Great tips! My kids and I moved from FL to TN last July and got a rude awakening when we got 12" of snow in December. We had coats, but not much else. I had to order hats and gloves on Amazon for the kids to wear to school. Then the snow melted and turned into sheets of ice so I couldn't leave the house for like 9 days because I have no idea how to drive in snow/ice. I didn't want to be the idiot that slid into the ditch trying to go to Publix for snacks. We played a game of "What can we make with the ingredients we already have?" 😆 My son was so upset that I wouldn't go to the store. He didn't understand that I couldn't go to the store if I wanted to. Going to start getting ready for winter early this year.

Just drive like normal, don't slam on your brakes but don't drive so slow that you become a hazard. Make sure your tires are all weather. It isn't difficult. You will be fine, allow extra braking space/time. I lived in Utah and now Wyoming they do not salt the roads here so it is icy. I wish you luck on this new adventure.

Got warm clothers with layers and blankets; extra socks and underwear; got fireplace and wood ready, got blinds in most of the rooms that are insulated; 1 generator, portable solar panels and inverters for electricity. Also have backups for those (fireplace, homepoured candles, MANY blankets,). Need some bandages and bandaids for the animals and me. Got a natural spring and purifiers. When it gets cold (in Texas - we did have 2021), I have enough food and supplies to just stay home. February of 2021 taught a bunch of us in east Texas what we were missing. Luckily I was able to make do with what I had - then bought a generator, inverters, etc. after we thawed out! I did write down a couple of things I need to check. Great list!

I'm a 'young' Boomer, and it's all the canning knowledge and meals in our head that set us apart - listening to Depression parents. I have my Grandmother AND Grandfather's favorite recipes from the Depression (coal mining area) era, and I still make them. We are not old - not with beating off 120+ pound female goats who think they should eat chicken food or having 4 month old puppy who weigh 45 pounds. We may be a little crazy, but WE KNOW THINGS!😅 I love the fleece blanket on top of the bottom sheet: very soft, warm, and fuzzy.

I wouldn’t want a freeze dryer either, friend bought one, that thing is loud, and your right took her forever to do chicken. You are so funny Leisa, great tip on the electric blanket under the sheets, going to tell my mom that one, she’s 88 and always cold.

I’m always thinking of getting ready for winter. My sister laughed bc I want another cord of wood, and it’s 95 degrees today. I got a feeling they will pull the plug on our grid, and I can’t get cold…it’s so painful to me. So I got all sorts of stuff that will keep me warm if we loose electricity. We just had new tires put on my SUV ($1000! 😮). Our generator is dual fuel; propane and gas. should be in pretty good shape. Of course there are always extra that need done.

If the power goes out for an extended time Im set up for moving into my walk in closet. It's small and can be heated up quick without using alot of energy. Yep, I will drag the twin bed in there with my plug in heater plugged into my power bank. My kitty and I will be warm and toasty. I do have a 1/2 cord of wood but I think it is home to all kinds of critters. lol. I would use it if I had to. I also have an Electrowarmth mattress pad that uses next to no power from my power bank, works really good. Its used by truckers and campers.

I have a list for Black Friday. I add items all year long. Waiting to buy an item allows me to know what a product costs, to discover 'if' I really need/want it and when I should pull the trigger and buy even if its not on Black Friday. Sadly, there are 2 items on that list that Im pretty sure I still wont be getting even on Black Friday. Im patient and will wait for a good deal or I wont buy it.

I'm just now getting to watch. I HAVE A QUESTION. WE MOVED INTO A NEW HOME. WE MOVED OUR RHUBARB, THEN PLANTED SOME BLUEBERRIES, THEN ONIONS, CARROTS N SPINACH. WE THOUGHT ALL IS GOOD FOR THEIR LOCATION. ALMOST EVERYTHING STARTED OUT GOOD, NOW ITS STARTING TO DIE IM THINKING THE PREVIOUS OWNERS SPRAYED SOMETHING? SO NOW FOR THE QUESTION, I NEED TO MOVE THE RHUBARB, BUT ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO GET WHATEVER IS NOW IN IT OUT. I'll get every bit of dirt off but any ideas?

Yes, you can can thawed out HB or any other frozen meats(most). This is how my twin sister and I make room in the full freezer when we stumble on "too good of a deal to pass up".
