Monterey Bay | Kayak with Sea Otters 

Sea otters might just be my favorite mammal. Not only are they adorable, they are an aquatic environmentalist. They help kelp forests flourish by munching on sea urchins, and help promote eelgrass in estuaries by eating crabs.
They are also one of the few mammals that uses tools. typically a rock that can be used as a hammer or anvil to break open hard-shelled prey. They also have a well designed loose patch of skin under their armpit to store their tool or foraged food.
On a recent trip to Monterey, my daughter and I rented a kayak from Adventures by the sea and paddled out to find our furry friends, and we did!
