Speaking from a Christian perspective, I really like this show because it doesn't outright make fun of Christianity as a whole but makes fun of radical Christians that ostracize people that are caught being sinful dispite be sinful themselves, which is the opposite of what God commands us to do. In the other town for example, they describe it as sinful, dispite also being mainly Christian, only they are Catholics instead. In fact, most of the bad things that happen in the town are because of their radical beliefs. Another thing is that the atheist kids are just bullied for being of a different belief and if I remember correctly, Orel is even labeled one because he had a question on religion. A big part of it is also that they do not hold themselves to the standards they expect other people to hold themselves to. For example, Clay always misinforms Orel on bible stuff but doesn't take responsibility for being unclear on what he meant, then he physically abuses him for it. Also, he is an alcoholic, which is sinful (although simply drinking alcohol isn't) and he doesn't try to stop but is disgusted when other people live in sin. All of this relates to many beliefs some real churches believe and goes against the word of God. This is a good commentary on much of modern Christianity and can be enjoyed by both Christians and Non-Christians alike.

10000% agree. oddly enough this show brought me closer to god. you grow up with closeminded people on life stuff due to christian and it's hard, but orel growing up in that environment and turning out better but still keeping his faith in the end? that was huge to see. Like the episode he prays with meditation, there's so many interpretations of the bible and ways to worship and sometimes you have to find your own way. I left my church and started reading the bible independently and its much better bc nothing gets changed or taken out of context to fit a lesson thats being taught to you, the lesson is just whats in the book right there not being repurposed

It was this scene right here that sealed Orel's fate. The Christeins unwittingly gave Orel the idea of using "innocent blood", which led to Clay grounding him from church, which led to Orel going nuts and almost killing himself, which gave way to the hunting trip and eventually his dad Clay shooting him.

The Christines being the “Jews for Jesus” gave me a neat way to describe the Messianics. Also it’s ironic that they’re the Jews for JESUS when they’ve got a plate of shellfish and pork. The no eating meat with milk thing was purely Jewish hullabaloo, god never said not to do that. Also about the part where he said it was easier when there was no hell, Hell apparently doesn’t exist according to what the Jews and messianics would say. From what I’ve heard hell is a fake thing meant to scare people into believing in the Christian faith. I’m undecided about where I stand regarding faith I’m just saying.

When I read some of the laws and what have you from the Bible- the milk and meat thing was there. I remember thinking that made sense in a moral way of, “yeah don’t cook a baby in its own mothers milk” thing. Hell was described in one of the stories as a man that went there was calling out to heaven begging for a single drip of water. Idk. It’s been a while, but I recall those in particular before I kinda dropped out during the “offer my daughters and wife in place of these men” thing. Was in a bad mindset at the time and that really… really hit me like a truck.

@@RogueT-Rex8468 yeah, some of it is bizarre nonsense a la mixed fabrics being bad, and then some is just "slavery is okay and here are the rules for it"
@RogueT-Rex8468
@RogueT-Rex8468 Год назад
@@IdiotDoomSpiral69 in the context of what I read, I’m wondering if the term “slave” meant what we think it meant today. Because it sounds different in context. Kinda like paying off a debt thing that also ties to familial honor and the like, rather than beating down just because skin type most think about. Because it did say that when you have slaves you need to treat them like a friend or neighbor and to send them away once their time was done- as if it was a contract or something.
@t700e
@t700e Год назад
@@RogueT-Rex8468You’re right on the money. The slavery described in the Bible here was not race-based chattel slavery. It was servitude to a household to pay off a debt. Once that debt was paid the servant would be free to go.

Strange considering it's called Sheol. It's pretty similar to Hades from Ancient Greece. I wonder where did that misconception come from, that Judaism doesn't have hell.
