Hello from Venezuela :) I enjoyed your monologue. I am a spanish teacher myself and I like linguistics a lot. It is a fantastic experience to see the bustling streets during your walk. Also, even If I cannot get the full meaning, I can still enjoy the pronunciation. About the complexity, Japanese is a language that teachs you humility. In no way you can learn it fast, no matter how good of a student you are. I am still at the beggining of my journey. One of the things that was harder for me was the fact that syntactic order is "reversed", and you almost have no gender determinative particles or plural particles. In a sense, Japanese is like an ancient work of art, as simple as it looks it tricks you to believe it will be somehow easy, and truth be told it is a challenge to learn the language. Anyways, thanks. I stumbled at your channel by hearing random people talking nonsense, and then bum! this meaningful person appeared. It is a joy

Somehow your videos are much easier to understand than my own friends trying to help me understand them. Seeing how people actually respond and the slight differences they each make is what I love about your videos. I used to watch a lot of Konbini Confessions because its a lot of people just talking without a script.

Talking about famous people who can speak Japanese, I know Ariana Grande loves the culture and takes classes but I don't think she is pera pera yet, but you can find videos of her speaking some Japanese. I think it is nice to see a celebrity like this, because she can inspire the younger generation to learn about new cultures. I just discovered this channel but I am binge watching every single video. I am really thankful for these videos, Yusuke. :D

たしかに日本語は難しい けど一所懸命勉強したら だれにもできると思います. たとえば, 私なら, ゆうすけさんの動画を初めて見た時, 字幕を読んでないならほとんどわかりませでした. そして, ２回 とか３回の後で, だんだんわかりました (動画を見ながら英語字幕を少しい読んでいました ). 日本語を習ってみんな様がんばってくださいね :)

yus i am hopping around in some old videos whilst waiting for you to upload something new XD I am nto sure what made you split up the dialog from english to the bottom and japanese to the top, you stuck to it so you probably alerady know this: This works better than both above each other. On your oldes videos I'd often catch myself reading the english underneath as it was so close or at least glancing at it lol it was difficult not to cheat even if i didn't mean to! XD As to your question why japanese is difficult....a big difficulty for me is that I cannot actually use it. In english, I could already read and write the letters. I could read books at my (slow) pace and started chatting in forums which also allowed me to be slow but interact with native speakers (poor them hahaha). Eventually, you start to get used to the grammar if you keep using it and you get a broader vocabulary. But this is not possible in japanese. You study and remeber vocabulary including kanji, but you do not really use them, so you constantly forget them again. It is like piling up a mountain of sand, it constantly slips away again as you go along and you keep having to reshovel the sand that slipped off back on. It is slow and tedious. There is a few tresholds one has to overcome in all languages I think. Each time you do, it gets easier. Like for example when you read in another language, once you get to the point where you understand a text even if there are words that you do not know, you can just...read on. The same thing will happen again when listening and finally when speaking. You stop thinking about it eventually. I wish i could get to the first step at least =/ well, one wall of text later..that is how it is for me. It may be that others struggle with other problems, I'm quite the beginner after all who knows what else there is lurking down the road. PS: Oh! As an after thought...another problem with learning japanese is how it is taught! Why i didn't think of that right away....Most books and lessons are aimed to teach common phrases and the sort of japanese you as a visitor would most likely speak (that is, they start with teaching masu-form). They do not explain how it is formed or why. And in most classes i have taken, kanji were also not given enough importance (or writing in general). (sorry this is gonna be another long one XD who on earth is supposed to read all this lol) The problem is, if they start from the ground up, teaching the lexika form first and insisting on using kanji extremly early on and spending much time on them and writing, a lot of beginners will probably get discouraged very quickly. And if they end up using these forms in japan as guests, they could offend people too, who knows. But you can't really start building a house if you lack the proper fundation. There is a book by someone who learnt japanese called Tae Kim who explainst his problem very well and tries to not repeat it. It is very good but...very hard on beginners so yeah...

Hello again, I've another question. If any are willing to answer, it'd be appreciated. at the 7:40 mark you have: "sore ga douiu mono ka wo" and I can't quite piece it together. Sore ga rikai shimasen. To answer your question, on why language learning is difficult. From my own experience, and at my current level, I can connect the dots atleast 80% of the time, provided I've subtitles to read. However, listening is difficult, and I believe for 2 main reasons: Firstly, people don't pause to let you consider what you've just heard. (A majority of my study has been done reading from lesson videos, or listening and moving on. And this isn't the same as real time practice.) And secondly, my ears struggle to divide the sounds anyways. I believe these can be resolved by reading and understanding the content, and then pressuring yourself to listen through without the subtitles. But it's the forcing youself to need something that'll make the difference. At least it's been working for me at the moment. I've still a ways to go yet I feel. Anyways, I believe I've foiled the beginning portion of my langauge learning by being too techinical. And not having been at the conclusion that it's as simple as listening where you've potential to understand. Shouldn't of been this hard for me.
