For anyone who's on the fence between mono 10 and pb 1000 for movies and gaming , get the mono. I had the pb bought the mono to compare it and ended up returning the pb 1000. You won't regret it, this thing shakes my 3 story house.

I'm trying to sell my svs pb1000 rite now only had it for a month and then I seen they restocked the mono so the SVS PB1000 is for sale in ebay for 390 plus 30 for shipping some come get it I won't the MONO🤪👍

I could not believe this was a 10in sub when I heard it. I didn't think it was even physically possible for a 10in sub to go so low and deep. If I didnt know any better, I'd think it was a 12in sub. I think that's where this shines. This will be more than enough for most small and medium sized rooms, while having a tighter response than a 12in.

I agree it plays ridiculously deep :)

One thing to consider when comparing the HSU VTF-2 MK5 to the Monolith THX Select 10 is the Monolith comes with a full 5 year warranty. The HSU warranty on the amp is only 2 years, but for an additional $60 you can extend the amp warranty. So apples to apples the Monolith is $500/shipped and the HSU is $667/shipped. The Monolith also goes on sale occasionally for a pretty nice discount. A few weeks back Monoprice had it on sale for $375, so I added a second one. At $375 was an amazing deal.

Good review. The Monolith THX Select 10 is a very impressive 10" sub. It's a bit unfair to compare it to the larger HSU VTF-2 mk5 that has a larger driver and cabinet. While the Monolith 10 certainly isn't a small sub, it's still noticeably smaller than the VTF-2. Monolith 10 is 5585 in³ and the VTF-2.5 is 6765 in³. Prices are $499.99/shipped for the Monolith 10 and $607/shipped for the VTF-2.5. HSU does run the VTF-2.5 on sale a few times a year for a modest $30 off. You can get the Monolith 10 for $400-$425 buying from Monoprice via ebay, which lately has been running discount codes once or twice a month. I picked up the Monolith for $425 a few weeks back. I think if somebody has a room that is a bit larger they would benefit from the added headroom the VTF-2 offers above 40Hz.

I agree their not a direct comparison for all the reasons you mentioned. How are you liking the monolith? Do you have single or dual?
@JaysStraightUpReviews

I really like it, especially for a 10" sub. I have one of the 10" models and a pair the Monolith 12's. I have the 10 running on my 2.1 music set up with a pair of Q Acoustics 2020i bookshelf speakers and the Monolith sub is outstanding with music. The Monolith subs are very impressive and play very clean and accurate.

I need a stop-gap quality subwoofer for my apartment. I don't listen as loud as I want to for the neighbors. I can get the M10 for $430 (eBay sale) or the HSU VTF-2.5 for $230 more. How much am I missing out on the M10 vs. VTF 2.5 for movies? 2.5k cubic foot room.

"It's a bit unfair to compare it to the larger HSU VTF-2 mk5 that has a larger driver and cabinet." I think he's trying to say that if you can manage to squeeze out the extra $100, you get a sub with higher performance. More headroom = greater impact.

Nice review! It really shows a lot when you actually listen to your subscribers and if they ask you for a review, you do it! It's crazy. No other RU-vidr has taken that time or consideration for me and wanting to know more about something (of course it's also for everyone like me who is also curious). But again very nice review. What do you think about me getting one monoprice 10 thx sub and a rsl speedwoofer. Do you think I'd have great mids and great lows with the subs together? You should try it!
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
@HomeTheaterHobbyist 6 лет назад
Thanks! Putting the two together should work. The tonal characteristics are a little different between the two but with a little bit of EQ/volume work in your receiver you should get them to blend pretty seamlessly. Glad to help! I understand what you mean, one reason I started this channel was because I couldn’t find very many reviews of the things I wanted to know. Please keep the questions and support coming! I get what u mean by lack of midbass, these dont kick u in the chest like other subs, my dual klipsch's had kick but didnt dig as deep as the thx 10's do, had the klipschs for almost 10yrs now so it was time for an upgrade. these bad boys are mean! Heffffty 70lbs, 500w rms, down to 18hz for $399?! Wont find a better deal! Great review btw! This and ur thx 10 vs speedwoofer 10s video are the reason i bought them! Thank you for the great and in-depth review. Could you possibly expand on your comment about mid-bass please? I'm looking at purchasing a pair of these for a high quality HiFi system, and your comment made me wonder if these are the right choice. I'll be crossing over at around 80Hz using an external crossover with 48dB/oct filters. Was your comment about mid-bass referring to frequencies above or below that point? Also, did your perception of the mid-bass change with port plug in / port plug out? Any help would be much appreciated. All the best, Shem

