You're probably gonna want to try the "silly spin" again, since you can combo into the end of the big bang combo out of it (if you spin enough to do the golf swing first)

As a person who played Hammer almost exclusively throughout World. I am very satisfied how the weapon turned out in Rise. I like that it’s not too different, but it is definitely better in every way.

Yeah, it's like a combination of all styles in GU. Guild attacks with yellow hammer Adept attacks with blue hammer aerial with the silkbind attack that requires two charges Valor step

You can also charge your silkbind moves by holding zr before doing them. It's pretty dope.

Changing from blue to yellow insta makes you go into lv3 charge. Nice for some quick combos!

Your Crater Impact does more damage the higher the charge . After big bang swap stance and insta lvl 3 impact crater !

@@schmibbly3180 me 2 first i thought the hit detection was kinda bad because i often hit only once with rather low damage. But only at lvl 3 you get the double hit

The silkbind moves can be charged too, the notes state charging them increases the number of hits and damage they do.

I predict so many Hammer Bros. They've made it so much easier to use their aerial, made Power Charge easier *and* fixed Spinning Bludgeon being the default while moving. It was already a great weapon and now anything annoying about it is now gone. Also, that hit box on the Silk Bind attacks is massive.

Yes and we can stil ledge hop like in world, so hammer has got even better in Rise..

Not to mention you can just stop mid-charging slide if you don't wanna do the sonic spinning attack. If you stop inputting a direction, you stop in your tracks and can do the neutral lv3 attack. Huge QoL change

The hammer is AMAZING now. It was already one of the best weapons - and I can’t speak to most of the others - because I only have “expertise” in hammer, LBG, and one or two others. But the little tweaks to hammer feel like they really step it up. It was awesome to play it - really excited. I’ve mentioned this elsewhere - but LBG was amazing too. If you were ever on the fence about LBG - just as an fyi - they’ve made what feel like really meaningful improvements here. And lastly - yowzers, I can’t claim to know how HH was before, but it’s freakin’ sick currently.

So far it seems that, the blue mode charge and link attacks faster. The yellow mode take longer to charge but deals more damage and potentially more KO damage. Some moves changes from one mode to the other. for example while in the blue mode if you do the lvl2 charge upper swing you won't launch your teamates flying (you'll still flinch them though). Seems like the blue mode is useful if the monster is moving around a lot and the yellow mode it for dishing out damage when the opportunity present itself, which could also be why you get a short hop that can be useful to quickly reposition if you get an opening.

As well, changing from blue to yellow causes you to step forward, and change to level 3 instantly. Useful to use the spin into the a button combo finisher, or to use a quick full power silkbind attack.

The spinning Attack is actually quite good now. I don't think you mentioned that. After the finisher of the Spinning Attack you can immediately combo into two more A-button attack and get the finisher of the usual A-combo too. Edit: You actually show this combo at 3:25. So I believe frequent switching of modes is very viable, so you can make use of that dash too.

@@Daryl90 I think it depends on the situation, the dash you get from switching to „yellow mode“ is great for closing the gap to the monster and allows you to immediately start the wombo combo. The silkbind smash move is more of a commitment but super strong. I dońt really know which is better tbh...

You can cancel the animation after the wall bang by just going into hammer charge. it also allows you to change direction providing an opportunity for some damage on the way down

Just so you know when doing the x wire bug attack you can hold zr to charge up the hammer to do more damage for the attack. You can also precharge thr hammer then do the silkbind attack

After being a little bit sad about the removal of the slinger combos you could do with the Greatsword, the Hammer looks like the perfect weapon for me to try out in Rise!

cant wait to see the insect glaive was testing it out and the in air mobility is insane with the wirebug dash , you can dash 6 times in air insane mobility and evasion

Hammer feels good! was using impact crater when the monsters got knocked down on its head since it hits on the way up and on the way down

I'm wondering if the charge state is gone and its replaced with yellow for exhaust and purple for ko. The static full charge in yellow has always been for exhaust and I've tried out the basic x combo in both yellow and purple and seem to b getting the same damage numbers. I could be wrong, it could literally just be for more attack options, but it'd be great if that is split and you can focus on one status effect or the other.

My main has always been the Long Sword, in World I picked up a few weapons but my main two were always insect glance and LS but after playing with hammer a bit and seeing this I might actually pick it up along with gunlance I like the way it feels

I've played Hammer since MHW Original, so really love the changes for the power charges as well as the wirebug QoL for movement and not need to be on a slope or near a wall/ledge to launch off of.

