from Monty Python's Flying Circus Season 1 - Episode 05 - Man's Crisis Of Identity Recorded 03-10-69, Aired 16-11-69 I'm slowly uploading the entire Flying Circus series... Got any requests?
The best part is that they're so damn elaborate, everything is so over the top & fantastic. That stage... I would have loved to sit in on their brainstorming sessions. "Are you at your.... wit's end?!"
There is only one word to describe this sketch: bonkers. Yet still so darn hilarious! The pythons were (and some still are) comedy loonies who rewrote comedy for good. RIP Graham Chapman. You will always be remembered as hilarious.
So, this skit apparently single handedly spawned forth Jackson Galaxy the cat whisperer from "My Cat From Hell" as well as "America's Got Talent" Lovely.
I used to confuse my friends cat for fun before I even heard of this sketch we thought it was hilarious, and then I heard about this sketch about a week later weird
I've been subbed for a few years now I think, definitely been watching your vids for that long, so weird to see this here from when you were probably younger than I am now
When I was little I had a stunningly realistic stuffed cat. We would stand it in front of my real cat and watch him get confused, poke it, jump, sniff it, and even refuse to turn his back. We called it the Confuse-A-Cat. :D
This was the first Python sketch I ever saw. I went to school the next day and a few of us started talking about it. After that we never talked about anything else!
Graham Yearley Me too and iirc it wasn't on the actual show itself that I saw it, I think this sketch was shown by viewer request on Points Of View on BBC1, anyway I was hooked.too.
I am most confused about how much effort and energy the put into this. The costumes, the sets, planning, the stop motion stuff, filming for hours, editing... all for a single joke. This takes dedication to a whole new level. Also, i found my car keys. Thank you.
From "News of the Weird," June 25, 2017: "More Animals With Affordable Health Care: In April, the annual report of the Association of British Insurers on its members' policies for pet owners noted that among the claims paid were those for a bearded dragon with an abscess, an anorexic Burmese python, a cocker spaniel that swallowed a turkey baster, a cockatoo with respiratory problems, and even a 'lethargic' house cat (which nonetheless cost the equivalent of $470 to treat). [BBC News, 4-17-2017]"
My cat had a squirrel two feet away from him today, while I was sitting with him in the backyard. He literally just stared at the squirrel and didn't do a THING! I think he needs to be confused.
The first time I saw this I was a teenager. My Dad and I were watching and couldn't catch our breath because we were laughing so hard. Now I'm 58, watched it again, and almost died laughing! It's such a bizarre premise for a comedy skit.
I love how John always says the first words in a sentence, pauses for about two seconds, then yells the last word. He does it all the time, not just in this.
Just watching everything they did, you can see how all these cartoons and comedies base their jokes on python sketches. South park was majorly influenced by them, a lot by the way of how monty pythons sketches were so far fetched and fictitious, Cant have a favourite monty python, but i really do miss Graham!
True, but if they had the option back then, I think they would've manipulated swearing as well. But now yes it's a lot less restricted and quite a tuff crowed to please. So I guess South Park aimed at pissing everyone off. Lol if you haven't seen south parks dedication to Monty Python, I strongly advise you to! They kidnap terry Gillian's mum! With a very good South Park version of the dead parrot sketch :)
The first seasons of The Simpsons is also heavily influenced by Monthy Python, in a brilliant way I might add (as oppose to the latest seasons, which have been heavily influenced by fish rotting on the window sill), as well as Family Guy, which succeeded in making something funny once in a while. It's no wonder they inspired animated shows though, as they were probably the first and best people to ever make a "real life animated show", ignoring the limits of the medium.
"Your cat is suffering from what we vets haven't found a word for." THis sketch is ledgendary in my family. When I was little, I had a stuffed cat that was so lifelike that my cats kept coming up to it and sniffing it, or poking it it and running away when it fell over. We called it the Confuse-a Cat!
I have to say that it becomes more difficult with each attempt as the cat becomes more jaded with age. One could risk injury -- about which the cat cares not, unless it's amusing.