So you've now reviewed I believe 4 subwoofers, SVS, HSU, Monoprice and RSL... Which is the most musical across the board (blends well with your other speakers) and which is the best for movies?
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
@HomeTheaterHobbyist 6 лет назад
😁😁 that’s a great question, most musical Rsl Speedwoofer 10s, best for movies is a little harder probably the Hsu VTF-2, you can feel the bass in your chest more even at low volume when compared to say the monolith 10. I will say the monolith 10, pb2000, and the Vtf-2 all play deep bass really well.

I used to own a pair of the PB12-NSD's and the Monolith 10 is actually very comparable. At lower frequencies is where you notice the biggest difference. The PB12 handles the really deep bass better due to it's larger driver.

How did it turn out? I was on the fence about getting dual sb3000 or dual M10v2
@youssefhamidi8152
@youssefhamidi8152 Год назад
@@edwardsanchez3708 so I did buy two monoliths m10 v2. Just using one actually did give me that depth to the bass which was greater than 1 sb3000. When I had both m10s the bass of course was more even and had a bit more punch. I ended up also testing out dual pb1000 pros and imo the pb1000 pro beat out the monolith slightly. The pb1000 pro seemed to be quicker with the bass, much lighter to move around and slightly smaller. The weight of the pb1000 was about 45lbs whereas the the monolith was about 75lbs! For the weight alone Id go with the pb1000 pros. If you listen to music at all then definitely go with the sb3000s. Its an excellent compromise in terms of size, output and depth. It wont have has much output as the pb1000s but it comes close. Id say the pb1000s (dual) are 10 for bass output and the sb3000s (dual) would be a solid 8.5-9. Hope that helps.

@@youssefhamidi8152 thanks for the quick reply. I saw a piano black version of the monolith 10v2 on Amazon and bought it gonna see how it sounds and get a 2nd whek im back in town. I am going to make a small 3.1 bedroom bedroom setup and was considering the pb2000pro. I have 4 definite tech 14 inch subs and they are awesome for movies but seem sluggish for music. I hooked up a cheap 12 inch bic subwoofer and for music it blew the big subs out of the water interms of how fast it kept up and the higher and broader bass notes it could catch with music but when it tried to hit deep movie bass to me it was like scratching nails on a chalkboard lol. So I'm creating multiple small setups in my house lol. But since you mention it I may take a closer look at the pb1000. I should have a older video posted of my works in progresss.

I have a def tech supercube 1 and supercube 2 in my home theater right now, was thinking about getting rid of the smaller sub for this monolith 10 or 12... or a rythmik... I think I'd rather the 10 at its price point, but my concern is that it doesn't go as low as I'd really want. Ideally, I'd want it to be able to hit 16hz +- 3db. If I'm going to step it up to the 12, I might as well get the rythmik for the price? f12-300 is $750... and servo controlled. I'll check out the HSU that you recommend.

If the port was on the side of the cabinet instead of middle, maybe the cabinet could be a little shorter, like the SVS PB1000.

@HomeTheaterHobbyist 6 лет назад
Yes!! I was thinking the same thing. One reason the Rsl Speedwoofer 10s is so small is because their port is rectangular vs the monolith 10 is circular and in the center of the box.
@JaysStraightUpReviews
@JaysStraightUpReviews 6 лет назад
The Monolith THX 10 and the RSL Speedwoofer may have the same diameter driver, but that's about where the similarities end. These subs aren't aimed at the same market. The Speedwoofer 10s is in a small cabinet and was measured by S&V to have a -3dB point of 30Hz, which by subwoofer standards is kind of mediocre extension capability. Not that the 10S is a bad sub, it's just designed to be a smaller option and focuses more on the 40-80Hz range. The Monolith THX 10 is designed to dig to 20Hz or better and has an incredibly linear and accurate response at very low distortion levels (in THX mode or extended). To get down to 20Hz or better with useable output you need a larger cabinet, more power and a capable driver. The Monolith driver is beastly and capable of high levels of excursion for a 10" driver.

When the light is Green in the back on my THX 10, and you aren't playing any music or movie (I mean the sub and your speakers are kind of mute), can you feel a little interference in your sub (on the cone)? You have to put your ear near to the speaker to hear it. A friend got a 12" Monolith and he has that interference as well. So we are wondering if all monolith are like those or just ours.

