The sound (when heard from the interior) when the vehicle accelerates when changing 1 gear to the next, the transmission noises seem to remind me of similar experiences when cruising in the W116 S-Class car...so between the O 303 coach & W116 S-Class car, at least i can 'see' some common characteristics besides the rear lampset of the O 303 which looks same as on the W116 as well as the circular air vent on the dashboard which looks similar to those on W123 car.
@@cidertom5140 it's your taste man. I never compare a Mercedes V8 sound to other engines. If you're talking about Scania V8's open-pipe sound, I totally hate that sound. This Mercedes sound has mechanic perfection and pure power but still domesticated. Scania V8 sounds pure wilderness and too noisy. Not my taste.
Since OM 442A is used here, this O 303 must be among the last units made just around 1990...before the launch of the O 404 in 1991 ?? Most O 303..i would expect them to use OM 423 or lower & earlier engines instead ?
The V10 engines were only used until the facelift in the early 80ies. After the facelift only V6 and V8 engines were available - either natural aspirated or turbo charged, but without intercooler. I guess this bus is built in the late 80ies or early 90ies.
The 303 shown here was build since the end of ´83 (facelift-version). Since then there were only the OM 422 (280 PS) and the turbocharged OM 422 A (330 PS) available, later (since 1988) the OM 442 A (354 PS) and for a short time 366 PS - until the O 303 production in 1992 ended. PS: I told about the V8, there also were V6-engines available. The V10 (320 PS) was replaced in the buses from the OM 422 A (330 PS) in 1980, when the RHD-range was introduced.
Latest was the OM 442 A with 366 PS. I don´t know about the 381 PS-V8 in O 303. The earlier engines were the OM 442 A (354 PS) and OM 422 A (330 PS). The 381 PS-V8 was introduced in the O 404 in 1991, first as OM 402 LA (Euro 1, with less displacement, the torque was low, and real bad) and since ´94 there was the 381-PS OM 442 LA (Euro 2) available
@@stefankassbohrer2765 I do recall the O 303 with 381 BHP V8 was mentioned in an article in Mercedes-Benz Transport magazine from late 80's time, i actually read that magazine although i no longer can off-hand locate where is that now some 30 years later. I may have some old O 303 catalogues which may mention it too but it's likely 'buried' somewhere in my library which i've not maintained in years ?!
@@hseochin I am sure this engine was not delivered in the O 303. The Trucks were delivered with this 381 HP-engine since the mid-80ies, but not the buses. We had a bus company, and had at least 15-20 O 303 over all the years. But i never heard about the 381-HP V8 in this series. I know the 354-HP V8 came out in 1987/88, and the latest version was the 366-HP. I own some old catalogues, i will take a look til tommorrow. Interesting theme :-)
@@stefankassbohrer2765 Perhaps then the 381 BHP was limited edition version on special models of the O 303 which i recall had a small rectangular LED gauge with bar patterns of green to yellow to red colours which light up according to distance to vehicle/object in front or gear in-use maybe some early trial version of EPS etc. ? fitted above the centre tachometer.
