Back with another horror classic, and Camp Crystal Lake does not disappoint! If you like to witness the true range of a mother's love and real-time punishment for sinners, then you'll love this full movie reaction to Friday the 13th!
The ending with Jason coming out of the lake was actually supposed to be a dream. They never intended a sequel or thought there would be one. When this one scored huge box office, Paramount saw dollar signs and a franchise was born.
This was made as a cheap grind house movie for drive ins, but after Halloween’s success, the publicity department decided to advertise it as a legitimate thriller, of course releasing it on a Friday the 13th weekend. i bet their publicity campaign cost more than the movie but boy did it pay off.
@@anjealousanaconda9692 You're thinking of Halloween, actually. That was the original idea for Halloween, different stories all taking place on Halloween night (hence why the third movie has nothing to do with Michael Myers). There was never meant to be a sequel to Friday the 13th. The guy who made the first movie actually refused to take part in the sequels because it wasn't what he wanted.
@@judaihyuga No, they actually meant to do separated anthology movies like Halloween they DID explicitily say they wanted to copy Halloween, after all. And JUST like Halloween, the killers were too godamn good that the audience wanted more. Halloween then tried to do a second episode with "Season of the Witch" (after giving the audience a second Micheal Myers story) but it didn't worked out. Friday, then, had that "Goosebump"/"Grimm"/"Are you afraid of the dark" styled TV show.
@@MariuigiKhed you're gonna have to site where you read that then, because any behind the scenes features I've watched never mentioned anything of the sort. Halloween inspired the slasher elements, I don't deny that, but nothing I've watched or read ever stated that they were going to copy the original concept. Victor Miller, the writer for the original movie. Had no intention of continuing the series and none of the sequels had his approval. He flat refused to return for any of them.
The special effects were done by Tom Savini. He did special effects for George Romero’s Dead series (except for Night Of The Living Dead, he was drafted into Vietnam, however that’s why a lot of his effects are good is due to his experiences seeing violent stuff in Vietnam)
@@AlandaParker btw. When watching these old movies keep in mind 2 things. 1. The US population has increased drastically. The US population in 1980 was only about 1/4 of the current population. And 2. We live in what is literally the safest time in human history (yes let that sink in for a hot min) and the side effect of that is people (least in first world nations) can't accurately judge danger. They usually either under estimate or over estimate how dangerous things are. In the 70s and 80s people usually under estimated danger. However since 9/11 people usually tend to over estimate danger. Take covid as an example. Covid has a roughly 99.7% survival rate but people are freaking out like it's the Spanish flu or black death.
I worked in a Movie Theatre when Friday the Thirteenth came out (yeah, I'm old), so I've seen this thing hundreds of times. At the end of the movie where the girl is in the canoe, we had to position our crew to keep people from falling down the stairs for during the credits when the dude Jason jumps up out of the water; popcorn and drinks flying everywhere... best part of the movie...
Honestly, Pamela Vorhees is probably my favorite slasher movie villain, purely because she looks nothing like what you'd expect *from* a slasher villain. She looks so normal and sweet at first glance, but it's so unsettling when she starts talking to herself as if her son is there. I'm way more creeped out by baddies that are totally possible and believable than I am monsters.
your final girl commentary is hilarious af, seriously looking forward to your final girl/guy commentary in the later films in the series - potential for so much comedy! And you're right to stay far away from the SCREAM series until you get more classic horror under your belt... they spoil SO many other movies (incl sci fi) as well.
I agree with horror movies one should watch in chronological order start with early silent horror movies then move forward if you did that you would know what "One of Us, One of Us, One of Us" reference means in later Horror films.. just a tip from a horror movie buff...btw really enjoying your channel... can't wait for you to explore the Hammer Studio Horror films from the early seventies.
"listen to the pantry prophet" good policy XD "woke up smiling like she's in a Bob Ross painting" you're gonna kill some viewers with these fire lines XD
I have seen this movie so many times over the years, and seen so many people react to it, but THIS was so refreshing and hilarious. You are enchanting and I look forward to more of your reactions to the series!!
I think your reaction to Candyman 1 & The Cabin In The Woods would be *chef’s kiss*. Missed your reactions. Glad you had a peaceful and relaxing break. Welcome back.
"She woke up smiling like she was in a Bob Ross painting..." Okay, that made me laugh. Great reaction! I hope you'll also react to the sequels to see Jason in all his gory glory.
This movie doesn’t get enough credit for being self aware. They knew what they were doing. It took pre-existing tropes and codified them to the point where a lot of slashers followed that template. Great reaction!
Some sequels did get silly and also non of horror movie series can keep their own established rules , most set up rules in two first movies and then ignored those .
@@pete_lind The problem with sequels is that it's not always/usually the same people that make them. There are 12 of the Friday the 13th movies... Can't wait to see who gets to write/direct Friday the 13th, *part 13!* GODZILLA has over 33 movies. (you can get lost in which movies are remakes, sequels, sequels to remakes, reboots, reimagines, etc)
Hearing you talk about final girls a lot... I think you should add You’re Next (2011) to your list. You’ll really enjoy what they do with the final girl tropes in that movie.
Honestly love how you caught the atmosphere of the film, i was a bit bored when i revisited this but your reaction helped remind me why it’s a classic.
Always fun to watch someone watching classic slashers for the first time. The problem with Scream is it potentially ruins tropes you may not be familiar with, but, hey, we start our journeys not at the same time! Also; Alice is ok by final girl standards, but Parts 2, 4-6, and 7 are *tough* fighters imo.
I stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago and I can't even explain how much I've been looking forward to you covering this movie!! I love your commentaries on all these different horror movies I've grown up watching, you just have such fresh takes on all of them it's like watching them for the first time again, I dig your channel and you sm!
I like watching your reactions to horror movies because they make me appreciate them a bit more( this one specifically I kinda didn’t like first time I watched it)also 100% keep watching the Scream movies they are so good
It's crazy that the sequel retconed the motive of the killer in the first movie but still was good enough to keep the franchise going for 10 more movies after that.
The entire Friday the 13th franchise has it's ups and downs, but I think they're all worth watching. This includes Friday the 13th parts 2 through 8, "Jason Goes To Hell", "Jason X", "Freddy vs. Jason", and even the Friday the 13th reboot from the early 2000s. Watch them all.
Neat reaction Alanda, Friday the 13th is often dismissed for riding off of the success of Halloween has fashion its on identity, Halloween being stylish and suspenseful, Friday the 13th is a campfire tale rollercoaster gore romp. an interesting surprise for those know about Jason only to find out part 1 is about his Mother being the killer. Also interesting how its retroactively connected to Nightmare on Elm Street via Freddy vs Jason. 1 done 10 to go, 11 if ya include the 2009 Reboot.
This is a definite classic and is definitely a *more for less* kind of film, when considering the budget was so small. More movies need to take a lesson from movies like this.
i love listening to your horror commentary - me and my wife are in medicine and we yell a bunch of medical things at the screen. you sound like youre trying to treat these folks!
I was yelling at my tv every time Alice hit Pamela once then ran off. I'm like "Girl if you don't start mollywhoppin this woman with every weapon you can find!!!" 😂😂😂
Girl you are a whole Vibe❤️You and Ashleigh Burton are my Favorite Reactors, y'all keep it real and are just hilariously funny I just want to have a Girls Night with y'all and watch movies🍹🍹🍹
(Sees bloody axe, lovingly tucked into bed like a toddler) Victim 1: "That's not goood!" Victim 2: "You're right, better leave it here!" Me: "Tell me you don't want to do the sequel, without telling me you don't want do the sequel!" Alanda: "I GOT AN AXE...THERE'S THE EXIT...GIVE ME YOUR KEYS!" (Roll credits)
You should do Sleepaway Camp I think youd actually enjoy that and the twist ending. Fun fact: the snake they killed in Friday 13th was actually a set person's pet. He didn't like that too much 😭
I was actually an extra on Sleepaway Camp, with a few of my friends. It was filmed near my hometown in upstate NY. I was thirteen years old. We didn't know we were in a horror movie. We thought it was going to be something like the movie Meatballs.
"That looks real for 1980" The great Tom Savini. Savini was the makeup artist in this and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. He worked with George Romero for Dawn of the Dead, years before Friday the 13th.
Hey Alanda, my son and I love your reactions 🤣🤣🤣 just wanted to let you know that we actually visited the camp. This movie was filmed at in New Jersey a few years ago and we got to meet a lot of the actors minus Kevin Bacon. It was an awesome experience.❤❤😊
I really like your videos! Your edits and everything are on point! You get the exciting parts on your screen. I wanna recommend The Grudge IF YOU HAVENT WATCHED IT YET. Have a bless day. 😁❤
Loved your reaction to this movie. Not too many of my friends enjoy horror, so it’s like I’m watching with a friend. You had me cracking up, “girl, leave your pants on, there’s a killer.” 💀 Subscribed. Keep being awesome. 😊 Edit: “the audacity of this killer.” I swear I’ve said that so many times when watching horror movies. So good. 🤣
More horror movie recommendations . . . "Pet Semetary," "Stir of Echoes" -- another Kevin Bacon one -- "Christine," and most definitely . . . THE EXORCIST.
I’m shook by this. I mean truly. having the AUDACITY to just up and murder an animal for no reason is crazy enough but someone’s PET?!? There was a demon wieldin that machete
Thumbs up on sight! I appreciate every one of these you post! Thank you for the mental health breaks during these, "Interesting" times, and please keep crushing it like you are!
That poor snake was real, and was actually killed in the scene. Even worse, he was a pet snake and the director didn't tell its owner that they were going to kill his pet.
You want a Final Girl whose capable, watch You’re Next, she never does any stupid move ever, every choose she does is like “yeah, I’d do the same thing” and she double and triple taps every motherfucker who comes at her with a weapon. AUSSIE REP!!!
Missed ya and your movie reactions. Glad you had a good journey, happier that you’re back. Here’s a good horror suggestion, April Fool’s Day. Nice surprise ending.
April Fool's Day was so polarizing at the time but I think now people appreciate it more for what it is. Lots of great 80s actors in it which ups the appeal tremendously.
SO glad you're back and had a great bit of time off!! Love your commentary, especially the "double-tap"! I saw someone else comment that you should see Sleepaway Camp and I totally agree - I know your commentary would be amazing for that one! :)
Alanda. I just discovered you yesterday and I've binged a half dozen of your videos. You are hysterical and very entertaining! I would love it if you considered doing reviews/commentaries in the spirit of Jaime French (she's awesome too!) I love LOVE watching spirited reviews of these films. I love your reaction vids, but I would love to see a few that are straight up reviews (presenting the movie by scene with your commentary, etc) I think it would really take off.
Alice is just a lucky girl haha. The final girl in part 2 is faaaar superior, I think you'll be impressed with her. The series in whole is quite a ride, some of them are amazing, others.......ehhhh not so much lol.
