I saw one of these like 10 years ago drivning by me on the street, it paused at a crosswalk to let someone walking pass, as it stoppet those automatic balancing legs came out of the chassi and kept it stable until it starten driving again and they automatically felld up and into the chassi again, i remember thinking, what the hell did I just see. Havent seen any of them untill I stumbled one some videos of them on youtube a few data ago.
You are still driving the Monotracer.. Great! Do you know someone near Hamburg, Germany, that has one? Would like to take a look at it. Maybe it is possible.
It's a shame they aren't sold here. I remember seeing one several years ago, I was seriously impressed. The fit and finish were superb. I have to wonder about it, though, there were at least two cars who pulled right out in front of it like it wasn't even there. These things are HUGE, compared to a motorcycle. So much easier to see, but the idiots on the road just pull out in front of them. I wish they would get them certified again, somehow or another, but they WERE expensive. Back in the early 2000's when I saw the one I did, they were $80K at the time.
Yeah, that's about what I thought. It's really too bad the DOT doesn't figure out what's necessary to import them and they get it compliant. I really would like to see more of these on the road.
I think its ideal for hiway commutes--it is able to be used in city traffic but it doesn't shine there. It does shine out on fast hiways with light traffic, minimal stop and go. I would love to own one but it is far too expensive the way they're currently being marketted. I have no interest in electric powered monotracers for the same reason I don't want an E-car--no range, high prices, they are not competitive with petrol-powered vehicles. When they become competitive I would gladly have an e-bike or car. If a car manufacturer would get committed to the monotracer concept they could profitably offer one to the public for as little as $15-20k with A/C and 50mpg or better. They would sell plenty of them at that price.
Last I read Peraves CZ was trying to make a go of it... MonoRacer now. In the USA, I think there might be only one...maybe not even the electric version.
"New" gas-powered versions are no longer available. However, the factory recently received certification to sell an electric-powered version in Europe, and they hope to eventually have U.S. certification for an electric-powered version. Currently they are in prototype-development stage for an updated electric model.