@@HomeTheaterHobbyist Thank You. I think I have narrowed it down to either the RSL Speedwoofer 10s or the HSU VTF-2 MK5. I'm having a very hard time time deciding between this and the HSU VTF-2 MK5. In terms of the price seems to be around $70 extra if i go with the HSU. I'm at 70% movies and 30% music and wondering which one to go with. I do like how the monolith looks comparatively and given its a little smaller it might not be as imposing in our living room. However, our living room is around 13' * 16' and we have an attached open kitchen which adds to the space which is another 7' * 13 ' so when facing the TV its a very wide space, so wondering if it needs a bigger sub... What would you suggest?

Personally between the two I pick the HSU because it can/should be tuned it to your preference while the Monolith isn't as tunable. The Monolith definitely looks better than the Hsu but I prefer the HSU. Let me know what you decide and how you like it, I'm curious.

Different subwoofers handle frequencies below ~250Hz differently. The monolith handles the low frequencies below ~50Hz with aplomb while some don’t do that well. Just because it says “subwoofer” that doesn’t mean it will play the entire frequency range the same.

Physical media and streaming mostly. A lot of gaming, and occasionally music. I'm going for deep bass, and remember I'm going for duals. I'm saying that because I'm not sure if duals would resolve the dip in midbass on the monolith. A contact at HSU told me they were getting a small batch in today, and itd be first come, first serve. I'm not quite ready to buy until Monday or Tuesday, and they said their "main batch" wasn't coming until January. Of course, I can always reach out and probably get in on another smaller shipment before then. The HSU subs would be closer to 1200, while the other 2 would be $950. That does make a difference, but I'm asking you based on sub quality alone, have I got your list correct for these 3 subs (in a dual format)?
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
@HomeTheaterHobbyist 3 года назад
Yes in dual format that would be my list. Based on cost being a concern don’t feel bad if you choose the svs or monolith both are great and duals will even out the overall response. Let me know what you choose and how you like it.

@@HomeTheaterHobbyist dual pb 2000s just went up from worldwidestereo on ebay for $998. Or 499 singles. I'm sold. It says they have "12+" available on each. Waiting on a damn money transfer. Free shipping. Authorized dealer..so 5 year warranty and 60 day returns. I'm not sure if I'll have the money until Wednesday. I think ill get one now for 500. And then I'll just grab the other one when this paypal transfer is complete. If they're sold out and I end up spending 600 on another one, that's OK. I really wanted the pb2000. That metal grill is just so much more appealing than the pb1000. Shipping is around 5 days.

For me the PB1000, it’s a little more balanced for movies and music. The Monolith plays deep if that’s what you’re looking for.

BIC America makes nice entry level stuff, but RSL, the Monolith, SVS, HSU Research are all significant upgrades to anything BIC makes. The BIC is only 250 watts RMS as opposed to this sub which is 500 watts RMS. BIC Subs also tend to be more muddy sounding and don't hit as low as any of the higher end brands mentioned.

What does the EQ extended and thx do? What is the benefits of it switched up on the lever or down thanks
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
@HomeTheaterHobbyist 6 лет назад
Extended EQ causes the sub to play a little louder and slightly more distorted. I tried it out and decided I like more output but not the distortion. So in the end I switched the EQ to THX and turned the level up a bit.

I wasn't able to compare the Monolith 10 and PB1000 back to back but based on my experience: The monolith will play deeper than the PB1000 but the PB1000 plays mid range bass better so it's a little more balanced. In other words if you enjoy movies and music with decent balanced bass, PB1000. If you just want deep bass, Monolith 10.

The Pb2000 will move more air due it's larger size but the Monolith 10 digs deep which is very nice! The Pb2000 is at a different price point so it's a little difficult to truly compare. At $500 the monolith 10 is great bang for the buck

You lost all credibility, midbass? It’s a sub the word already betrays what it needs to do SUB LOW.. Midrange is something your fronts and center do
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
@HomeTheaterHobbyist 4 года назад
I think you’re confusing 2 terms. Mid range frequency covers ~150-900hz. Your typical loudspeaker can handle these frequencies. Below 150Hz is the bass regime handled by the sub. Mid bass frequency range is ~50-90hz. While the frequencies below 50Hz are called low bass.
