Now I don't feel so bad about telling my boys that the ice cream truck was playing music for nap time.

Put them all in a treasure trunk of random toys like that & tell them Ronald McDonald mailed all the happy meal toys separately so the Hamburglar wouldn't steal them. This way there are lots to choose from and maybe even doubles. Treasure chest has a 1hr (or whatever) limit so it can "recharge." Fighting makes its batteries run out faster.

Mom shame confession: first mistake ...got my 10 year old daughter a “rat terrier puppy” , for a year we tried training (all the right things ) . She stopped taking care of him bc it was too hard to be around him (he would nip and bite and jump ) A construction worker at my house really bonded with him and fell in love and terrier fell in love with him . I felt like it was best for dog to be with someone who could handle him and he was thrilled to get dog ... it took an entire day for her to realize the dog was missing . I felt horrible but continued with the lie when she called me and told me that the dog had been stolen and that she had gathered evidence to take to police . I even drove around with her for weeks looking for dog . My oldest daughter and a few others were sworn to secrecy (all agreed beat for dog ) . I felt terrible and guilty for keeping the lie . Sooooo, 3 years later , I got her a Great Dane English mastiff mix puppy. While taking our first trip to pet store (puppy in arms ) I chose to unburden myself to her with the truth . She also confessed that she was actually relieved when the doggy was never found . We had settled in on the dog being with someone who really really loved him . (Audrey Hepburn) aka Audi gave her 13 years of nothing but the best love and friendship and smothering (weighed 186 at top weight😮) . I still catch absolute shit at family gatherings. Fair price to pay .

When they find out you just blame McDonalds and act like you had no idea either. They've gotten our order wrong those WHOLE TIME?!?!?!?

Brilliant. I loved the pj bottoms over the shoulders😂 I also hate the happy meal toys. They drive me nuts but after a week of sitting unplayed with, I put them in the bin. We prefer to get the book option and then I put them in the car for journeys. They also sometimes do a mini game which is also useful for car journeys.

This was hilarious and relatable... I don't even buy happy meals for my daughter.(almost 3) I just get a single cheeseburger and a water cup for her. She doesn't even know that the "happy meal" exsists yet. We tried once and she didn't like the fries, milk, or apple slices. So this is much cheaper for me since it's about $5 for a happy meal these days. Lol. One day when she figures it out she can have one. Hahaha

This series makes me so happy. My mom was very mentally unwell and was an -lcoholic, my dad was working often because he was trying to catch up to something we already outran. My siblings and I inherited all of their unhealed hurt, plus our own reactions and responses. It was chaos. This reminds me that people care. That my family cares and that we are trying. That I can be this way for myself and teach myself how to heal my hurt, how to show love, show everything that everyone means to me, including myself. It's taught me how to care for myself more. This was fantastic. I'm lucky enough to have what we call 'The Bins' here, which is where all the unsold Goodwill stuff goes to die. Mine didn't even know happy meals existed for a long time because we could go to the bins and get anything they could find (that was not a sad broken McDonalds toy on its way to last rites) for pennies based on weight. Some of the stuff we found was miraculously cool and cost less than the whole happy meal. That and a $1 cheese burger and we were golden!

There was a McDonald's near my home that was on a slope so the drive through was on a lower level. The drive through food would be placed on a conveyor belt and there was even a window on the outside that you could see the bags of food take their little ride down to the cars. One day I was standing by the counter watching the conveyor belt and the employee asked if I wanted to put the food on myself! They handed me the bag and I placed it on and it was great! I really hope they didn't get in trouble for letting a kid touch another customer's order and behind the counter, but that was a very special day.

My kids are "to old" for happy meals (only because they each could eat a whole dang cow) but when they see a featured toy they want all of a sudden they want one then get upset because they're still hungry. I've tried to tell them I can get the toy separately but you know kids gotta do it the hard way.

I to take the toys out but I save them for stuff like Easter baskets Valentine's buckets things like that that way I don't have to go and buy the cheaper generic holiday toys so I guess it's a win-win

My sister used them in a giant treasure box that the kids could go into and choose their reward, when they were good or achieved certain milestones. My girls and her boys and all of the neighborhood children LOVED THAT DAMN TREASURE CHEST!! (I might a been a tad envious😂)

It's a fast food CHAOS LUNCH! Instead of dumping food into a lunchbox, it goes into the Happy Meal box.

Its the Happy Meal tax. My brother and I had to pay a "candy tax" when we brought candy homes, especially on Halloween. My kids payed an "Ice Cream tax" only 1 of the 4 of them figured out that DQ ice cream cones came when a swirl at the top. I am enjoying watching my kids get creative with teaching their kids about taxes.

No shame. Keep for Christmas stockings or donate to atoy drive. Just a thought.

I’m 29 and I just now realized the ‘happy’ in ‘happy meal’ was referring to the TOY. I deadass thought it was the name of the meal combo. Like Starbucks sizes. Like Family deal, party deal, great deal, happy meal.

My oldest had no idea that Happy Meals came with toys until he was 5 and my sister's kid's told him. He was mad, but at 27 and with a kid of his own, he now understands why I was not forthcoming on this meal bonus item. It wasn't the toy that made it a Happy Meal. It was all that you had stated above. Going was the special part, not the toy.

Glad they now give a chose of a toy or a book now. I always get the books :)

That was great lol. As an adult I still love happy meals (mainly for the apples) but the toys now suck. They used to as least do something. Like drive or I had some that could do a flip. Just something. Now they are just pieces of plastic and borning. It's stupid. (But if they are cute then I like them lol)

We get happy meals on occasion but we take the toys out 99% of the time! We let them keep the beanie babies.

Gwenna have you considered about just ordering the items individually. A ordering just regular nugget meals with small fries and get chocolate milk for the drink and add a bag of apples for for both kids. Then you don’t have to even bring the words happy meal into the universe.

What makes a Happy Meal happy is that mom and dad can afford the joy of feeding kiddos a fast food meal. Parents are doing just fine with no toy........

We use to tell our kids water towers were Bad Babie Towers. It was meant as a joke. It kinda evolved. They were pissed when they found out BUT were quiet in roadtrips without electronics for years.

Hey, if you got kiddos that don't love to finish their food, a happy meal toy is a great tool. Our rule was always, you get the toy when you finish the food.

My oldest son just doesn't care for the toys. He just wants food and my youngest loves the toy. So all in all. I don't have to worry now about it. 😅

I don't get my kids happy meals anymore because its just not cost efficient. It's cheaper to get them a 20pc mcnugget to share, and ordering fries and burgers along side. They would enjoy the happy meal toy for 5 minutes and then forget it completely. They never complained after I dropped the happy meals because it meant more food add ons. 😋

My daughter is 9, and because of the way I’d parented her (being more of a friend than a mom) I’m now in a situation where she not only doesn’t listen to me but she’s also blatantly disrespectful and I mean it’s horrible

How do they not already know though? Like there are giant displays at every McDonald's of the toys avalible. Also they're really terrible toys and kids usually get bored of them faster than they can even finish eating anyway. And I did fight with my brother over happy meal toys and even at the time I had no idea why were fighting when we both had the same toy but my brother has learning disabilities and even though he's 5 years older he still couldn't understand they were both exactly the same... except for one time they for some reason packed in a Cabage Patch Doll intended for a little girl into his happy meal and instead of going to the counter to exchange it we traded toys then I went to the counter to exchange it.
