I used to run the 2box drumit5 kit, great setup, these days retained the brain only and triggered an acoustic kit with mesh heads. Good to see someone else mixing the two as well, my playing sucks though, yours is immense

I actually got a decent drum sound with just 3 mics...bass drum mic(not in the bass drum, but kinda in front of to the right of the right kick pedal) this way, with the right volume and maybe compression/EQ, you get the resonance from the snare, toms and bass drum...as for the stereo mics, use whatever works best for you...I used sm57's, to kinda offset the hi hat on the left..I placed the left microphone pretty much right above the bass drum and toms, and the right mic was to the left the floor toms...behind my back...just don't fart while playing...ha...but yeah... that's a minimalist approach, but, hey....if you got the extra mics, go for it...I also dig the Nirvana " In Utero" drum sound... Steve Albini...also did some Neurosis albums... good stuff...times of grace, sovereign,.... Nothing but fear is another good one from Morbid Angel...

What type of drums are those? I played for a long time and, had a big kit. I have been thinking about getting an electric kit because I can turn the sound low if I need to . I just tried an electric kit and, was blown away how the feel was (compared to the old electric kits) It was a cheap kit may 600 bucks but, felt pretty good. I would love to know what you play and if you have any thoughts.

@@benwhitedrums beater triggers? I have to look those up. I had the laser triggers for my Trick pedals and never even got to use them. I couldn't get used to the Tricks so I got rid of them.
