Imagine becoming so strong that there was no longer any need to justify your wars since you were destined to rule the world and the only acceptable diplomacy was to become subject or a rebel. That is an insane self-fulfilling prophecy.

Today is Chinggis Khan’s birthday, an official holiday in Mongolia.

In many ways this is very similar to most other Imperial Ideologies which just goes to show how material circumstances influence cultural identity. The Romans deified the emperors and believed they had an inherent right to rule the world and later Christianity led them to believe that their Empire was sacred and chosen by God to conquer the entire world, this belief would live on in the Byzantine Empire. The Arab Caliphate would also slowly develop the same ideas that they were chosen by God to conquer the world and spread Islam to all of the world and therefore war against anyone not already Muslim was justified. The Chinese Empire of course also believed that they had the divine Mandate of Heaven which made them the only legitimate rulers of the world and would demand tribute from far flung lands. The Aztecs believed that they had to continue conquering in order to satisfy their gods and anyone who resisted should be sacrificed to their gods. All of the European colonial empires justified their imperialism on the basis of religion saying that they had a divine mission to spread Christianity and would later start to believe in the idea of a semi-holy "Mission to Civilize" which of course meant to conquer and assimilate as much of the world as possible since specifically their culture was the only civilized one and chosen by God based on national myths. These days outright aggressive imperialist ideology which simply asserts that the country has an inherent right to invade is much less popular, but you do see countries often claiming a more secular right to aggressive actions such as the American idea of spreading democracy, which can justify aggression against seemingly any country regardless of how democratic it is or how often the US actually does create democracies, China seeming to re-assert old claims but now based on a more secular idea of China as a destined world power and most recently Russia in Ukraine which comes from an idea of sovereignty over all Slavic people. Imperial ideologies are fairly predictable because they all result from similar needs and similar circumstances. If a country suddenly gains an enormous amount of power that will always lead people to conclude that said country was always destined to do this and the conquests that result from this must be justified so it is claimed as some sort of inherent right of the only legitimate power on Earth. On the surface they might appear very different but they all tend to converge among similar lines even if it might nave a non-imperialist or even anti-imperialist basis, as you could argue was the case for the US and China who both did at first legitimately support the dissolution of other empires.

Let it be remembered, that Temujin (Chinggis), only wanted to live a peaceful life with his family. However, the world didn't let him, constantly having to fight off bandits, and enemie clans wanting to oust him, and not to mention, kidnapp his wife, which they succefully did. The man had to hide away in the forest for many years of his life and live on the run, while dealing with wife and children of his own. And having been born into family rivalry, rumored to been forced to kill his very own brother over scraps of food, while they suffered hardship after being exiled from their clan when their father died. After succesfully rescuing his wife. I guess the Temujin had enough, realizing that nomatter how much you try to avoid conflict. Conflict will find you. So the only way one can be sure to be able to keep a peacefull life in the steppes was to bring the Conflict to them! A simple man, who wanted to live a simple life, ending up creating the largest empire the world has ever seen. If anything, his world conquest didn't start before he was a Middle aged man of the era. (He was within his 30's or so if I'm not mistaken). If anything is to give you inspiration but you feel to old to do certain stuff, or begin to learn something new. Remember, Chinggis Khan conquered majority of the world in his 30's. @Kings and Generals ever considering making a dedicated video covering all of Temujins life? From the legends and rumors to the ones documented in records? It's definitely one of those life stories that worthy of an epic movie.

Can I just say, Mongols have the coolest names of anyone throughout history: Chinggis, Kublai, Ogedei, Kaidu, and so many more. Idk why I love Mongol names, they just sound badass.

The Crimean Khans (Giray Dynasty) were descendants of Chinggis Khan. After they swore loyalty to the Ottoman Sultan, they enjoyed autonomy and respect that no other Ottoman vassal could enjoy, probably because of their ancestry. In Ottoman protocol, when they met the Sultan, viziers, foreign diplomats and clergymen had to bow down and kiss his hands or skirts as a sign of loyalty and respect. Even Sultan's own Grandvizier. The exception was the Crimean Khan. When the Crimean Khan arrived at Sultan's court, Sultan would welcome him by standing up from his throne, hugging him and calling him his "brother". This respect continued until the 2nd Siege of Vienna, where Ottomans were kind of betrayed by their Crimean vassals. After Vienna, the Khan was reduced to the level of Grandvizier in protocol. A little fun fact: When Murad IV was in death bed, he had a plan to destroy the entire remaining Ottoman dynasty and leave the throne to Girays, since he viewed his heirs extremely incompetent. He failed and Ibrahim I the Mad, one of the worst sultans in Ottoman history, survived and took power after his brother's death. So, there is an alternate universe somewhere that the Ottoman Empire was reorganized as the Giray Empire after 1640.

I once heard that the greatest plot twist in history is that the Mongols did not actually finish conquering the world. What are your thoughts on that?

But until now, when I was learning world history, I never thought, 'Why did Genghis Khan conquer the world?' I'm still sad "Marco Polo" was cancelled by Netflix. I know these type of historical shows will change things around to tell a good story, so they're not historically accurate, but it sure was entertaining. Benedict Wong was an intimidating Kublai Khan. It was interesting to see how the Mongols rule and how all these other groups were all under the Khan. How they control the silk road and everything.

The founder of the Anatolian Seljuks was called "Kutalmışoğlu Süleymanşah" which is translated in English "Süleymanshah son of Qutgiven"

The title "Chingis" is quite similar to the title "Dalai" of Dalai Lama. The word Chingis was likely a borrowed word from a Turkic language, which eventually evolved into a modern Mongolian word "Tengis", which means "Sea". Similarly, Dalai Lama's title "Dalai" means "Ocean" in Mongolian, basically conveying the meaning of great/vast.

