For those that are woefully uninformed, this skit happens to be the reason "spam" has come to mean "junk messages" on the Internet. Much respect to Monty Python for originating such a well-known (if negatively connotative) definition
As my father and I love this sketch and have for years, whenever someone mentions spam, my father and I instantly start the Spam Chant - which drives the rest of the family mad.
What I love best about this classic sketch is his voice when he screams "SHUT UP!" He sounds exactly like my late mother did when she'd yell at us kids when we were little,lol!
The folks at Hormel had a great sense of humor. Following the first airing of this sketch, sales of the popular luncheon meat skyrocketed, and stores had a hard time keeping up with the demand! True story!
"Have you got anything without spam in it?" Lady, have you not listened to the beginning of the menu? I would have gladly ordered the "Egg, sausage, and bacon"
Ben Crispe it’s so legit a mistake and any English major would catch it in a minute. I wonder if they could smoothly edit out the first two menu choices.
the term spam, as in "egg egg egg egg egg egg" was based off of this. because they say spam over and over again, they spam the word spam. like "spam spam spam spam SPAAAAAAAAAM WOMNDERFUL SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAM". so, just something interesting.
It's like something out of a nightmare but unbelievably funny at the same time. They're all bonkers in it and must have been on a right old trip to dream this up!!
AuroraKnux - It's probably one of the funniest sketches in the history of comedy, but it's also most likely the silliest in recorded history....It has to be !!
I love this about the Pythons. They allowed themselves to go absolutely insane with their sketches. Didn't have to make sense, just experiment, think up a bunch of "hey guys, what if we just...", and that's how come we got the people being lowered onto their seats randomly in the sketch, add a bunch of vikings in there, like WTF? It's just so artsy!
Man I tell you what Monty Python comedic geniuses!! I grew up watching these guys and they were a freaking hoot !! to this day their stuff is still HYSTERICAL!!
True, but in this case, the customer is unable to order anything without spam in it, therefore, it becomes "spamming"...with brandy and a fried egg on top...and spam.
Early internet trolls in the 1980's would actually reference this sketch directly in chat rooms and the like, flooding the chat with the word spam as well as longer quotes from the sketch. People called it spam and spamming because the word spam was everywhere. The original spamming was just pure Monty Python quotes. Isn't that just beautiful?
I would say it was just conceived here :P Then, in the 1080's, it was born when early internet trolls flooded chatrooms with quotes from this sketch. :D

I can thank this skit for making me aware of spam, and Hawaii for making me LOVE spam, via the franken-food Japanese-American fusion: Spam Musubi. Even if you don't like spam, you will love this when it's made right.
i honestly wonder how people found this entertaining back in the seventies because it seems soooo different from every other kind of humor they had back then. like this is bizarre even for me and im younger than 20 and grew up surrounded by weird, unexplainable humor. monty python feels like it was around about 50 years too early.
Every time I drop into my favorite restaurant I always join the Vikings for a rousing rendition of Spam. Nothing else puts a smile on my face and a spring in my step better than the Spam song. And if I'm feeling down I go to the Argument Clinic for relief.🤪
Deroni76 I grew up watching Python on WTTW 11 Chicago, public broadcasting. And I've always thought they were hilarious. Funny is funny no matter what nationality you are. Now , I'm going to get some spam.
I was at the Spam Museum yesterday and they had all kinds of t-shirts, but none of them said, "I don't like Spam!". I asked the gal working there and she laughed about it. :D
Has anyone noticed--the first two items on the menu had no spam at all (e.g., egg and bacon, and egg,sausage and bacon) but both the female customer and the restaurant owner blatantly ignored this fact!
And I watched this video eating a spam sammich with a bowl of spam, spam, spam, spam, bake bean, spam, spam, and spam... With a side of spam and spam sammich.
This is what I feel like everytime I log onto the internet or start looking for youtube videos. No matter how many ads I block or remove myself from the advert collecting I still get this waitress it seems.
