May 1st, we hit 86 degrees and the bugs were coming off. Got a brook trout right away, then nothing for two hours. towards the end of the day I finally got into some fish and had a great time. Planning on going fishing next weekend with Jason. We have a couple lakes in mind, but not sure what lake we should hit up.

Fished H-T-W yesterday. Biggest hatch I have ever seen - not a single bite. Tried everything. Glad you had a great time!

Dang, not even one accidental bite. That has happened to me every time I fish lakes near Yellowstone. Fish are constantly rising and nothing.

Lol, you just wait. I have a few lakes in mind where I believe I have to walk into that hold pike and bass.

Sylvia lake was still frozen over Sunday (April 30) but the shoreline/shallow spots were thawed so should be good soon with the warm weather

Wow that is impressive. I believe that lake is a little over 5000ft in elevation. That is good to know, thank you.

Were all the fish Brookies? The topwater takers looked like Rainbows?
@Fishthe406
@Fishthe406 Год назад
Yeah, the top water were rainbows.

@@Fishthe406 I fished that lake in early April, 2 years ago....lots of 11-12" Rainbows and 1 small Brookie. Didn't know the Brookies get as big as the ones you caught. Good hike-in lake for the shoulder months when higher lakes aren't accessible. Looking forward to you (hopefully) making a trip up to my favorite early/late season lake, around the Seeley Lake area.....

I know it holds decent rainbows as well. I've caught them up to 17 inches before, but haven't been able to find them for years. Yeah, that was the largest brook trout I've caught out of this lake tho. Yeah, we might hit up that lake. We have our eye on some other lakes we fished last year near the same area, but I didn't post the video.

Dang, a mile trek with flippers in a floaty boat is a feat! What was that alien stick bug water walker creature? I've never seen one quite like that in MT.
@Fishthe406
@Fishthe406 Год назад
I just assumed it was a stick bug. Maybe they change colors during the seasons or shed their skin. I think this was the third time I've seen a stick bug, but I remember them being green.
@Fishthe406
@Fishthe406 Год назад
apparently that bugs is a water scorpion and not a stick bug.
@markoutflytyingandfishinga1105
@@Fishthe406 a water scorpion. Huh that's cool. I've never heard of them, but I'm going to look them up. I wonder if trout eat them!? By the way I enjoy your videos man. If you ever want to take a trip to the south end of the state this summer, look me up. I'm right close to the Bitterroot. We could go fish together.

Hey man, hope you got out today. Not sure what happened to that past post. But here it is the water scorpion thing again: Nepidae is a family of exclusively aquatic Heteropteran insects in the order Hemiptera.[1] They are commonly called water scorpions for their superficial resemblance to scorpions, due to their raptorial forelegs and the presence of a long slender process at the posterior end of the abdomen, resembling a tail.[2] There are 14 genera in the family, in two subfamilies, Nepinae and Ranatrinae. Members of the genus Ranatra, the most widespread and species-rich genus, are sometimes called needle bugs or water stick insects as they are slenderer than Nepa.[3] While water scorpions do not sting with their tail,[4] they do have a painful bite (strictly speaking a sting by their pointed proboscis), but this is much less harmful to humans than a true scorpion's sting.[5 The thing to look over these are true true bugs, the Hemiptera Order contains all true bugs. These guys are really cool, very hard to find. Most people will see giant water bugs and such.