Because other conquerors (Tatars, Merkits, Chinese, Kyrgyz) always attacked Mongol lands and killed many of them. So, Mongols had to take revenge.

The historical Mongols were a federation of heterogenous groups of different nomad peoples of "Tartar" and also Türkish origin. The word "Mongol" is derived from the name of a tribe called Mongɣol or Manqol. Even if the cultural levels of these ethnic groups were different, they had a common language and a common culture which made their unification under the hand of a strong leader easier. In 1206, Temüjin (1155 or 1167-1227) of the Borjigid line of the Mongɣol adopted the title of Great Khan (qaɣan, in Chinese kèhán! 可汗). He is known as Činggis Qaɣan (Genghis Khan). Under his leadership the Mongols destroyed the Western Xia 西夏 (1038-1227) and Jin 金 (1115-1234) empires and conquered central Asia. The successors of Činggis Qaɣan created the largest empire that ever existed in premodern history. Yet this empire soon disintegrated into several states (ulus), one of which was China, ruled by the Yuan dynasty 元 (1279-1368) that was founded by Qubilai Qaɣan (Emperor Shizu 元世祖, r. 1260-1294), a grandson of Činggis.

Also. Never kill or harm the messengers. Mongols also respected the envoys and messenger of othe nations. But anytime the western or Eastern kingdoms decided to be petty and kill or maime Mongols envoys. Pretty was them signing their people death certificate.

It's very interesting that in Turkey we say "Doğum günün kutlu olsun" if it is someone's birthday which you mentioned Qut in the video so it still lives even in Anatolia. And the founder of the Turkey Seljuks name is Kutalmışoğlu Süleyman Şah. And we say "kutsal" to say sacred/holy in Turkish

Though considered a successful warrior and a general, Jalal al-Din is considered a poor ruler and his loss of re-established empire to the Mongol is attributed to the poor rulership of him. Jalal al-Din had enmity with all of his neighbours which resulted in Jalal's calls to form alliance against the Mongol army of Chormaqan being dismissed by all other Muslim kingdoms. Though historians agree that Jalal al-Din inherited these enmities from his father and predecessros.[1][3]

A quick note on fail of conquering japan: almost 80% of the fleet were filled with unskilled chinese and korean troops. Also the ships were poorly made like its chinese and korean engineers intentionally built unsafe noncomplete ships. Because the foundings from underneath the sea proves that those woods they built were simple not for battle and transport but for simple shipping boats. Thats explains why the it could not handle that sea storm.

Fun fact: I learned it from *ahem* secret someone, he said: mostly it was the other country's desire to enslave Mongolians (We were strong, hardened and useful potential slave force from steppes, that does not kill themselves like Japanese for example, when enslaved and taken. Our belief was that none should suicide no matter what, but fight to live off your best possible life because your/everyone's life is the most valuable thing). So our ideology/belief and our circumstances forced us to start "stop slavery in Asia at least" - kind of conquest. Apparently back in the day slavery was a big thing, and nowadays people does not really consider it that much, when talking about life back in the day. Remember: Khaan is not just some kind of mindless conqueror, they are slaves to their people's will and wellness. Not only Khaan but Mongolians fought for their lost sons and daughters to slavery, to find them or at least find out what happened to them. Mongolia was sort of good breeding ground for slaves, "they" took what was extra and left just enough men and women to reproduce for the next year's/generation's abduction by constant raids, like a human agriculture... There are even stories about Mongolian slaves in FAR ITALY, just think about how far was the slavery web connections. For Mongolians conquering the world was nothing compared to their willingness to find their lost relatives and so on. And that is how Mongolian armies was created, essentially. Because maintaining armies just by enough gold and fortune is not good enough for the longevity of the army, YOU NEED REASONS. And because of Mongol Empire, taking slaves from Asia became to be not an option or at least not an easy option for "westerners and others", soo they just resorted to taking slaves from Africa instead... WHAAAT. Do you ever considered WHY some people (even young generation of Europeans themselves) say that England or some other countries was built by the blood of slaves? So sorry Africans and African-Americans or black Americans, you just kind of became the alternate sacrificial chess piece instead of Asians, if you look at bigger picture of world history... PS: And yes I am a Mongolian. Believe it or not, that is your choice, it is just what I learned.

A "Khan" is simply a leader of extended household or a leader of a several merged households. Similar to a Sicilian (Italy) leader of extended household is called a "Don". Jang-He (Chinggis) Khan means leader of each and all households or War Leader or Commander in chief (USA). "Jang-He" in Persian-corrupted-form is "Jahan-Gir" meaning Universe-Conqueror.

Temujin did what he had to do, in order to survive, The modern concept of peace and brotherhood didn't exist back then in the dog-eat-dog world of the steppes. if you wanted to survive amongst monsters, you had to become the biggest monster of them all. GK went though unimaginable hell right from childhood, and accidentally found himself as the Alpha Monster (he suffered many humiliating defeats in his rise to power) by the time he reached middle age (40s). It was only after he managed to unite all Mongolia under his banner and became Genghis Khan, that he attainted the invincible tag in his wars with the outside world, simply because his other opponents hailed from far more "civilized kingdoms", and these "refined rulers" were no match for the rabid dogs with blood-lust that emerged out of the misty steppes, and who didn't suffer from any moral / ethical / chivalric compunctions, not to mention GK's charisma, generalship and his briliance as a tactician and war strategist.

Futile question. Such question can be applied to any warring people, conqueror, anglo-French-Roman-German wars; or recently Falkland, Slavian, Korean, Vietnam, Iraq, Libya. List is long.