I dont know if you already told that in the video BUT you can also charge your Hammer for the super Jump move (which costs 2 Bugs) .... that makes a lot of damage :D

Aside from going into instant level three in yellow mode from blue, I need to know if there is a definite reason to be in either mode. Since in world I was always trying to be in power charge mode. I was never in the default hammer state. There didn't seem to be a point since the powered mode was better. I just want a reason to switch to either and not have yellow be useless.

I also main hammer in world and I woundered the same thing so I watched speed runners and what I can tell is that they all change into orange state before the air spinning silk bind attack? I woundered why and the only reason behind it I can think of is maybe the roll animation is quicker out of the orange or the base hammer attacks in orange are quicker or add more stun ? But your guess is as good as mine at this point lol

With the GS, those are the weapons I enjoyed the most in the demo. The wirebug bring so much mobility, it feels so great to use those heavy weapons !

The hammer feels so good in rise! The new valor step also adds a short cut to the level 3 spin attack ! You can have your weapon sheathed with blue change active draw into a charge ,press A to valor step and change to orange charge and release you’ll skip the level one and two and go right into the spinning bludgeon...I can’t wait to get some status and check out the effectiveness of the play style.

How long where you guys able to master all the weapon? I've only been using longsword a whole year without using other. Still sucks at monster reading... Do you guys take notes from monster?

So you missed a few things- when in power charge, you press the button again to get the Valor step dodge, which also instantly puts you into lv3 normal charge. On top of that, when in power charge while running, the wild swing lv3 charge is replaced by a dash slam. BUT, one no one is talking about is that big bang got nerfed to require a a slide slap first- UNLESS you go from a running lvl 3 normal charge, which let's you chain right into the big bang finisher as a new combo. Also, since you can Valor step to instant normal lvl 3, it makes it a lot faster to execute too. It's taken the entire franchise, but THE RUNNING SWING FINALLY HAS A USE!

You forgot that when u switch back to yellow you are automatically at lvl 3 charge and after the spin you can go into the second attack of the big bang combo

You can charge the spinning wirebug attack indefinitely too. Not sure if it does extra damage or something. Your hunter just stays there pulling on the wirebug lol

You can walk around and charge to level 3 and then use the spinning wirebug attack, you don't have to stand still

Just found out you can aim and throw barrel bombs from the ground. You can set up the larger barrel then toss the smaller barrel bomb at them. Just hold aim - zl

The alternate mode on hammer has a new lvl 3 charged attack while moving. The spinning attack was replaced with a significantly better lunging slam.

The idea of the first hammer switch skill I really like in concept as a counter of sorts, honestly more so then water stance because you can use it in charge to attack into the monster as well as reposition...... But fuck being wire bug based hurts it due to the start up...... I still like it on non status builds but it makes it so much more clunky...

The only tweak I would add in the game for Rise would be to make it so you can wallrun after doing a flying evade, by that I mean when you use the wirebug, you can shoot and move up, then you can either evade or hang on a bug, after hanging you can evade out of it, well those two evades should go into wallrunning if you hit a runnable wall.

Crater Impact could really use Hyper Armor.. Also seems pretty hard to land spinning bludgeon. You move forward a bit too much while using it.

I'd rather say the alternative charge mode (the purple one) is the adept charge from Generations if I recall correctly and not the super charged mode from World. Or is thath just me?

I found out that when you do the spinning wire bug move you can charge it/hold it I dont know if it makes it stronger or not. But when you use it you need to hold down Right Trigger to hold it. I fells like when i do charge it i get more hits in.

I bet that you don't get the extra power and stun for being in charge mode since there isn't any downside to staying in it, nor any upkeep. It's just a different moveset with different attacks.

Only the charge level 3 attacks are different. So there probably is more to it than that.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the insect glaive? I really want to see that video, because it just seems so disappointing to me. There's no new special aerial moves all besides movement that the IG didn't need in the first place.

It looks like there might be more of a focus on kinsect and aerial attacks this time around. Unfortunately we only get a default kinsect for the demo as the hunters notes insinuate other features. The aerial moves in general have been buffed pretty significantly. Focus on staying in the air and you might see your dps hit higher numbers with practice.

