Original live-in-studio rare extended version and previously unreleased, this track first appeared on the 2007 SACD edition of 'Every Good Boy Deserves Favour' cd.
"Notes on bonus material: Track 10: Recorded at Wessex Studios - 4th to 9th November 1970. This Superb Justin Hayward composition was recorded during the first session for the album that became "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour." Essentially performed live in the studio, the version presented here features Justin's original vocal track (treated with a delayed reverb effect) and an extended guitar solo."

At the beginning, Ray says, "It's the marriage of classical and rock." Also, the picture at 2:48 is a Coke ad from a Dutch magazine.

Awesome video and great pics! With so many great songs in their catalogue, it's hard to choose a fave MB tune. But this one ranks high with me! Ray's intro, John's driving bass/backing vocals, and Justin's voice and lyrics equal sheer perfection! 💘 the Moodies so much!! Love to you all! Deb xoxo (moodygirl) 6/28/19

1971 when released; the perfect three-minute rock song. Hayward did it again. The formula they and Tony Clarke perfected works; concept LP's incorporating a hit single or more, segueing from song to song. Justin's guitar and Mike Pinder playing boogie-woogie on the piano are still amazing 45 years later.

Daniel Cook. Isnt it amazing what true and fantastic art can do. The ppl it can touch. Its art when its from the soul and it speaks to the soul. Its not about ego. Its way deep and these artists will sadly never know ppl like you who they made such a huge difference for. They did for me too, but in a less dramatic way.

I even got to see The Moody Blues in concert here in Brisbane, Australia in 1987 at Festival Hall in Albert Street in the City ~ an iconic venue of Brisbane's which sadly was demolished along with the other iconic Cloudland venue at Bowen Hills........yep, the good ol' days when rock music was the best!!

The Moody Blues are rock n roll troubadours, they are storytellers. What most people don't understand is that if all you've heard is the few album cuts that are played on the radio you will never know the story. Each one of their albums tells a different story. The only way to perceive the story is to listen to the entire album, more than once. Listening to only 1 song is like reading only 1 chapter of an entire book.

Every time I bought a Moodies album from the mid sixties, to mid seventies, I knew that what I had bought would a) have no filler tracks b) democratically have songs (or poems from Graeme) from each of the members of the group c) have one fantastic track after another with brilliant musicianship and arrangements d) be so good you would want to play the record over and over again d) have some of the greatest examples of album cover artwork at the time. Oh and all my friends wanted to borrow my albums!

Oh Dennis,. they are not underrated - don't be silly and get all emotional. Just because Rolling Stone Ragazine stoners dissed them ages ago is mostly meaningless and a testament to their agenda as Rock poseurs. There is a giant fan base and great appreciation for The Moody Blues worldwide. Most all of my friends with diverse tastes rank them as one of the best and most favoured bands. Their were MANY great bands of the 60's and 70's, to say they were the MOST talented and creative is quite silly. They sit comfortably and harmoniously between my Beatles records and my YES records. Later In the 80's we had The FIXx and in the 90's We had Radiohead. Special mention to CSNY, ELP, R.E.M. and the great Neil Diamond and Joni Mitchell - Sandy

Speaking subjectively. I can't disagree. Their music hit deeper and harder into my being than the "fabs" ever did. I loved those "Liverpool brats" the moment they broke through the gates (1964) and invaded the USA, beyond the end, getting shut down on their rooftop. But the Moody's have occupied a much more rarified space in my heart... but people like me aren't as common as all the historians, fans, reporters, documentarians, writers, radio dj's, and screaming girls that have kept those 4 eternally in the spotlight. And that is for better or for worse.

I am surprised to read that both Jethro Tull and the Moody Blues have been excluded from the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. The Moody Blues never got their due respect. At one point, they were occasionally the opening act for the Beatles and had to perform their songs as chants of "We want the Beatles" rang throughout the auditoriums. Too bad. Don't get me wrong. I think the Beatles take a backseat to nobody when it comes to song arrangement, singing, creativity and charisma. However, having said that, the Moody Blues were much more accomplished live musicians.
@60s70sVintageRock
@60s70sVintageRock 8 лет назад
+Bradley Allen The Moodies weren't so much accomplished when they opened for the Beatles in '65, as it was still the original pop band lineup with Denny Laine. But compared to the Beatles, they definitely became better musicians and concert performers after the lineup change... the 'core 7' era... Hayward, Lodge and Pinder (w/Mellotron!), '67-'72.

When Justin and crew took over the music changed and still today is something I will listen to anytime, anyplace. My parents listened to the music of the 30's and 40's and there are tunes I like there. I tell all the young people there is music you might like from any era, just give it a chance. The music now days does nothing for me but the young people love it.

Saw them in Louisville in 1974 I think it was. Just the excitement of knowing we were about to see greatness is still vivid as well as smoking funny cigarettes and holding lighters in the air! Aww to be young again in the 70’s

This song was recorded 2 months after I was born. I can't help but to feel a cruel joke of sorts has been played upon me...us! What has happened to the music of the world I was initially born into? I saw MB in concert at an outdoor venue the summer of 1999 & they were spectacular. I will cherish the memory forever and keep it as my witness that real music, the kind that speaks to our very souls, really does exist, if only in our memories (and 'wildest dreams') now. Peace and love to all, as we move forward into an uncertain future.

Still holds it own after 50 years! Quite astonishing when you think about that. In 1970 the idea of listening to a recording from 1920 would have been unthinkable and yet, despite its distinctly 60's/70's sound, this track could even be appreciated by today's youth contaminated as they are by the garbage foisted on them by the current era.
@matthewronsson

Well said, Mr Goblin60. This is the music that stands the test of time. The only thing that dates it at all is the recording technology
@randyacuna3248

@@matthewronsson technology dosen't make the music better, it's talent.
@matthewronsson
@matthewronsson 5 лет назад
@@randyacuna3248 Listen to the quality of an old 78 RPM LP and tell me it does not sound dated and low fidelity. This dates the music, and yes, better tech means BETTER reproduction of the sound. I never said it made musicians better-did I? Garbage in-garbage out and all. A great recording if crp is still crap. Hearing the nuances of master musicians vs muted sounds of primitive tech certainly makes for a far superior experience. However, the Beatles thought that the technology and innovations like multi-track recording tapes made their recordings better and truer to what they had imagined.
@randyacuna3248
@randyacuna3248 5 лет назад
@@matthewronsson sorry if you misunderstood me , if today the technology is better, why not throw music be better. I still feel the music of the 1960 with less technology is miles better than today's music, just my take.

Denny thought he was going to score big in a solo act. Sorry Charlie. They picked up Justin’s name because he was answering a want ad for Eric Bourdon and the Animals. Eric had already hired who he wanted so he gave all the extra resumés and applications to Ray Thomas, I believe, and the group brought Justin in and hired him……so, you never know what treasures you can find in the “want ads”.
