Nope lorewise you only kill each monster the first time. Elder dragons tend to survive even after hunting. Wyverians stop people from hunting too much. Only four people go on a quest because they believe that five or more is cursed. And hunters try to not be "too brutal" with the monsters and purposely carve off non vital parts.

What are you talking about? One of the main themes of monster hunter is literally balance with nature. Hunters hunt monsters that threaten the ecosystem or for the sake of protection. Did you know that all weapons with shields have the shield in the hunters right hand, this is because the hunters always prioritise protection over aggression. Edit: the rezoning that the shields are on the right hand to prioritise protection is more of a fan theory rather than lore. The real reason is most likely because of the sns's ability to use items while unsheathed

Or or or, you can look at like this, by hunting them, we save the population. Think about it, no matter how many times you kill/capture (because you don't have to kill them all) a monster, there is always another one in the exact same place as you did last time. So by killing the monsters/moving them out of their habitats we help the ecosystem thrive by making sure there aren't too many predators that will eventually run into a shortage of food for the monsters thus wiping them out. So by making sure they don't overpopulate, we help keep the species alive! I know this is a very very old comment to reply to but still.

@@jaxman682 you are correct but some monster dont overpopulate and sone such as fatilis is rare so that means they don't do alot of harm since they are always unseen but the moment it's spotted it's a target

@@a1marine105 Well replied to my 8 month old comment lol. But it still doesn't change my argument from the gameplay perspective since again you can hunt Fatilis over and over again. From a story perspective, we really only hunt the monsters once maybe twice, even three times if it's a capture mission depending on the monster. Plus look at backstory of some of these monsters, and since you said Fatalis, let's use him. From the Fatalis's Ecology wiki page, which is essentially the lore of the monster, here's a quote "Fatalis possesses both great intelligence and an unfathomable hatred of humankind" and "Fatalis is extremely hostile to all living things." So from the lore of the monster, it's like a lion walked into a pen full of rabbits. So essentially Fatalis can and will do a lot of harm if hunters don't stop them. In fact Castle Schrade, where you fight Fatalis, may have very well been destroyed by it which is why it stays there, it views that place as its territory after taking it from people of that kingdom. While in the lore it also states that hunters will go and hunt Fatalis but never return AND Fatalis takes the armor off dead hunters, melts it down and then puts the molten pieces on it's own body, not only strengthening it but mocking the hunters, hence the intelligence. So in the end are some monsters wrongfully hunted, probably, but are they completely harmless, not really.

The answer is that they were either threatening the local populace, disrupting the ecosystem or you're capturing them to be relocated or put into the arena but mhw doesn't do a very good job of explaining the Hunter's Guild at all.

papa-pepe I know this is months later but I'm a pc player so I just got to experience the game so imma necropost the shit outta this . While that's all true it doesn't change the fact that humans aren't native to the new world, they moved there, colonized in the ban of research then deemed the native wildlife a danger to their claims. Under the sort of whimsical air of the game there's a really interesting conversation to be had about human interference and justification towards killing the natural denizens of the new world. Humanity is basically am alien race that decided to move in and clear out the creatures that cause them too much inconvenience.
