Moonglow--Jimmy Forrest 

One trademark of Jimmy Forrest's playing was his song choice. In the Jazz world, there are songs that are considered hip and there are songs that are thought to be played out--that is, songs that don't immediately conjure feelings of great improvisation. Maybe the songs themselves are not harmonically interesting, maybe they've just been played too much. Jimmy Forrest would frequently draw songs from the Discard Pile and then proceed to do magnificent things with such songs, almost as if to say to other musicians that his well of creativity, harmony, and improvisational composition is deeper than your well. Other tenor players were interested in blazing new paths, Jimmy Forrest would say there is gold just underneath the path that is well worn. This version of 'Moonglow' is just such a song. This is the last song we will take from Sit Down and Relax with Jimmy Forrest--everything on that CD is just as good as these two (Tin Tin Deo being the other). If you love great music, buy it. If you play tenor sax, it's a requirement.