There are probably more silkbind moves to choose from in the final game. It is kinda weird that some weapons has more attack based silkbind and some which are more evasive/movement options. This is why the Hunting Horn is really good compared to the other weapons, the silkbind moves are high damage attacks and can connect easily.

That would be nice. The only problem I have with that is that the weapon would be super weird because every other weapon has a combo they do on a downed monster that does a ton of damage, but if the insect glaive does more damage in the air then knocking the monster down doesn't help the insect glaive nearly as much as other weapons. It just irks me a little that the insect glaive is geared towards knocking down a monster but it doesn't have the tools to properly take advantage of a downed monster.

No, actually they completely removed the sliding animations with every weapon unsheathed If you want to jump while sliding down with your weapon sheathed press B during the animation

@@jakeryan2805 yeah it was really powerful for hammer, it makes sense that they kept it unlike with the other weapons Hopefully that sliding mechanic for all other weapons won't ever return in future games or would be redesigned so that you can choose to slide or not... usually when I was using SnS in world the sliding advance slash was more oftan than not just a hassle, glad that isn't here in rise

In game, "+" then you go to page 3 or 4 and there is hunter note and you click it and then go to weapon something (im italian and i dont have the demo in english so i dont know exactly the names)

have you tried the LBG yet? i did a bit and it is BALLER! my two mains for MHW were hammer and LBG. I dabbled in several others - but hammer and LBG were my go-tos - so I’m psyched. Totally psyched. LBG was just freakin’ awesome. I mean it’s basically the same - but with just enough add’l swag-movement to make it feel like it should have - ie a badass gunner. That having been said - I also tried the HH - and that sh-t wrocks this time around - so I will prob and up rockin hammer, HH, and LBG this time around. Also GS too - because they added some killer mobility for that too. Ok yeah - Hammer, GS, HH, and LBG. Those are my mains. I’m done.

@@TubeYouDSilvy Yes, I was nervous to use it in 4U and in GU I only used it in a very casual and experimental way. But now it is way more fun, even if I dont know how to do the advanced maneuvers. I see myself using it a lot more now.

It's a similar leap from when I first played World after the previous three, but Rise can also get extra confusing because of the new mechanics like riding and silkbinds. Take your time, it's totally worth it because the added mobility means the monster movements can be faster and more realistic. (Seriously, play Gen Mizu and Rise Mizu back to back, the AI improvements really shine.) Think of it as training for your first MH game all over again:)

I thought there were new combo paths, but apparently not But the changes are a godsend, specially the Silkbind moves. Finally a reliable way to fight tall monsters in areas without slopes and cliffs

There is also an additional new move. When you do the spin from level 3 yellow state and finish with the home run swing you can press A again. If this connects you can press A once more and get the level 3 blue state charge attack from being static as well.

I managed to beat Magnamalo today after the 100th damn try using a hammer. The weapon is unstoppable in Rise.

What if they shadow released hunter styles with the release of the game and all of these are different Not getting my hopes up but man styles again would be so fun Would maybe give me my savage axe mode back ;-;

I played a lot of hammer in world, but in the demo they essentially split the world combos and charges, into two different charge stances.... I find it a bit uncomfortable to play compared to mhw. The ZL + Y move is awesome tho.

I love the idea of two modes for hammer, but I'd love for charge mode to be higher damage, higher KO, with the alternate mode being more mobile and high exaust. So against faster monsters you open with gold mode to stay safe and where the monster damage, swapping to charge mode when it starts slowing down to hopefully get knock downs.

Hammer better do more stun than bowgun sticky ammo in this game. The fact that hammer was *much* less effective at KO's than guns were in World was criminal.

Personally I'm not a fan of blue mode not having the spin when it moves. It would be so much cleaner to me if blue mode was spin attacks and yellow mode was single-hit smashes. I know that blue mode is supposed to be the powered up state, but to me it doesn't feel any stronger or better than yellow, just a different moveset, which is why I feel like making one mode dedicated to spin moves would be cleaner. Also adding onto what you said in the video, Rise NEEDS to add the button display that World had, and honestly I don't know why it isn't in the demo of all places, because my god the Switch controls mess me up

Really? The demo feels really smooth to me. Stable 30 fps and I don't notice any framedrops. Arguable much better feel than the variable frames in world ps4.

Bro what? It felt like a new weapon to me in Rise, couldnt even fight properly the first 3 hours and i mained Hammer 800 hours in world. Feels like everything is changed, especially the whole "charging Hammer" system, that was so much cooler and cleaner in World.
