Mevagissey Cornwall
We take you on a nostalgic walk around Mevagissey.
Today ‘Meva’ is the perfect place to enjoy a wonderful visit, this coastal village on the south coast of Cornwall is a popular place for a holiday or a day trip.
In our new video we take you on a homemade walk around the village to explore it’s past, and tell you a few of the curious and fascinating stories from years gone by. How much do you know much about it’s fascinating and rich history?
The standard description bit…
We are Sarah and Andrew and we film our walks around Cornwall and publish on RU-vid, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!
We love your comments and read all of them. We also answer as many as possible. Unfortunately, we cannot answer comments received more than a week after publication.
Frequently asked questions:
What are your dogs called?
Sorry but we do not release the names of our dogs but perhaps you could make up a name for them!
What camera do we use?
Since December 2018 we have used: Canon Powershot G7x MkII
How do I find the books you use?
Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book three times. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.

Hi guys - I've been a lurker on your channel for some time now but feel that I must come out of the shaddows and express my thoughts. On each release I'm constantly surprised by the sheer professionalism and high standard of every aspect of your work, not least by all the pre recording research and post filming effort you obviously put into each production. I especially like your two camera approach, it's infinitely better than the "stick a phone on a stick & wave it about and upload" attitude of so many on youtube. Please keep on with the good work, it's something to look forward to each week.

That description of the "sanitation " gives a whole new meaning to the term long drop! Also love the Sunnyside and Moneyside in the village, bet now it's Tourist side and Second home side. Love the fact that you haven't gone fully professional and leave in the little bloopers such as Andrew's mission to retrieve his cap and Sarah's mangling of the word congregationalist.😂

Thanks both for another great Video. Always a favourite of my dad. He always said that he wanted to jump off the outer harbour wall into the water because it was so clear. I am guessing the bit on Sunnyside arm and away from the boats. But sadly he's been gone a long time and I guess he never did have his costume with him to do that. I've said it does look nice and I should just do it in his memory.

The woman who married two months after her husband's suspicious death (falling off a horse): in that era she may have become destitute if she didn't marry again. She may have not had any means of supporting herself outside of marriage. Maybe it was more respectable to be married (? don't know). Beautiful village, harbor and church. Fun stories.

It is so lovely to see and hear about all these interesting facts about Mevagissey. You are really diving deep down in the history books to find all these great things to tell and show. We were there two nights from last Sunday to Tuesday, and should actually have known this some time before that ☺ But we really enjoyed the stay and walked around in the harbour, had a tasty focaccia at She Sells, and spent some hours in The Lost Gardens of Heligan. We stayed at Mevagissey Bay Hotel which was absolutely lovely. And had two delicious dinners at the very old Fountain Inn: Fish pie, and beer battered cod & chips. Thank you for the lovely video once again 🥰 Torunn.

Fantastic video guys and brought back some lovely memories of family holidays down in Mev. Learnt loads of stuff as well. Grandparents lived in Mount Charles. We used to parked in Willow car park, or drove thorough the narrow streets and if you were lucky you got a spot on church street. Another interesting building in Mev is the aquarium, which was previous the life boat station. Has some history as well. Thanks for pulling all these videos together and they are really appreciated whilst being watched from Aotearoa, New Zealand 😊

Let me as a Cornishman and more than aware of the TRUE history re Mevagissey take time out to tell viewers why I won't give it my time. It had one of the worst child abuse scandals in the UK for DECADES. Certain individuals who came from NOT just local re Mevagissey to partake in child abuses that the local council and others who should have been brought to justice due to their ages and the time it took to finally reveal what had taken place there, died etc before it could happen. YES, there were some who were brought to justice AND the what unfolded was truly shocking beyond belief. To say that some re Mevagissey and locals?? Were NOT aware of what went on?? In the past?? How about into the 21st century. NOT that as we all know, Mevagissey was alone re child abuses and etc re the UK overall. NOR are we blaming all re Mevagissey for what transpired. THAT, would not be fair BUT if you have talked to some of and noted some of the horrors the victims went through DAILY for DECADES.. ?

@@andreafirth577 The true horror was finally broken open after one of the former kids from the children's home where the abuse took place, started abusing his own kids. To him, it was perfectly normal because it had been done to him so?? Thereafter it opened the doors to hell. I KNOW what went on from some of the victims AND believe me, it was shocking and the inner rage?? One of the girls got pregnant and was kicked down a set of stairs to force her to lose the baby... the abuses often took place late at night after 9om where certain kids were taken to the predators for abuse.. who came from abroad as well as the UK et.
