is alive and helps him break out, making Baby further into debt. Set it up so that Baby and Debra have marital issues and get divorced and she gets the actual baby and Baby starts to go by the name Miles and stars in Season 5/6 of Lost as an asian man who can see how people died because literally anything could've made me enjoy that ending more.

Couch Camping I think you're trying to nail the characters into an archetype way too much. Both Doc and Buddy were extremely morally ambiguous characters, and neither was ever starkly a "bad guy" or a "good guy". The only really chaotic character in the whole thing was Bats. If you're looking at it through such a stark lens, it's no wonder you see the ending as so unsatisfying. I would have been more angry if there was some generic angsty "ur not done yet !!!" one like you suggested, that seems like WAY more of a shitty opening for an exact replica of this except ass. Not everything has to end unhappily. The story was told and it closed, the end.

I stopped reading after you went on the weird tangent about Darling not have compensators (as if that would have made double fisting UMPs make more sense) but Baby absolutely did get Darling killed. Yes it was partially her fault but he killed Bats in the middle of a heist which forced them to escape on foot and then crashed into their car and drew attention to them again. From Buddy's perspective Baby is absolutely responsible, it would have made far less sense if he hadn't tried to get revenge.

awe man I love the ending it might not satisfy you like it failed to for Charlie but for you guys who want a reasonable end that wraps itself to definite end to the story in a market where every ending is a cliff hanger it's good to see something wrap up. this might be a bit of a spoiler but if you watched Archer it shouldn't be surprising but this kids tinnitus will get worse by the end and that coupled with where he is at the very end of the movie was actually pretty damn satisfying

It's a slow burn, AFTER the opening sequence which is awesome and straight into the action.

I honestly thought that, for happy ending standards, it was a good ending. Not too cheesy and certainly very much realistic.

I'm not a movie connoisseur , so I don't think you should bother wasting your breath debating me, but this is the best movie I have ever watched. I've never been so immersed in the world and cared so much about the characters, and I loved having a silly grin on my face half the time from the one-liners and slick action sequences. Again, I'm not super big on movies, so I don't remember much from most of the ones I watch even if they were good, but this one was just very special and memorable.

It was a good movie. To me it is overrated and I don’t know why people are frothing all over it. All I can say is that the ending was so bad it ruined it for me. Up to that point I enjoyed it.

I think the movie itself should have ended with Baby and Debora riding away from the parking garage where Buddy died, and then the credits should have rolled over the rest. It was a nice way to resolve the story with Baby going to jail and not bringing Debora into the whole mess he had helped create, but it wasn't really necessary or crucial to the plot of the movie. So by putting the credits over it and removing the audio (apart from the music) it would have been a nice way to show what happened next while still leaving a little bit for the audience to imagine themselves.
