A very nice ensemble, fronted by the amazing Ms. Tuttle who grew up less than 20 miles from where I sit writing this. I gotta say the immensely talented and dedicated crop of young artists devoting themselves to acoustic music of all kinds is a bright spot in an often tumultuous world.
Oh she's so good - they all are - that'd be worth making it down to Tennessee. How consistently good is MCR - the talent featured is always rewarding. Siri - point me to Franklin!
Molly's music, playing, singing, and smile is what the world needs right now. Can't help but feel like there is still good in the world. What a beautiful talent. A true gift.
Sorry steam loco you don’t have to be the total Tommy Emanuel virtuoso to bring joy to the world and Molly does just that. As a guitarist of 50 years (I started late) I am in awe of Tommy but Molly brings me more simple joy.
Molly is her typical superb self in this, both with her as-usual perfect vocal (her relaxed feathery quality with a hint of vibrato is perfect to tell the story in this lyric), and that insane yet effortless picking puts her out in front of most artists today! They're all at the top of their game here. Missy Raines is in the pocket on bass. Wes Corbett is an impressive virtuoso on that banjo! John Mailander is just right, especially on his solo, keeping all the favorite classic parts of the fiddle in the Campbell recording. Well done, guys!
Saw John Hartford solo with just his banjo, fiddle and a sheet of plywood on which he tapped out the rhythm. He said he was grateful to Glen Campbell for all the royalties that allowed him to afford such an elaborate stage set.
Years ago I first became aware of john...I had obviously heard this song, but didnt know who John hartford was.... I bought a VHS banjo instructional taught by this cat named john hartford...in the pack with the VHS, was this paper foldout that you layed out on the floor...it was like a twister game for your feet only....didnt make no sense till I started watching the video...you could learn to tap out rhythm with john.....good times.....heaven became bonafide when john strolled thru those pearly gates....
Somebody needs to give the Bass player some props. People don't realize how essential it is to have that clean, crisp beat laid down exactly 'in the pocket', and this woman is spot on. Kudos from a fellow Bass player! ...Oh yeah, and everyone else is kinda nice too lol. This is a great performance all round.
A few folks have commented on the bass player. She is Missy Raines 8 International Bluegrass Music Award winner for Bass Player of the year. Of course the whole band and Molly sound awesome!
Strong, clear, individual voice; amazing clawhammer fingers; winning smile; and I suspect a deep personality (personal strength from her life experience, just guessing here of course, but I sense it). She's the real deal.
This would make Glenn Campbell, so happy , my brother brought his friend from college & he taught me to play this , I was in 7th grade , I'm 70 years old now , thank you so much , moe
It's not a Glen Campbell cover; it's a John Hartford cover. Glen Campbell recorded it and it became a big, big hit. John Hartford made a boatload of money, was forever grateful to Glen and he moved back to his native Applaciahia where he could record and sing the song he wanted to sing. RIP John!
+Steve Roberts Wow, I just saw your post, I didn't know John had passed, and 15 years ago! So sad, but his song lives on. God bless you, John Hartford.
Just recently started listening to Molly and I'm really enjoying her style and sound. She's got great chops on guitar, banjo as well as vocally. I hope her career really takes off, because I think she deserves it
Ok. Let's see. Tommy Emmanuel. Then Tommy Emmanuel and Billy Strings. Then Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle. And finally Molly Tuttle. I love RU-vid ! Greatings from France.
I've listen this song a lot when i traveled to London, and now every time i listen to it, it makes me remember my beautiful travel. Its such a great performance. If you see this, keep on Molly !
It's knowing that your door is always open And your path is free to walk That makes me tend to leave my sleeping bag Rolled up and stashed behind your couch And it's knowing I'm not shackled By forgotten words and bonds And the ink stains that are dried upon some line That keeps you in the backroads By the rivers of my memory That keeps you ever gentle on my mind It's not clinging to the rocks and ivy Planted on their columns now that bind me Or something that somebody said Because they thought we fit together walking It's just knowing that the world will not be cursing Or forgiving when I walk along some railroad track and find That you're moving on the backroads By the rivers of my memory And for hours you're just gentle on my mind Though the wheat fields and the clothes lines And the junkyards and the highways come between us And some other woman's cryin' to her mother 'Cause she turned and I was gone I still might run in silence tears of joy might stain my face And the summer sun might burn me 'til I'm blind But not to where I cannot see you walkin' on the backroads By the rivers flowing gentle on my mind I dip my cup of soup back from a gurglin' Cracklin' caldron in some train yard My beard a rustling, cold towel, and A dirty hat pulled low across my face Through cupped hands 'round the tin can I pretend to hold you to my breast and find That you're waiting from the backroads By the rivers of my memories Ever smilin' ever gentle on my mind
I'm definitely not into Country music but Gentle on my mind is one of my favourite songs. Never heard anything about Molly Tuttle. But I like this version. nice voice, very good guitar playing. thumbs Up!
Holy smokes. This is such a tight beautiful rendition of a great, great song. Molly Tuttle has a clean and clear voice and really excellent musicianship all around. I bet I've watched this 15 times in the last week. Damn what a good song!
Molly does such a superb job on this John Hartford classic. While her guitar picking is perfection, as a singer and performer I'm amazed at her memory of all these lyrics that flow like water over steep falls - and, she obviously isn't reading off a teleprompter. Amazing!
Well, all her pronounciations intonations inclanations are precise, charming just like a baby girl to her father - meanwhile like a disciplined lover woman playing the guitar..Simple Melting my hearth! :)
Jim Whitted Molly is a unbelievable talent, but this is one song she butchered. It doesn’t change how talented she is, or how I feel about her. When she has a concert in my neck of the woods, I will be there.
I’ve had this video stored on my phone all these years and this is one of the best renditions I’ve heard, I have played it so many times. Molly is absolutely amazing as are the other members of the group. I’m an old guy, 74. And a huge Glen Campbell fan since high school.
Awesome performance! I just wish the film editor here didn't constantly cut to different camera angles and scenes every freakin' 3 seconds! It was enough to give someone whiplash.
Lovely version of this classic by a woman with a beautiful voice. If she could have had Glen Campbell do the guitar solo this song would have been perfect.
Magic Molly........just magnificent.......what great musicians.....to you 105 thumbs down egotists......you have no souls......hope you find them soon...........thanks Molly......🇦🇺
GOOD Gosh-really!!! It's how many years since television has recorded musical performances and they still treat t like a playground for camera angles.... i'm dizzy.
I will admit I'm not the biggest fan of bluegrass. But this is still one of the greatest music videos on RU-vid for me.. so much melody, musicianship, and virtuosity in this rendition, it moves me to my core every time..
The song, Gentle On My Mind, June 19, 1967, sung by Glen Campbell and written by John Hartford, is often interpreted, but your interpretation is the best of all. Your voice fits in really well with the song. Thank you, that you share with such a beautiful voice, such a great song, with us all.
She reminds me of Nanci too though I can't place why. My dad loved Nanci, I know he'd have thought Molly was fantastic too. I always think of him when I listen to her and am grateful for the musical education he gave me :)
Whilst everyone was more than able to sustain this pace I would have preferred a little more time to reflect on the lyrics and thus a slightly slower tempo. Despite my singular reservation I think this is playing and singing as I like it best. I watched it through at 75% playback speed - that's too slow but it shows how incredibly tight the timing of all these musicians is in this performance. What an excellent band!
The sound mix could have been a little more focused on MT when she soloed...if Music City Roots still have the multi-track master - please re-mix and lift Molly's solos up. Great performance all round - and Molly, well she's a gem.
