MoonShade Fab | Perfect Portable Awning. This is a really great way to have an awning without having to mount it to your vehicle. It's great for overlanding, van life, car camping or even just ground tent camping. Super versatile and there are tons of ways of mounting this to your car, a tree, where ever you want to mount it.

I’ve since changed to the magnets and I now prefer that method. The 4Runner roof side panel is actually magnetic even without a roof rack.

Yeah it’s nice but people online can really romanticize it. I’m not fully on the road and sometimes I don’t mention the downsides to this stuff but maybe I should. I mean my favorite videos to make are the winter camping videos and you can imagine there are some downsides to camping in negative degrees lol. But yeah it’s fun. And thanks for the feedback! Glad you liked the review!

Great review man! Didn't know anyone sold a temporary awning setup. Looks pretty useful if you don't need to use the awning every time you go wheeling so you don't have the carry the extra weight. Great video!👍

That was my thought as well. Sometimes I want to have it and sometimes I don’t. My old awning used to whistle so if I can avoid that running it all the time I’d gladly sacrifice like half a folded chair space in the interior when I’m headed to camp.

Currently running a Roam 6.5 on my forester, but seriously thinking about replacing that with this since I really like the idea of just being able to use it whatever I want on my car. I also really like all the clips on the underside of the awning as well, the lightranger would be perfect mounted to that center clip.

I love the way it looks and how it's built but what's the difference between this and an old fashion canopy?? When theyre bagged they're almost the same size? $400 for a tarp and a pole?
@louisperich6678

well done video. new subscriber. nice product, but $395? Overpriced by 2X IMO. Also setup seems extensive. A “ hub-style” design where it comes folded but fully assembled would be a hit, and a great alternative to a permanently installed swingout awning. I am becoming less and less tolerant of extended setups in my camping equipment LOL.

I use a 13' x 13' pop up shelter because I can just set it up on any side of the vehicle. The frame is a one person operation. It does take some time to set up but I can use "walls" to shelter even more. The biggest drawback is the weight. It is fairly heavy which is a good and a bad thing.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Год назад
That’s like those 4 pole tent things you can get at Walmart/tractor supply? I like the idea of those. Hadn’t really messed with them too much but they look sturdy. Used to use them tailgating in college but I’ve never owned one.
@2-old-Forthischet
@2-old-Forthischet Год назад
@@OXFOOT Costco had a really good sale on the 13' model by Coleman so took a chance and bought it. It was way cheaper than a bat wing! The square footage is a big plus and tall enough to even clear my full size van roof. Ironically, 10' foot walls fit it perfectly with velcro strips.

Just saw some of these at Rendezvous in the Ozarks last month. We had gusty winds (some up to 30ish mph). Saw a pop-up get destroyed and a Rhino Rack swingout awning on my friend's jeep snapped. Moonshade in the group next to us was unphased. I'd like one but the price is too steep for me at this time. Keeping an eye out for a deal, though.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Год назад
Yeah maybe they’ll have some big sales at some point soon. Best I could get was a $30 off code but it’s like $360 with the code. I’ve been super happy with it so maybe it’s something to consider for the future.

I have an Amazon special version that I've used and love it. I don't want to mount an awning on my Jeep so I figured I would give that a shot before buying the name brand version. I had upgraded telescoping poles from a previous tent and just got some better steaks. It's worked out fantastic!
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Год назад
Nice! Yeah I may eventually go back to a vehicle mounted awning but it’ll most certainly be a nicer one since my old one was cheap and all around pretty not great.

Hey great videos just found your channel and love the content I recently bought an iKamper Skycamp 2.0 but can’t decide if I should get the Outgear Solutions crossbars or a full length Tactical Solutions Roof Rack to mount it on. Other than the RTT I don’t have any use for a roof rack. Do the Outgear crossbars come off easily as I won’t have the RTT on during the winter? (about 5-6 months) Should I just pay the extra $500ish more for the Tactical Roof Rack Solutions rack ( I do like the look of a roof rack), or go with the crossbars? Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you

So the one question I have about this, are you able to use it with the wider side coming off of the vehicle?
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT 7 месяцев назад
I don’t see why not. The magnets and the suction cups attach to the poles so it could work both ways. It would be fairly narrow and long but if that’s all you need than I don’t see anything preventing it from that.

You could try a tarp and some poles to get a similar effect but for like $20. Won’t be the same thing but it’s probably fine.

While I prefer to run a permanently mounted awning I can see where these will be handy for someone who doesn't use one often enough to justify the cost of a quality awning or have a roof rack to mount to. I have my doubts that the fabric is as durable as the fabric as an Big Country 4x4 awning or even a new Rhino Rack/Oztent awning. Good video though this kind of innovation is good for the market, too many people are trying to reinvent the wheel.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Год назад
I had a permanently attached one and it took one time where the zipper failed and I had to parachord it shut while in the middle of a hailstorm for me to ditch permanent awnings. I think if I go with another one I’ll go with a hardshell or just cut it free from the vehicle if the storm is that bad.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Год назад
That being said I do love the kammock and the ikamper one. I’m sure my issues were with buying a used one that was already kind of low quality in the first place.

I guess that’s not too bad considering I have been setting up an ez up shelter at the motocross track and that takes at least 5 minutes. I have 2 Jeeps as well as my 4Runner and I like the fact the moon shade can be used on any of my rigs. Thanks, man!
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Год назад
@@poboyblues12 yeah I’d say the first time will take longer than 5, I’m sure. It’s really just putting on the magnet or suction cup (I don’t love the suction cup method) running the pole through the one end, attaching the cross poles and then the poles that hold it up. Guy lines may add or take away from the time, but I would recommend always using them. I’d say 3-4 minutes without the guy lines.

Since I don’t go to deserts, I use trees for shade. No cost and no set up time. In rain I have a tarp with rope I can attach between trees. I think I’m doing (quite) well, but then I see everyone with these expensive gadgets. And don’t even get me started on those rooftop tents.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Год назад
Yeah I’ve had large branches fall dangerously close to my tent over there years so I typically tend to avoid putting my tent anywhere near them. Granted most of that was growing up in the Appalachian mtns rather that where I live now. In Colorado in my experience it’s about 50/50 if you’ll have trees on the site. On the front range it’s more likely that you will have trees though.

$436 for an arb awning of the same size right now. Then it’s always stuck to the side of your vehicle all the time. I used to have an awning permanently mounted to my GFC and I was so happy to get it off my vehicle. Wind noise for one and the fact that it fades over time and looks brown just wasn’t for me.
