@@eisenkrahe7125 Yes. Let's agree that he has the right to refer to his personal experience watching it as 20 years ago, even though the film came out in 1979.
There a lot of people misreading this scene. The scene isn't anti-trans. It's anti-nonsense. Note that the characters are surprised to hear that their male friend wants to be a woman, but they only object to his idea that he should have the right to have babies. Also, anyone who argues against transgenderism is a moron.
@@THAT.RANDOM.GUY_ its not a bad thing to have a term this brand of stupidity. There is a difference in stupidity and willful ignorance, SJWs are a mix of the 2 but lean far more towards willful ignorance. wouldnt do to keep them in the same category as flat Earthers since they are 100% willful ignorance or Ant-vaccers that are a pretty even mix of willful ignorance and stupidity
@@jgdooley2003 not only women now days, you can be a cat, dog, 5 year old child, sofa, anything you want really. We should bring back the arena for this lot.
It's quite scary really. Even in the 90's this sort of thing was so laughable because of how utterly ridiculous it was. Obviously no sane human would ever say such things... and yet here we are, it's being systematically enforced by schools, governments, and corporations. You can literally be fired, or suspended, or arrested in some countries for not playing along with this Monty Python skit!
Funny, sad, disgusting, there's a friggin word salad I have heard as far as this. I will contribute further to the word salad, it's funny because it's true 🤷♂️.
@Nick Anderson yeah, teaching kids to accept themselves for who they are. kids should be accepted for the gender they really are. and gender reassignment is, relative to the medical world, one of the best treatments. the vast vast majority of those who receive it show positive effects.
"You wanna have babies?" "It's every man's right to have babies if he wants them" "But you can't have babies" "Don't oppress me" This has aged like wine
These days they are oppressing me, I’m not even allowed to say, “I AM A REAL WOMAN”, I’ve been degraded to cis woman. I’m not even a mother anymore; I’m a birth person. The butches have taken over... and I predict that in the distant future, man will go to jail for rejecting a woman (and I’m not talking about rejecting a cis woman) when all she wants is just being appreciated between thé sheets... so they are REALLY confirmed in their womanhood. God bless all women... hallelujah
You think that, because you only know choice parts of Greek philosophy, which happen to be relevant. You don't know the big chunk, that's utter confusion and entirely irrelevant.
I always took "radical" Christians as being radically "pacifist" (it also has a name in Christian tradition: quietism) if radical means following New Testament without exceptions.
Keep scrolling down, and when you're done there, just scrawl through youtube to find literally MILLIONS of them. But hey. Don't let me stop your point scoring. Knock yourself out.
not ahead of its time, part of its time. this sort of conversation was happening during and before Monty Python, but was just starting to get public attention at the time. all they did was use the comedic device of "modern topic in exaggeratedly old setting" (a device they heavily overused in this film). the irony is that it may be genetic/innate, so the joke's on them i guess.
This was historically even a little bit late. Transgender and Transpecies were discussed in scientific fiction literature decades before 1979, which is when Life of Brian was released. But it definitely highlights the hypersensitive and divisive time we live in. We can all be hypersensitive, but man, you better learn your pronouns or else!!!
@@SharkVsTree then you are not informed of the research that has been done on the phenomenon. research, by the way, that would be much more advanced and extensive had the Nazis not burned all the old research that was done on transgenderism in Europe. i can only guess that those pricks wouldn't be interested in obliterating research done on some social affectation...
@@Mr_Friendly_B it aged fine because the sketch is not mean spirited, and even modern folks looking for something to be offended about could see that; the people in the film accept that their friend wants to be a woman pretty easily, the point they contend is that he wants to mother a child, which is just a real biological hurdle
@@theonetypingthis7186 They also realized that he's a nutjob. And the Monty Python never imagined at that time that sickness would come true. Please Russia, invade us !
@@absolutechad5428 I truly don't believe this was intentionally 'wise' in terms of predicting the future. It was just to them a very funny idea at the time. Given 'life of Brian' couldn't even be made in this day and age, and this joke came true, I think we can all settle on the fact that identity politics has partially destroyed Western culture
Well it is important to include women coz your language is making men as a default because men means sex and all the people lol. But sadly very often saying 'men and women' is just an empty virtue signaling.
"Suppose you agree that he can't actually have babies" No, suppose you agree that *she* can't actually have babies My friend pointed this out, who is himself trans.
Ironic how Stan is saying that he's oppressed because he can't have babies, meanwhile he's casually watching slaves being forced to fight gladiator battles :)
@@docribby Yeah but men cant have babies outside people who think roleplaying is real, thats the joke. You can be pro trans, but not on the expense where Womens rights movement or that is put out of jeopardy
@@matrix91234 you do realise in biblical times they had more than 2 genders in society, that's the actual joke that from a 1970s lens the idea that men can be women seemed bizarre. Yet society is going back due to the church having less influence in modern times.
It's so fucking up to date that it feels like the sketch was made just a couple of weeks ago. They predicted a whole website. Monty Python were amazing geniuses of comedy.
The genius of Life of Brian (and Monty Python in general) is how it takes a jab at philosophies from all spectrums : socialists, individualists, liberals, conservatives, nationalists, imperialists, capitalists, theists, anarchists, monarchists, or even nihilism itself.
I enjoyed the scenes involving Mr. Hilter & his attempts to gain power in the English town of Minehead. Tourist: "You wouldn't have much fun in Stalingrad." Hilter: "Not much fun in Stalingrad..."
That might be true, nonetheless it's still a testament to amazing comedy, this is from the late 70's, 43 years later still relevant. We could use more comedy of this caliber, but not even BBC itself does them justice in the the pursue of the elusive unicorn called "political correctness"...
1979 to be precise. The fact that modern society idolises the "Greed is good" 80's is ironic and a little sad in of itself. Having said all that, you're being a bit generous aren't you? smh When this film was released it was a bit on the progressive edgy side, now it's been so long even conservatives love it. The only thing the original is missing from the 2020's version is the iNtENsiTy...
No, all satire is ironic, because it engages in mocking ironically certain views or people, but when it becomes reality, then its irony punching us in the face. Because we didnt listen, and we certainly didnt learn. So enjoy "men getting pregnant" now. Because Feelings > Facts. And reality is "racist", "sexist" and "transphobic". We despise reality and nature, because we've delved deep into delusion and absurdity.
@@morpheas768 Reality is what it is. However we define and create certain abstract ideals that would never exist without us. "Men" and "Womwn" are categories we created to describe the world and ourselves. They are not "reality," but our categorization of reality. @@Leon_der_Luftige I think they're talking about the bullshit where people say there's more than two genders, SJWs saying that you can be multiple genders at once, and trans people wanting to become a sex which they can't biologically, they can look and act female/male but they can't actually become that gender as that's not how they were born, also the fact that SJWs are trying to say that trans females, non-binary people and even regular biological males can beome pregnant and have periods if they wanted to, or at least have the right to have periods/pregnancy
+stickypool I know this sounds horridly hippie, but if we all just had a little more love and empathy for each other, then we wouldn't have to keep building these ridiculous little fences and jokes could be funny again.
What a difference a year makes. It turns out that in the UK a joke will get you convicted of hate speech. Also, the aussies have been better at cricket because they're cheats.
Did you know that trans people have been a thing since before but especially in ancient rome? Did you know that’s also when the movie takes place? It’s actually pretty interesting.
Because they all went through Oxbridge, where they would have encountered first hand the windbag Marxists who espoused all this crap and who paved the way for the woke movement of today.
