Your kids are begging for a toy they saw on RU-vid. They can tell you every
cool thing it does and how amazing it will be to play with it. But what you REALLY need to know is if you're going to have to don battle gear to get it out of the box, how many hours you'll have to dedicate to setting it up, and if the thing ever shuts up.
Enter: How Much Will I Hate This? Honest Mom Reviews of the stuff your kid is begging for. I'm going to give you the answers you actually need.

That's the best thing I've heard all day! It sucks too because when they're little the toys are loud and then they turn into teenagers and upgrade the toys to instruments! They're more expensive and even louder! Can you tell I have a 16 year old who plays the acoustic and electric guitar? LOL now he has the nerve to ask if he can join his friends band and they want to use our house as their practice room since he's an only child and we have an extra bedroom! Not to mention he also has a loud 4 wheeler and asked for a go cart and a truck for Christmas! I ain't got that kinda money or the patience for all that either LOL 😂🤣😂

Pro Tip from someone that grew up surrounded by younger cousins and deals with migraines - before you give any toy with audio, take a piece of super clear tape like packing tape (I prefer desk tape like Scotch - the fully clear kind as it's slightly thinner) and put a piece of it across the speaker holes covering all of them. Test the sound, you can use a bobby pin to pop open one hole at a time or a portion of slits, whatever it has if you find the audio is too quiet, but usually you don't have to make any adjustment other than adding tape because of the absurd high volume of all kids toys. The kid won't know the difference, you won't be annoyed three rooms away and bonus it helps kids keep their own volume down by not being blasted by noise or having to yell over it. Ya welcome. ✊️

Or, if you're feeling a bit froggier, I like to open them up and splice a resistor into the line going to the speaker. You can get variety packs with different Ohms of resistance--find one that works for you. You can just cut the wire, strip the ends, and twist them on either side of the resistor, but I like to do a quick solder job so it won't corrode/fall apart later. Sometimes the speaker is so damned loud, covering the vent does little. My wife gave my kids a toy gun one year for Easter, that they grabbed first thing in the morning, and it was so fuckin' loud, I woke up, dove to the floor, and started frantically looking for my rifle before I realized where I was.

Yup, figured this out about 2 weeks into owning a noisy toy. I have also used Elmer's glue in sounds holes then applied tape when the tape itself was not barrier enough. On the Bendi talking microscope: as a child we really enjoyed making our own slides from the world around us. Exploring, noticing things and finding things to look at under the microscope. That was the main fun of it! Unfortunately, the main component here is lost by having only slides that are already filled with samples and none that aren’t. My son had a Smithsonian one for about $20 from Target. It was SO MUCH more realistic and full of features than this one. You could adjust the microscope to peer deeper and deeper into an unknown universe of everyday life. My brother and I had so much fun with our little microscope even though it wasn’t as advanced as my son’s. Looking at drops of rainwater or tap water, or algae from the pond and pond water, the wing of a butterfly we found, pricking a finger for a tiny drop of blood, or a booger, or the stem of a flower, clay or mud, basically everything that makes it fun and a toy to compel your kids to explore their world, through a microscopic lens, noticing tiny things they might have taken for granted. With this microscope you get none of that. It defeats the purpose. We all love Bindi, but... I guess from seeing how far these toys have come in thirty years, and now 13 since my son was born, I was expecting much more. Like something really high tech, where the AI in the microscope (In Bindi Irving’s voice) was able to identify what you placed under your microscope and tell your kids about it. Apps can identify species of animals and plants - so why not do something like that with a microscope and a way to upload photos of whatever your samples are from?? It could reference the internet through your phone, to find matches to the samples and provide facts on each one and maybe tell cheesy jokes about nature. Even simple things, (maybe not identify a type of sand composition but simply give some facts about it like, ‘Look how sharp or round the particles are!’ Or, for say a moth wing she might give random facts about how they fly, or why light disorients moths who use it for sense of direction, they aren’t simply drawn to flames or lights... something like that. Even if it had slides you can fill and examine without her talking, your child could explore on his own and you could at least have an educational conversation with your kids... or maybe I just need to design this?? The point is to inspire, engaging them in the unseen world right in their back garden and to give them an enhanced appreciation of all that depends on our roles to heal the earth 🌍 This microscope doesn’t even outrank the one my brother and I had as children.

Just a suggestion if you want to make it shut up. Once the kids have played with it enough to have gone through all the slides and info Bindi wants to tell them about, one night after the kids are in bed, take the microscope and unscrew the bottom (I don’t know if it unscrews but most of these types of things do,) then just snip the wires for the speaker. Presto you have the light still working when it is on and the speaker no longer screams at you in her little kid bossy voice. When the kids discover this, you can act as surprised as they are that the speaker broke and they will lay with just the microscope part of it going forward. After 4 kids, I have disconnected many speakers over the years from noisy toys that had other functions, or that I absolutely hated. Oops, it’s broken, but you can still play with these features. Although for the price,a normal kids microscope that is on the sturdy side that lights using a mirror and light source and that has blank slides the kids can put stuff on themselves is actually better in the long run. I had one of those types from the time I was 5 years old as a kid, I spent many hours as a kid looking at all sorts of stuff through it. Pretty sure my younger brother ended up with it and that my parents still had it 35 years later. Lol
@Heather-xm9ul

It was cool to see how their “guessed “ pics” changed as they realized how different items looked using the microscope. I really miss those days!

This is a great idea!! I have the same thoughts whenever my small one wants something...luckily this year he really only wants a walkman(he's 8) and some mixed cassette tapes to play in it....the issue with that will be finding the tapes and filling them with his favorite songs...please do more toys though! This was very enjoyable as always

Best ever.....my kiddos would say mind your business and we know already Bindi. Mute is precious. They would just keep doing it to piss me off

The best part of the review is the honesty of having to get up and get 10 extra times to things to get it to work. As a mom of 5 I definitely have done my ups and downs.

I love how it’s advertised as a talking microscope…and there’s anger about it actually talking to you. Hehe.

This is insanely useful. Thank you. My son is pretty oppositional, I can already imagine his “NO,” whenever Bindi bosses him around.

Im not a mom but im 23 and reliving my inner childhood buying and collecting some cool toys I wished I'd had, I'd love to see your review on maybe Rainbow High dolls? Calico Critters & playsets!! I love your channel, and videos! You're awesome! Much love!

Walmart has knock off calico critters known as honeybee acres that are great. Rainbow high dolls are okay, but there’s some ethical questions as they rip off clothing designers

My younger (by 12 years, for context) sibling had lots of noisy toys and a tablet loaded with lots of noisy games. I always wish toys like these gad mute or a headphone jack so the rest of the world could keep its sanity. It wasn’t never pleasant to be doing homework than to hear a fisher price guitar go off every five minutes. When I was allowed to drive places with them after I got my license, the rule in my car was wear headphones, turn off the sound, or listen to what I turn on. For the record we would agree on a music/ Audiobook/ podcast for kids before we leave. I gave one warning and then I would pull off into a parking lot and take the noisy thing away for the rest of the drive. We would then try again the next time we got in my car to go home or whatever. I would take it away as I got distracted easily by random sounds and lights that made me feel unsafe driving. Their parents and I agreed on the rules and my sibling and I would remind of the rules and choose music before leaving.
