If I was to boil down the things I am MOST inspired by in a photograph, it would be Moment, Movement, and energy. In this video I talk about the elements that give images these three important components and their effect on the feel of a photograph

I saw in a recent video that you are experiencing back pain problems that have required you to abandon a revenue-producing workshop. With that source of income being compromised, I notice that you have released four videos in the last week. I have great sympathy for your medical and financial issues. But it certainly is a boon to those of us who appreciate your videos. I am loving the increased "content".

When a photographer thinks about what photography should be. What a lesson. Thank you Nick.

I watch quite a few photography youtubers and while I enjoy and learn from many of them you've got a way of explaining things that seems to resonate more than others. This video in particular was especially powerful. I found myself nodding and agreeing throughout. Thanks for your efforts!

Freezing moments in time is one of my favourite ways to describe photography...no two moments can ever be the same even if they look it...photos capture and store that moment. :)

Love this. You've articulated it perfectly and the images back up everything you say. That sense of moment is the difference between a good photo and a great one. I've never quite put my finger on it before - and in less than 5 minutes you've blown my mind!

Such an inspirational concept. As photographers we all know the concept of the “decisive” moment, but thank you Nick for showing this concept in a way we can all understand. Masterful share.

Dam Nick you nailit two hundred percent And it's like you read a photographic poem and it says everything about how you take your pictures and why you photograph the way you do. Others would ramble on about different components and talk for half an hour. While in a poetic way you explained everything in less than 5 minutes, but you still got everything about what photography is all about.

Absolutely inspiring. Your words are almost as moving and magical as your images. I’ve had to watch it again and again-you shared the photos so quickly-but that’s good. Delightful to view at my own pace. I’ve examined my own work and find the same holds true as you most articulately and eloquently described. Your words I take as a generous personal lesson, and I extend my sincerest gratitude for your magnanimous gift. Many thanks. Curt

Awesome thanks nick. I love your style and the way you understand your own approach to landscape photography. I think I need to investigate what makes me excited about photography and then be able to take out some of the hit and miss of my photographs. I hope you are getting to a point of control with your back pain. My wife has suffered for years and she's learned to manage it. It needn't be a show stopper. I wish you the very best not least because you've given so much great tuition and advice, but because you've given so much of it for free, and you deserve a break, 👍👍 Thank you

Thanks for posting this, Nick. I think I am the same type of photographer in that I tend to look for those fleeting moments that are there and gone. I think this is what I was trying to convey to Matt Payne last year on his podcast. I am definitely drawn more to weather, the coast and scenes where the light is changing or coming in at a unique angle rather than intimates in my search for those fragile moments. I am drawn to scenes where something is clearly going on (fantastic light, a clearing storm) rather than trying to come up with mind blowing patterns and textures like Guy Tal. At the end of the day, we need to shoot what we are drawn to. It's great to see more content from you! I hope you are feeling better!

Despite my love for tornadoes and big beautiful supercells, lightning specifically is my favorite thing to photograph. The energy is so high and the moment is so infinitesimal, when the composition and exposure come out just right its the ultimate feeling of success for me.

One idea that came up while viewing some of your pics was how some would look cool with a time lapse. Add a bunch of different scenes all stitched together to make a short video with an epic soundtrack. Just a thought. Keep up the great shooting! Great stuff.
